200's are very good, especially in wet slippy conditions.

I'm setting out 11 sections in three different groups, Mark Hicken is doing 14 in Dovedale, John Cowley is doing 5 in Western Wood, Club Chairman Mick Metcalfe is setting out four and Fred & John Braithwaite are doing the five in Saintbury. So expect a good mixture of challenges. Top Farm WILL be a lot easier this year for anyone who rode last year.... my mistake. But don't expect to be let off too easily in Dovedale and Western Wood! One important thing to note is that the sections in Hancocks have been cut out since the programme was printed, for some reason the owner has withdrawn permission, so an extra group has been put in at the end after Dovedale. Many of you will know this group called Warners King which is just a mile from the exit of Dovedale wood. For support crews wishing to meet their riders on route, please don't go to Hancocks. Use the Picnick area accross the road (at the top of Fish Hill) there is plenty of parking there and public toilets, you will be able to see your rider coming accross the road and direct them in for a break.

This post was about throwing the book away, the issues with observing rules and observer training are good ones as is the lack of communication but these problems aren't caused by the book. However, concerning protests; The observers decision is final and cannot be appealed against UNLESS it is a case of incorrectly applied rules. (That is when both you and the observer agree on what happened but can't agree with the score.) For example, you had a stationary dab and the observer awarded a five and you think it should be a two for a stationary dab. In this case you are within your right to proceed with an appeal as laid out in the appeals procedure.

Yes, ofcourse the rules need to be explained/written/understood correctly. There is room for improvement, but the original post suggested that we threw the rule book away.

But with better build quality hopefully.

Sorry I don't have an online list but if anyone wants to know a specific riders start number I can get it from the programme which has been sent to every competitor.

I see where you are coming from with this, but the organising body needs to have a set of rules for an event to take place otherwise it would just be a free for all. So with that in mind, competitors need to be made aware of the rules. This isn't just what marking system is being used, but many other things which we need to adhere to. eg items of safety. If only the clubs had a rule book, how would riders be expected to follow the rules which need prior consideration? Imagine people ringing up the secretary of an event asking about every rule..... 'do I need a helmet at you trial?' or 'can my six year old ride a Sherco 290?' etc etc. I think the ACU have a good system with the rule book. That doesn't mean that I agree with every rule, now that's another debate........

The Stratford Upon Avon Club are holding a round of the Novogar Clubmans Championship on Sunday 4th March starting from Downs Farm, Bourton on the Hill, Nr Moreton in Marsh. The 90 rider entry and includes, Graham Jarvis, Dan Thorpe, Gary Jenkins, Ross Danby, Sam Haslam, Chris Pearson, Lee sampson, Mark Hicken and John Cowley. Also riding are lady riders, Becky Cook, Katy Sunter and local riders Steve Harris, Ben Sprigg, Buster Reagan and Peter Archer. Remember the gun laws introduced a few years back? Organised clubs and licenced gun users had to hand in their (certain types of) weapons for disposal. Did this do anything to stop gun crime or did it just legislate against the already law abiding?

Poor Pete, I remember him buying a new Sherco in 2001, the same week foot and mouth stopped all trials for the rest of the year. On the other hand, I see Pete has an entry for the Scottish again this year, so not all his luck is bad.

You often see this strange phenomenon where this years model is faultless right up until next years model appears, then all of a sudden the old model was a piece of junk. Funny that.

Now you've just said the same as Jack, which was the issue I was pointing out. If the rules say a dab is a mistake (your words) then it follows that.... if the rules state it, then a stop, or a bounce, or anything else stated in the rules, is also a mistake. Out sport is governed by a set of rules, it isn't free-style no matter how much you think it should be.

I'm sorry to say that argument is fundamentaly flawed. If hopping etc is part of the sport, then it stands to reason that if hopping etc is against the rules, then it's not part of the sport.

The Terrys Cup, organised by the Redditch Club. That starts from Davis' Yard, and it's quite a way from the A44. The description fits the Colmore in 2004 starting from Lemington lakes. That's just a mile from the A44 but plainly not a pub.

You've got me here.... The Vale of Evesham started from Grove Quarry in 2004. The Colmore started from Lemington Lakes. The Leamington Victory Group trial starts from a pub, but miles away from the A44. The Vic Britain also starts from a pub but Clee hill isn't exactly on the A44 either.
