  1. Today on my 280,which i'm rebuilding, took the crankshaft to Grampian Motors in Liverpool along with the BE bearing, rod and pin kit . Bruce walks out,i gives him the rod kit, crank and a sheet of paper with all the bike details etc which he gives me back." I'll do it now while you wait"! To a look of astounding perplexity and the quote from me of "what"? And with that he shot off and returned in fifteen minutes job done. Talk about good service, and that's why i always deal with them, because they are good!
  2. Hey ship you might want to try getting this one in too .... slower than a Mexican village......Sorry any Mexicans reading this .

    Linkage

Use branded quality stuff. Chevron do aircraft and boat grease brill stuff , iv'e used that but i just use Castrol LM 2 at £12 a tube . Don't use cheap **** on the linkage assembly.
  4. The bike is used, and is a 2013 model ,and yes it will be getting the treatment before it turns a wheel out side of our place .Over the moon can't explain how that itch is getting scratched that's inside . I sat last night gibbering to my self on how engineer's make a thing of eye pleasing beauty like that (pleasing music is now playing in the back ground in my head) when in walks my missus and say's "who are you talking to"? The guy i bought it from was 280 lbs ( 127.006 kg ) and 6 ft 5" (1.9558 mt) and had hands like shovels . If in the future any one finds a bike or needs a car go and see Brad from Kenmure car sales . A one man band . I'll say now buy it because the guy is bob on.Not an engineer by any stretch of the imagination ,but he's honest and he don't talk pissh .
  5. Hey ship it's actually colder here than it was in the North North Sea, although the reverse vertical snow we got had to be seen to be believed ( the wind was so hard it was blowing it back up to the sky). Every where is flooded to hell but in Dumbarton today it was sunny!Still colder than a witches tit though.
  6. Aaaahumm! Just got back from the shores of sunny Dumbarton in Scotland . For our unacquainted American and in deed Continental viewers it's by the side of the river Clyde near Loch Lomand. Returned with this little jem. I would like to thank the Tax man for screwing me for nearly 14 months , and the rebate i got, which has enabled me to buy this bike . SOOOOO THANK YOU ! To day is GasGas day, YIPEEE! And yes it's in the house. Hey Coops and Guys a very happy new year to you both !

    Weight

Hey chris west are you planning on getting shut of some wieght from your bike or are you just enquiring?
  8. Hey you two do you know that the U.K is getting an upgraded status on the weather front ! The rainy seasons been made even longer ! Wish we still needed to make a wood fire ,it's the one thing i miss every day ,getting up chopping and making a fire. Input equals reward .
  9. Err you forgot "does this suit me love"? "Errr yep darling it does" Sorry couldn't resist ! Love and kisses Shyt ed.
  10. Been here in the North sea all Christmas and New year . No trial (only by rig food any how) looked at pictures of bikes and the raciept for the latest edition to the GASGAS clan going to my work shop and hope there's no severe weather when i get home . Choppers eve today though . Aberdeen tomorrow ! Happy new year Zippy and Mr Neutron .
  11. Happy new year ship ! Ah yes the simple ideas are the best.
  12. Two more things i'd like to jib in with. I raced two stroke racing bikes up to a few years ago . Depending on the weather, i ran between 18 and 28:1 and that was with A747 . 100% reliabillity and bizarly there was a coating residue on all the componants on stripdown but never got that prior to switching over to said brand. The second thing is the oil provides ring seal as well as other atributes. .
  13. You can buy a spacer kit from gasgas uk at a small cost and the tube comes with it . So Knock the spacer tube down , once required space is there get the bearing out easy . Ok your spending a little cash, but saves on time messing around .If your going to the effort of doing the bearings ,do the lot .
  14. Try the add section at the back of Decembers either Motorcycle Mechanics or Practical sports bikes (the edition with the Ducati 916 on the front cover) and there's a guy selling secondhand TY and DT Workshop manuals. They're as good as anything else available.Good luck with your venture. Ted.
  15. Or even just let bikes(and cars) actually warm up before you use them.Totally agree with the last comment.
  16. Yes . Learned that lesson age 17 after my brand new RD 250 E broke down on the way home from picking it up from the bike shop . Supposed to have had PDI (at a cost of £17) and the plug's hadn't been set . If the gaps to wide the spark can't ignite the fuel because it's smothering the electrode .
  17. expat ,there maybe another potential problem though.Maybe not, but you have to think your on a bike at 14 years old ish and the cylinder maybe getting worn . How many times has that piston stroked ? You get where i'm coming from . If it's not leaking and functioning ok, my self i would leave it alone . I had this and came to the same conclusion as iv'e said . When needed ,i'll be biting the bullet and buying the £60+ cylinder or finding somthing else that will work. I have a 280 txt edition 2000 and to get the cylinder off is a piece of cake. Undo the two screws on the black wear covers on the frame, slacken the two allen bolts which go through to the frame . Remove the brake pedal, remove the banjo bolt ,remove the feed line, remove the slackend allen bolts , there you go . Not that you needed to be told that but just passing on expierience if you want it. Best regards Ted.

    My Project

Take my hat off to you pal . I think along the same lines. Shyted.
  19. Patience and perseverence . Fill the cylinder by bench bleeding first .It takes minutes. You'll lose fluid sure enough, but mount it and pour more in. Before you connect the brake line operate the piston with a flat round punch untill you get fluid.Connect the hose at the cylinder, disconnect at the caliper untill you get fluid draining through of it's own accord . Undo bleed nipple, connect brake hose, keep topping the fluid up . Wait to see if fluid will come through of it's own accord at the bleed nipple. If it don't ,then bleed on.Wash fluid off with soapy water. If that method don't work resort to turkey and brussel sprout curry! Merry Christmas!
  20. Only a little build up on the cases at the bottom end.Although there is some on the inlet tract and the upper area of the cases near the oil way.Just think about all those collectors who never run there bikes for ages. Never had a Jap bike do this but never had a 14 year old Jap 2 stroke trials bike .
  21. Here's the hand full of pictures i've been threatening to post of the 280s motor. So as you can see , the crank case has marks on it. I've come to the conclusion that the mains have residue on them from a combination of little use, left standing for 2 years by it's previous owner, and the use of poor quality2 stroke oil. Only the little end had any noticable play.
  22. So today with my GasGas , it got a new baby , a 2013 250 Pro at a good price .Pick it up after i get home on the 7th(ISH) It's second hand and the prior owner has bought a 2014 Montesa.
  23. I think it could be a mixture of several things. When i bought this bike it had ,on the whole, had been stood for two years. Secondly i only saw no make scooter 2 stroke oil in the guys garage ,although no scooter . But,the bike has been 100% reliable and i paid £1100 for it so i wasn't going to dig so deep at the time i bought . How's the 280 guys? Done any demolition work on it yet? Check out the pic's i will put on "what did you do to your GAS GAS today", bit of the forum tomorrow evening.
  24. Just got back to work . Delay with flight out of the shetlands after take off.The chopper had a malfunction. Interesting to see that the main bearings on the bike are Koyo.Thought they might have been european.Another glimse and they're made in the UK! Will put pictures up tomorrow night . Sending the case's to Triple S in Bingley for painting and the crank is off to Grampian motors for new pin,big end and rod. So today i have a GasGas Question , if you had the cash would you buy a 2014 bike, new. One you've seen for sale ,a 2012 model or a 2010 that needs a little TLC. Think before you answer lad's and lasses. Iv'e put the idea of a Beta out of my head . The main reason ,pathetic i know ,but why am i seeing plenty of 2013 Betas for sale in mint condition and no 2013 Gassers and Lampkin jumped ship from Beta to GasGas . Oh Yes MERRY CHRISTMAS to the lot of you wether you like it or not and i hope you stay in good health! A really Christmasy Shyted
  25. Hi trials brothers .Wonder how often this question gets asked? Here's my 2 bob's worth! 1 Use you head.Keep a diary of how your bike runs(2 stroke)on what day and weather conditions, what oil ,where your fuel came from and what grade.2 Don't expect to much of a bike if you don't maintain thing's as you should.3.Listen to sound advice and get the basics correct. O.K here's a picture of one of the main bearings from my 14 year old GasGas Edition 280 TXT. This motor has never been apart.I base that statement on experience. The reason i stripped it was routine maintenance &more than normal vibration. The bike get's run on Castrol 2 stroke racing oil @ 65-80:1 depending on weather and conditions, the air fuel ratio altered accordingly. Iv'e had 2 baffle fires running at 80:1 whilst hammering it up hill for extended throttle openings.Thing is though never had a seizure. Look at the deposits on the bearing. There was no significant amount of play considering their age,but they started to get noisy and vibration was coming through the bars whilst riding. Make your own mind up with the info.
