    Gas Gas Future?

100% true .100% agree. I see more enduro bikes on the scene and for as many new trials riders come older ones seem to go.Gasgas exposure out side of off road ,nill. Honda ,ads on TV, bill boards MOTO GP ,F1.Isn't it funny though no bill boards of Tony Bou. It's a tough nut to crack.
  2. For last year and this year so far. Sale of old bike £3000 Well here goes then. 1 New Montesa £5700. 1 complete Termignoni pipe and bit's £1000 Tyres that let it grip £160 The process of getting weight off the bike £1000 Kick start pawl .Still arguing with Honda about that one. Variouse gearbox oils £180. Engine oil and filters,'o' rings and copper washers £160 but bought a 5 ltr castrol engine oil at discount . Fork oil £ 22.00 High temp DOT 4 £14 S/h Parts £180 S/h Bike rack £50 S/h boots £80 S/h trials coat £20 Diesel don't know really Petrol the same Licence ACU £10.00 new membership needed. Member ships £45 Clothing £80. Time on bike 30hrs There's a very good reason for that . Vehicle is the family car derived Van which i bought in 2012 I also have my old trusty TXT280 £1100. The cost has been worth it no matter what My ex wife cost me £ 87000 and as if that wasn't enough she took my Whippet dog ,Triumph Motorcycles mug and the toilet paper (No joke) !!! So the Montesa was a bargain eh ! Hello Biff .
  3. Helicopterman your bike looks brill ! The addict says he uses putoline Nano.Think he meant in the gearbox. Think you can get HTX from BVM . I deffinately agree with the addict on the Nano. However GRO gear box oil is as good(not better) than Nano . If you change Nano as often as GRO it would be dearer ,but the whole point of the Nano is it lasts longer. Myself ,and i'm no expert , i think the Gro is better for the money than HTX and the HTX is similar price as Putoline from memory . Iv'e tried them all and i'm running the GRO at the moment but always have the Putoline there . Yep your bike looks really good ,enjoy it.
  4. Yep that's true , i thought grey was the new blue. But to keep to the thread, rusty make sure you ride a bike thats been well and truley run in as the suspension on the standard model from new is unyealding to say the least when new, and you wouldn't have a clear picture of what they are capable of. If you go to Backcowm quarry , you can go on mine but as i work away and my home coming is subject to the weather, getting a satisfactory meet could be a bit difficult. None the less the offers there .

    4Rt Clutch

Aye and for me guy's that's what i want to do get rid of weight . I have a few questions guys i will PM you .
  6. Do you know who Ron Williams is ? i'll tell you if you don't . He owns MAXTON suspension. I talked to Ron and his step son Paul over dinner at the TT about the mounting method of the back shock on the Honda Hornet and the then current method of the shock mounting on the CBR 600 .They mount the same as the REV 3 and some other bikes. We talked about improving the rear shock and he explained there was only so far you can go compared to levers Rons words were " it's a crude but effective way of mounting a mono shock " . Seeing he's had several teams on the podium as a result of chassis and suspension design i recon he knows exactly what he's on about. It's true as you say that the lever alter the lever ratio. Oh yes Suzuki, call the dog bones, lever links, whatever , cushion levers by the way . Its in the Factory manual for the RGV 250 M which i'm looking at right now . They call them that because they help smooth out the impact action No one says it's no good . I didn't say it's no good .If any of you like it fine ,i like it ,i can't tell the difference on a trials bike , Can you ? Maybe Eddie can as as far as i know he's the only proffessional rider here . But if there's one thing ,if utilising a lever creates more friction which it might do ,it's so miniscule that the bennifit of levers outwieghs the negative effect and i would say that's why they use leverage as it lessens effort . Not having a slant there but i wouldn't have said a thing if i was second guessing .

    4Rt Clutch

Is that in the older or new bike guys ? My 260 is much better to ride now . Such a small thing has made a big difference . Two week's ago i would have traded it in but after a week Saturday ago i'll be sticking with the Mont and continue getting the weight off so it's easier to use . Still hacked off about the kick start pawl though .

    4Rt Clutch

Not that this is of massive interest but the clutch is fixed on my Mont. It was indeed the fluid . Did six hrs last weekend without a hitch So have the MOTUL GP DOT 4 in the clutch system that has a far higher fade point and it has worked without buying any plates or anything. Anyone got ally plates in theyre bike then?
  9. Didn't take long mr helicopter did it , That looks nice ,now go to msport Montesa and let the party begin !
  10. Eddie , i think he means the technology is the same not the action of the units. As in it directly transfers the impact from one point to another with no cushion inbetween as thats what the levers do , smooth out the action. It's a crude but simply effective method of providing a mono shock set up. Please don't take that as " I told you so" comment it's not ment to be . Ted.
  11. Agree with ckm too but go to msport montesa and check out his bikes and mods.Just brill.
  12. Hello Duggan. I too went to a 2014 4RT in April last year. I am 12st 4 lbs with all my riding gear on that's including 2 coats this time of year.I ride clubman class. The advantage of the GasGas for me . Didn't get as tired riding over a full day with a standard bike. The suspension was great and i stood it on end everywhere i rode, easy to control is the best description. Then again i'm built like a hat rack. Standard 4 RT . Heavy and has cost quite a bit to get it to a weight i can now almost manage . I have had a couple of problems the main one for me has been the clutch ,but that's sorted now and the bike is transformed. It does put a smile on your face . But it might take you some time to adjust. The comment that nigel dabster has made is true. If you buy new (should you get a 4 rt),the suspension feels awful for ages and only really gets bedded in after 24hr constant use . Then change the oil for quallity stuff , and adjust to suit . Go through the bike they're like any other trust me on that. Throw the stand away and get a Mitani one at £130 . Use Motul Clutch/brake fluid @ £14.00 a pop as it has a far higher fade point for the clutch actuation.Throw the front tyre away and put an Xlight on(the Repsol has comps on and the standard has Dunlops) and that gives you better control on wet rocks and in streams. The 260 is a vey tractable bike. It pulls rediculously well at low RPM in 2nd and 3rd , What your saying about the power and tractabillity of the GasGas and how you like the power. For me it's not a problem and power/traction wise is a little easier to control .If your 14st ish then i think the whole package for a guy of that stature is even easier to manage so i wouldn't worry about the power at all. Would i go back to a two stroke? No problem. Am i going to ? Honest answer. Up and till last weekend i would have said without a doubt . BUT now the clutch is ok the bike is transformed and i have far more control ,so i'm staying with it and carrying on removing weight where i can and putting titanium footrest extender plates on and titanium fork spring . It's a hard choice you have . If you want to know any more PM me and i'll tell you all i've experienced with the Mont . Sorry for waffling but you asked. Shyted.

    Gas Gas Future?

If the Chinese have bought a GasGas or any other trials bike they will pretty much , replicate it to a blob of weld. I worked in Hong Kong for a while and found they are great copiers . Maybe the cheap trials bike will make a return . Like to bet it will at least be as good as the TY 175 was when that was new. Would rather do a trial on a GasGas TXT 250 than a flying Swallow dragon king tiger claw 250 my self mind. Be a shame if GasGas went in the end .
  16. What's that blue thing at the top of the picture Mags? That look's like my drive by the way.
  17. H&D racing one at £110. ish and while your at it , throw the two heavy steel bolt's in a dark area of your workshop and replace with some quality stainless domed cap heads. Really is much better.

    4Rt Quality ?

Never a truer word spoken there about the GasGas, but my own feelings on this, as i've had both bikes within the past year or so , for the premium we've paid for our bikes here you would expect better from Montesa Honda . As a competitive bike goes , for the money , in the hands of most people , the GasGas is the better (easier) of the two to ride. Also your exaggerating as you would be replacing those bearings in as little as three month of steady use if you don't clean them after every trial as the seals appear to be made to keep the crap in instead of keeping it out. Did you also know that Sherco stands for self distruct ? that's just a joke by the way Sherco owners as i'm in no doubt that they're excellent bikes. Ahemm ! P.S To buy new last year in the UK ,on the plus side ,the Montesa was £200.00 cheaper than the Beta 250 4T.

Mag's got a real question burning in the back of my pea head , why 75.54% ? Is that saying your 24.46% certain they won't be? If so i'm 94.86666% sure you'd be right !

    4Rt Quality ?

guys the " insult my intelligence" comment was about kick starting, as in, this is how you start a Montesa. What you say is true people do misuse and abuse they're bikes, but i'm on about new 2014 bikes here and when you read some of the comments people have made ,it reads as iv'e stated. Let's put it this way,how will you feel if you develop problems with your new bike, will you be annoyed or disappointed ? I would definitely agree on something though , the older bikes do seem better put together and have witnessed the abuse they take . Suppose i was a bit harsh on some thing's i wrote too . Just hacked off .

    4Rt Quality ?

I wonder from reading all this if people think we don't look after our bikes ? Get some thing clear here . Montesa Honda is definitely not a better quality product ! 24 hrs use on mine and when i came home from work ,went to workshop and tried to start the bike. Whack ,kick start ratchet gone ! They're now in my eye's no different than any other trials bike out there and certainly not worth the premium we paid over a far more competitive standard bike such as the GasGas or Beta So lets head the giving advice on starting a Montesa off now . Please don't try and insult my intelligence ! The bike defiantly has got an air of quality around it. Maybe it's just the better quality plastics and stickers eh !

    4Rt Quality ?

Oh mate i laughed when i read that. Mag's, as long as we accept it ,they will carry on getting off with it. I had a Triumph speed tripple 955i new, some years ago . It rode great, but within 4 month's i had 4 vallid warrenty claims for major issues . Triumph instructed the dealer to send the bike back as the 4th time it burned a valve on no 3 exhaust. On the 4th time i had reached the end of my leash and called Triumph directly and spoke to the warrenty man Charles Clark. A fair outcome . Try that with Beta or Honda montesa and we get the finger, not on your Nelly am i wareing that. I don't expect perfection, but we are not the subject of mass production here lad's so theres no excuse for things being left out in my eye's but then again i am a testy so and so.

    4Rt Quality ?

S.E Lucas, don't think anything bad at all . Let me put thing's into focus of what i'm saying. The people you buy your bike from new are a representative of the company ,an authorised dealer .They are Honda or whoever. Honda don't sell a Civic type 'R' with no bearing grease in . I don't think for one minute that a Honda franchise assembles every linkage,in fact i know they don't as i used to work at Bill Head's in Preston for a short time. Why then ,when we are their life line (exagerated there a bit) should we accept ,when paying for quallity, down right shoddy workmanship ? I know one thing , If you don't say anything and suck it up ,it's just daft. Why should we let it go on ? Dadof that last sentance say's ton's. SO SAY SOMETHING ! Send pictures, send a link to this thread , Like i said before,if they spent more on getting the basics right instead of technology ,then the tec stuff would be all the better for it . If that make's sense .
