  1. Thank's for the response there.Alexlowe, It was reading your post that prompted me to look at Acklams. The 4 rt is just sitting there. It has done since my step dad died end of August as iv'e been helping my old queen get sorted out when i'm home .Yes i do fancy changing ,but not because it's a crap bike. It's me who has difficulty riding it . So after the life story , i fancy either the 200 Beta , jotagas 250 or at a push the GasGas TXT 250 .In that order. And that's quite a large slice of humle pie to swallow !
  2. Looking at a new 200 Beta and can only find one at Acklams. Their advert says that it's the last one for 2015.That true then? Not spoke to them as i'm away from home just now. can't contact them ,can't cvall mobile phones from here.
  3. Agreed on the above too . Just stay out of your pocket for now.
  4. Probably good advice .But what about the lock nut coming off? That wasn't to good . I read early on in your post about your frustration ,trust me even my brand new Montesa has a rubbish clutch . My self , i think it's plain wrong how the people who make and sell the bikes just dont seem to give two hoot's with thier products and the like's of us just have to put up with it financialy and the frustration it causes. Several people have said about letting the bike warm up. That's absolutely sound advice . You probably know this already, but my experience with GasGas is they don't grease anything either from new.So whip the spindles out and grease them at the first chance you get.Save yourself some grief later. Best of luck with the bike. Ted.
  5. Try talking to Stan Stephens tuning . He Might be able to re machine the head to accept a modified combustion chamber, providing theres enough to work with .It's worth a call even if he says no as he may offer an alternative solution. I'm speaking from experience . Putting a base gasket on might work as sugested above . Then again it may alter the port timing to much. Talk to Stan before you spend anything. What that man doesn't know about two strokes ain't worth knowing.
  6. Agree with the clutch mod it made a big difference to my 280. So does stripping the pack down, cleaning and rebuilding . Not sugesting you do the latter and i know little to do with the 80. Will GasGas not give you any help?
  7. This is an interesting subject.I have to be honest here , i will help put flags out and collect them and i'll observe for nothing , but to organise an event and be on a commitee , oh no thank's . So thank you to any level of organizers .

    Vertigo Launch

For fook's sake! Iv'e got a bloody sweat on after reading this pisch.Realize the point to some of it but hell fire your all grown blokes or lasses! Has any one got a good image to post here .I can't get any You tube on my work post computor and no WiFi and i'm not home for a week and some day's . the pictures on the internet arn't really detailed All this guff and no propper pics just loads of cack. The pictures in BIKE magazine are quite good but don't really show any detail and the launch ones arn't much better. Vertig vertigo vertigo vertigo vertigo . Think iv'e got the name in more than any post here , somone please just post a pic that i don't have to go into to view if they have one otherwise i'll have to wait till i'm home. Vertigo vertigo . Bet the Vertigo trials bike is technical extasy .
  9. Is it me or would a bike rack not be twice as good? To me that's asking for trouble espcially with the dopy gets driving around now.
  10. Xlite all the way for me too . Often thought when using air to get a trials tyre on what it would be like nipping your scrote when the tyre bangs on the rim. Bet that would really make your eye's water !
  11. Have a good look through some of the pages and find " show us your GasGas ". Theres a lad from the state's with a 225 convertion ,a yellow one with an FMF silencer on . He rates that bike very well. My self i think that would be a good bike you've found there and will have no problem's with performance at all . It will be a piece of p*** to ride . If i found that i wouldn't hesitate . The 125 can be a devistating tool in the right hands too. I watched last years youth champ on he's at Backcowm quarry ,bloody unbelievable what he could do with it.Wow! Honest pal you will shock yourself with how good either of the GasGas bikes are .They make a total mockery of riding, just set it up correctly with the help of those who know and you wont look back . DO IT YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO. Best of luck Ted.

    4Rt Clutch

Hi Dave ,havent rode the Mont at all since September as my step dad died after an horrendouse illness , so been keeping my old queen company untill she get's back on her feet . The Mont's a great bike and i like to ride it but prefere compeeting on the GasGas. I found it easier to ride than the Mont for me being an 11st 7 lbs weakling with a steel pin in the shoulder. The quallity is brill. See me in December at the club night ? Not without a very powerful telescope you wont ,i'm in the central North sea at my work desk waiting to get a go of the shower . So the might bit is deffinately correct As for the clutch on the bike well it really is pisch and the best oils i found were GRO and Putoline Nano . Incedently going to get the final bit's for the GasGas 280 when i'm off this time . See about finding a secondhand Ohlins shock for the rear too. Told you it was a good and straight bike that, aint the suspension brill ! A belated merry Christmas and happy new year to you also. Dave.

    Reliability

Oh no ! Have to throw some petrol on the bonnfire here.Mmmm , Reliabillity . GasGas quallity is not so hot,but it's better than some . I was absolutly sick when i bought a TXT 250 last year and at 8 month old just turned out to be poor , the pathetic problems i got with it made me get rid. It was straight and all the problems put right when i sold it . Bought a 2014 4RT . This is where i eat a large slice of humble pie . I can't ride the 4rt . My slight physique has a lot to do with it as i see lads who are a good lump bigger than me throw them around.Good solid quallity. The clutch is bloody crap. Before anyone pipes up ,ive experimented with every oil on the market. It's the plates. So after waffling for a minute , the GasGas was brill to ride ! I was instantly at home on it and the suspension was ace. I could use it and spent most of the time on the back wheel when the bike was all in one piece. I think that the modern GasGas is a propper comp bike and realistically, besides normal maintenance , need's a total rebuild / inspection once a season with hard use and maybe every other with moderate use. There's so little gearbox oil in bikes now it's getting to be a joke. I'm saying prevention is better than cure, and the toss up is light weight and fragile (reliabillity problems) or quallity and heavy weight Happy new year to every one . Ted .

    The Doctor

What manufacturer has Cal Crutchlow gone to this season, the season where Rossi has finished 2nd in the world championship . Oh yes ,he's gone to Honda . Wonder why that is then ? probably couldn't take the recalcitrantness any longer at Ducati !
  15. Just got one thing to say to the doubters , 2nd in the world championship so maybe Valentino isn't ready to drop the penny .
  16. Had a full Termi system on for 9 month with no problems with the pipe . The only problem i have had was when i dropped the bike and fell forward and permanently branded the inside of my leg ,that hurt, but pipe undamaged!
  17. Nice bike guy's , enjoy it . Ted.
  18. Before you dash out and spend your cash ,check the plug gap, often the most basic overlooked thing with 2 stroke's and it doe's matter , and they don't come pre set as the belief goes. They've come off a production line and been handled and thrown about by every one who's touched them. My TXT 250 started second kick from cold and alway's when hot.
  19. Got to add something here. What level are you riding at ? Can you use the suspension to it's maximum effect ? If you can't justify it don't do it ,unless you just want to and there's nowt wrong with that . As far as resale goes some people want to offer £4100 for a mint 2014 bike thats been out 7 times and not neglected. If your bothered about re sale buy second hand because no matter what , your going to lose a grand to fifteen hundred quid. A dealer has a 2014 standard one for sale on the bikes for sale bit on here at £4700 ish and he will be making proffit there so what did he pay for it ? That will put you in the ball park .
  20. There's springs in both legs just one side has a damper too , and the adjustment is for high speed damping only on the damping side . Have you removed the seal collars or as it reads just drained the oil.The reason i ask is because one of the bushes was scored badly on mine when i pulled the tube out so replaced the set . If you want the oil level give Kev a mail at gas gas uk if you haven't found it on trials parts USA . Remember to go for a Metric measurement as American IMP and UK IMP are different. You can also get an exploded printable parts fiche from GasGas UK's web site right now which will give you some help . Ted.

    Blistering Paint

Just an idea in passing when i saw this. Make a proper one from metal . Get it from a scrap yard from the exhaust passage on most cars , the semi corrugated tin stuff ,you can cut it with strong scissors . Fashion it and fix it with jubilee clips if there's space. Or fix a flat deflector with some sort of insulator to the back of the panel. Just an idea sorry if it's no use.

    The Doctor

Stoner was a phenomenon without a doubt. Was . Rossi still is one . His age is no big deal to me and i'm not making a big deal of it . It's Marquez now , a great rider ,another phenomenon ,same as Lorenzo DULL! DULL DULL DULL DULL NOTHING ABOUT THEM BORING DULL! SHADOW MEN ! DULLER THAN DULL ! No charisma . That's why i like Rossi .
  23. Hi fish06. This is from experience . First off you are right not to name any one .If thing's get nasty you could influence the out come by doing so. You have right's!Despite what people think even if you buy new , second hand or old , you are being sold a product by a VAT paying outlet. If the advert says anything like "Excellent condition" "Like new" "Perfect in every way" "Mint" ( you get the jist) then you have a leg to stand on. Even if the add don't say those thing's you have consumer right's for 90 day's on a product's that isn't new.Call him and talk,go and see him . Be firm don't threaten . If he try's to give you the bike back , don't accept it unless it's fit to use and you know the problem's have been resolved. If there's no joy seek legal advise and let him know by letter (sent recorded delivery ) what you are going to do . Don't be fobbed off.Don't argue ,don't threaten, make sure in no uncertain way he know's what you are going to do if the problem isn't resolved. Keep us posted. Ted.

    The Doctor

Ha ! 35 year old giving young bloke's a good run for their money on a bike giving away several horse power to the Honda's,in a game and level where those figures matter. Just been reading through some of the comments in this post. Esspecially about the Ducati that Stoner did so well on in his first proper season. My self ,i don't think for one moment that Rossi went out on the same bike as Stoner had in that season.Remember ,development take's place season to season .How many times did Stoner fall off or get a podium before his layoff with illness. Then, why did he go to Honda if the Ducati was that brilliant ? How many times has the Ducati been on the Podium since if it's that good? Bet if you asked Cal Crutchlow to be truthful how he felt about the Bike to ride he would rather have the Yamaha package, and it's the cash and a factory ride that took him there.Nothing wrong with that, but myself i think the whole layout of the bike isn't the same combination as Honda and Yamaha, otherwise it would be on the podium week in and out. Aprilia will be the telling point maybe ,at the end of it ,i'm still a Rossi fan.
