It'll still get fuel at idle but under throttle it'll die as it won't be able to get any more fuel as the blocked breather limits the flow.

I'm running Motorex in mine. The clutch does stick for 10 seconds or so if the bike sits unused for 2+ weeks. I change the oil every 2 trials or 3-4 weeks.

I have a 2010 Sherco 250 and my mate has just upgraded from a 2011 Sherco 250 to a new 2012 sherco 250. He has decided to get another 250 as he has found the power to be just right for his style of riding which is well above my skill level. He has chosen a Sherco again due to the excellent reliabillity, ease of servicing & parts and because the 250 shercos barely sniff the fuel - they're very economical for a trials bike. We ride regularly with a 2011 Ossa and both agree that for our style of riding as average clubman riders the Ossa has possibly too much power and most times in the section you're trying to control the power. On the 250s, although a bit snappy at first, you're not in any danger of getting thrown from the bike due to power.

I think that stop should be allowed, but if you foot while stationary then you've got 5 points.

Has Bou ever ridden a no-stop trial?

Also I should mention that a fortnight ago, at the start of the day a competitors 2010 sherco 125 wouldn't start. We tried everything but the solution was to loosen and almost remove the bottom bolt of the carburetter as it was full of water due to an overly enthusiastic bike wash the day before. Water poured from the bottom hole and after it was tightened the bike ran fine all day.

When I bought my 2010 Sherco I was thoroughly informed by the dealer and several others that the fuel tank breather hose can get pinched and prevent fuel flow. When you take off the rear guard you'll find the hose coming out of the top of the fuel tank and leading down to exit near the rear shock. I have never had this problem but I don't remove my rear guard much. As I said, the dealer really made it an issue of it to me so I would say its fairly common.

Try and take them for a ride as one could be horrible to ride and you might not get on with it. I love my sherco 250 although it's a bit snappy with its power. Its also very light to steer and maneuver.
My mates Ossa 280 is more gentle lower down in the revs and it's suspension is superb but I can't get on with it's clutch.
I recently rode a 2010 Gas Gas 300 and it was very doughy and soft in the power, I found it nice, but compared to my 250 it felt like there was less "instant" power and it came on softer and smoother. It felt heavier in the front but more stable than my sherco.
One thing is for sure, Sherco's do seem to have one of the lightest and nicest clutches around, I haven't found anything that's anywhere near as nice as the sherco clutches.

Lol thanks guys. I was just out on the bike getting ready for next year. I have the perfect back yard so it's easy for me to just hop on and ride whenever I want. I would say that I was riding stuff well above my skill level, you know, trying to push myself to improve. This is the first time I've broken a bone, I turned 30 last week and due to lactose intolerence I have been off dairy for the last 6 months so that may have something to do with it too. I'll post up a photo of my arm and the ledge later tonight.

On Saturday I decided to go for a quick ride in my backyard to keep my skills improving. I have been trying to get 30-45 mins on the bike everyday or two.
I was riding around for about 30 mins and I went up a 1.5 metre almost vertical step-up around a tree and then back down. I did it 2-3 times no problems then did a few other things then back to the step up. I went up and around the tree fine then as I was coming down very slowly I got my line wrong, the front wheel tapped a little rock and flicked me over the bars. I fell 1.5 metres and instinctively put my hands out superman style. Quite annoyed with myself I got up, picked up the bike and realized that my right wrist was in the shape of an "s". I tried to start the bike but was flooded and wouldn't start. Any way I had to walk 200 metres back up the hill and go hospital to get my wrist stretched and reset. It's broken and shattered real nice. I'll probably have to go under the knife in the next few days. So it looks like I'm out for 3 months.
So anyway this is the worst injury due to trials I have ever seen. Has anyone else done any major damage to themselves? My biggest concern is when I get back on my bike next year I'll be a super wuss. I guess I'll take it real easy.
And yes, the bike is unscratched. Not a mark on her my mate rode it up to the house and commented how tough the bike is. Maybe I'm getting old now

Excellent. The bike sounds different. Can't wait to see it in the flesh

So you're stuck on the side of a hill and have stalled the engine. It's very steep. You try to hold the bike stationary with just the front brake while you kickstart it but the front can't find grip and you start to slide backwards... Oh wait that's right, i've got a left hand kickstart - i'll just put my foot on the rear brake while i kick the bike over with my left foot. Easy!
This was drilled into me last month by a Brisbane Beta owner who is annoyed his new 4 stroke Beta has a 'normal' right side kickstart. He misses his left side kickstarter.
If i could afford a new Evo it wouldn't bother me.

Thanks for the info! Greatly appreciated! This is my backyard - perfect for trials but very hilly so it might sap the battery power

I will be buying my 5y/o an Oset in the next month or two. I'll get some spare batteries and hopefully it can be used in mini bike class for comps and be ridden all day long. If we're doing a 2 day event and i need to charge them i'll either think about a generator or expand my camper trailer's current solar setup.
I can see in a few years when my little one wants or needs to advance to a full size bike that it quite possibly won't be a petrol bike. There's now nothing to stop my 5 year old getting an electric Gas Gas or Scorpa in 5-10 years time when it's time for his first full size bike. And to think that within 12 months time there will probably be secondhand electric trials bikes hitting the market.
I like to try and get on my bike for 30-60 minutes every day or two to keep fitness up and to improve skills. I will seriously be thinking about getting an electric Gas/Scorpa as a second bike to train on. Sure it won't be the same as my petrol bike but the only reason i don't get on my bike EVERY day is to respect my neighbours. I have several acres and even with that much land i have to think about my neighbours with my Sherco.
I have to say that this is a golden age for trials. When i got out of trials back in 1998 there were 2-3 brands available and it was either 2 stroke or nothing else. Now there's 7-8 brands and a choice of 2 stroke, 4 stroke or electric. It's absolutely brilliant.

I use those S3 alloy bar ends and these S3 clamp handgrips:
They're very very soft and grippy and you don't need wire and such.

That would be a negative on that one. All were wet wet wet sections. I only got one leech, but he still left blood all over my riding pants... The weather was great apart from the massive thunderstorm that arrived just as we were pulling down the sections about 1klm from the campsite which was half packed away and out in the open. It was an experience but i'd do it all again in a heartbeat

Hey guys,
here's the latest instalment from my video cameras.
This trial was held about 3 weeks ago at SQTA's (Southern Queensland Trials Association) new Kyogle property. What an excellent playground! The club has as usual outdone themselves, can't wait to go back there! This video is a bit longer than normal as there's some extra stuff at the end. Enjoy!
