You obviously know sfa about 4rt's, there's absolutely nothing standard about that exhaust system.
  4. Congrats to Grimbo, really pleased he's kicking butt and earning a proper wage too (I hope). He was my favourite rider in trials, never had the best of anything, but just got on with it and got some fantastic results and deserveredly so. I remember when he snapped his Cruciate ligament at Hawstone park wtc, he was in extreme pain (anyone who has snapped it will know what it's like) he put a knee brace on and kept going. I was at the SSDT when he won It for the final time in 2006, really deserved it. I think he'd be a worthy candidate for an MBE with what he's achieved. Really nice guy and deserves to get the glory of his success.
  5. Oh dear, thought it might be quite good, but Chris Evans !!! I thought it was going to be the all new TG. All they did was carry on with the old format with nothing new, or better than before, in fact some of it was cringeworthy. I think clarkson and co will not be too worried.

    1989 Honda Rtl250

Congrats joe, you finally managed to get one.
  7. I don't know the exact original Honda colours, but I don't think you'd go far wrong using RS paint colours from a 1985 Honda VF 1000 R, which looked identical from memory. http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-gb/colours.php#makeid=64&modelid=2061&prodyear=1985&colourscheme=5546 Which are: Shasta White (Bike Colour) Fighting Red (Bike Colour) Candy Aleutian Blue (Bike Colour)
  8. Hi, A good friend of mine got a batch made up, but I think there all gone now. You can buy other versions from h&d and other we'll known 4rt parts sellers.
  9. Great job joe ?? Not sure about the cover tbh, was think of sorting a silver carbon skin (very thin), that is vacuum moulded over the face and then remove it and use high temp cloth to line the edges so there's a very thin gap and then no wear marks either, hopefully. Could then spray it flat silver and then it'll protect the whole outside face and look almost like its original (like the covers Mitani do for terminogni silencers for 4rt's, see pic). It would also solve the heat problem for boots/shin area I'm not planning on using the new one straight away, so the above is just idea at the moment.
  10. 2015, Dougie Lampkin........I think you'll find a win means quite a lot to the owner of Vertigo and gives quite a bit of creditability to the brand.
  11. Doesn't mean much to Vertigo then!!!
  12. Toni Gorgot, vesty, Rathnell and Amos, all on Montesa's, but never a Honda and I think only Dibs win was on a Montesa whilst in the fully Honda owned period.
  13. Am I right in saying, the mighty Honda, have never won the SSDT and if so, why, for all the money they spend on motorcycle sport, have they not tried again and again, until they succeeded? It's the most desirable trophy of all, as a manufacture, in the world of Trials and yet, Honda, or even Montesa, do not bother. As they brand the 4rt in Japan as a Honda RTL and obviously Montesa everywhere else, they could field two teams to enter the SSDT and would benefit from either Honda or Montesa winning, although surely Honda must really want a win, to join Yamaha on the list of winners on the trophy. Might Mr Bou have a chance in the near future to add his name to the the winners list, there's not much else for him to win (except the Scott).
  14. Thanks for persisting to get them right, you should be proud of what you've managed to achieve :0)
  15. Saw some superb Honda trials bikes yesterday at Telford, met some really nice interesting and talented people, thanks ?? (Click on the pics for full pic)
  16. Great to meet you Joe, hats off to you for your superb effort, with this project ??
  17. Engine next ? Please ??
  18. One thing I've learnt from Francks frame build, is how complex the RTL frame is compared to a more traditional bike frames, nothing appears to be "off the shelf", oval frame rails etc etc. The welding on the later bikes wasn't it's best feature, but I guess they weren't put together with a much care and passion.
  19. I definitely think lacquer is not a good idea, the RTL silencers get very hot. To be honest Joe, to save yourself time and money, get some small (say 100mm x 100mm) pieces of the alloy that's actually used/ to be used for the other silencers. Aqua blast one, highly polish one and lightly polish the other, if you did two of each type, you could then have do one set in clear anodising and the other set in silver anodising. Then you'd be able to compare which is the closest match to the original. Concerning the prototype, you'd be best off getting that dipped to remove the anodising, so you can test the final chosen test sample on that. Personally, I'd don't think a highly polished finish will look right once anodised and I can't imagine Aqua blasting was around in 1985. But I do know that when I was refurbing my original, the anodising was very difficult to remove (I couldn't get it dipped, as it had been used) and appeared to be silver in colour. I think, as you said Joe, you've come this far, a little more time and research to get it right, will be worth it.
  20. Or maybe aqua blasting, prior to anodising, which gives the part a bright finish ? I think they use a sealant after anodising (rather than lacquer). I had some rims anodised and they came out satin. It does depend on the finish of the part, but if it's polished aggressively, you'll loose the detail in the welding etc. I must say a big thanks to you joe, for doing this,
  21. It's all in the detail :0)…|, forget Picasso, Monet or Van Gogh, this is art to me.
  22. Can't think what this part is Franck ?
  23. You can get a heavier rear spring for the rear shock and you can also get a heavier fork Spring too. If you search, you will find all the info you require about setting up your bike
  24. Most folk expect everything to be there, for them to use, they have no concept of how it's all there for them, what's involved, how difficult it is to organise etc, etc, as long as they can turn up and ride, thats all they're worried about. Fact is, one day, they'll turn up and it won't be there for them anymore ........ Unless more people get involved and help !!! It doesn't matter what you do, how much or how little you do, some help is better than none. Most riders are quick to moan, when something is not to their liking, but have no interest in getting involved. Trials is only here, because people give up their time to organise, administer, observe etc, etc.
