All the info about the plates is spot on .I've experimented and oil do's make a difference but when the standard plates are in hot oil for a couple of houres they start to grab.My 14 year old Kawasaki ZRX 1100 don't do it and that clutch has done 17500 mile's. The standard Mont clutch is crap and for the price of a brand new bike which mine was this year it's not good at all .
Listen to what these people are saying,as quite simply ,they're right. That's going to be the next mod on mine.

Try getting GasGas parts on the run up to the Scottish, even front fork stickers hard work. Jotagas arn't on thier own.If i was that annoyed you can bet i would call Jotagas on the phone.

Hello zippy how's tricks? How's the gasser running ?Got a clip of Ian crashing a BMW 1000 RR at Missano , you remember ian dont you ? He got crushed nut's and a massive bluey on his inner thigh just below the man fruit's .Outstanding !

Done the bottom end on my 280 and the kit actually comes with the rod bottom end bearing and crank pin.little end bearing come's seperate at £16 and the mains (which are koyo on mine) are available anywhere,up to you but don't scrimp on quallity should you need to rebuild.
Some of GasGas bearings are to thier own spec as i found out on building the gear box , and big end. Should you need to re plate the cylinder, then Langcourts are the best ,and piston kit for mine was £130.00 Certainly wouldn't ride mine till it goes pop as if a part disintigrates it could damage the crank case .

Yep if the package ain't good on the day ,it doesn't come together.

2011 + in agreement with that and go for the best for your cash .
had a 2013 and it was a great bike to ride , made me very confident.
Suspension is excellent , handling excellent confidence boosting excellent .
The way you can wheelie over everything just makes a mockery of obstetrical's.
Suspension linkage bearing seal design ,total shab. The silly little bit's that
break annoying especially the cost of them.
good luck pal .

Apparently there are now only 4 official dealers in the u.k . Craig's In Yorkshire . St Blazey in Cornwall . Mickey Oats in scotland and a dealer in Northern Island. By the way , St Blazey had spares at my door the next day and once more they were what i asked for.

Agree to a degree there Ross Brown . Re tried the HTX and made my mind up about it . It did make the clutch action a little less smoother on take up and finding neutral could be done for the first hour . After that i couldn't find it . So next up im going to try GRO . The Putoline is better so far.
I got the motor hot and let it drain overnight . Won't clean the plates off ,but oils of the same spec will mix so dilution will play it's part after a good warm up a couple of times and soak the plates.
That's were i think the main problem lies and i will be putting a different arrangement in quit soon.

An excellent product if i don't say so my self .

Hello everyone.
What can you simply not manage without in your workshop?
Let's have a picture of your 10 favorites and a quick description.
Here's mine .
Motul racing chain lube.Excellent invention.Use sparingly after thorough cleaning of chain.
Dog food bowl. excellent for loads of jobs and dirt cheap.
Duck oil for that all over protection.
Castrol EP2 grease .It's the finest.
Brake cleaner for carb's , throttle bodies, and brakes.
Auto glym for making things nice and shiney.
My little torch for seeing in them hard to see recesses.
1/4 drive Snap on ratchet had that since i was exiting the womb.
Allen key socket set (metric) 3/8 drive
Measuring jug (kitchen) for those lovely lubricants.
Speed brace .

HA HA tonad ,that's a funny comment at the last.
Hard work being bombarded with peoples preferences.
If i was to buy another two stroke,my first choice would be a 2012 200cc Beta.My second ,the 2014 Jotagas 250 and the last 2013 TXT 250 pro.
I have a year 2000 GasGas 280 Andorra and it's a good bike . The one thing i would say about it is the throttle is like a trigger, and when you pull it BOOM!
A good mate of mine has a 200 Beta. It's a great bike and that's why it would be my first choice. The reason for me saying that is i ride the bike , and not the other way round .
Good luck.

Just had a couple of interesting conversations.Firstly with a guy called Ken Knight who is an oil rep for industrial application oils . I know what you might be thinking here but you would be surprised at the qualities of lets say Castrol AWS 42 Hydraulic . It looks as clear as water and the consistency of baby oil , although i wouldn't recommend giving your misses a rub down with it,it performs in some really harsh conditions.
I explained to him what i'd tried and he said " you can't generalize with a 'Target oil'. you will find that the mid range operation of target oils is good and the extremities of the temperature range not as suitable.
Whats happening is the manufacturer is trying to get round a problem the cheapest way and the fault lie's elsewhere"
Interesting .
I spoke to another guy who i won't name but let's say this ,he's no fool and dealt with Montesa independently for a while.
Prior to this i did a little experiment. Changed the oils. New HTX in the gear box.Ran up to temp in neutral and with no chain on.After 15 mins the drag of the oil gave up and the gearbox sprocket stopped moving. Faultless gear selection and found neutral no problem. Put the bike in 2nd gear and tried to stop the sprocket turning with the sole of my cappers with the clutch disengaged . Not a cat in hell's chance ! Hence hard (odd) selection when the chain is fitted.
So the conversation went like this. What's your bike like with the aftermarket clutch assembly in ?
" much better than standard and i also run 10w 30 in the gearbox and have done for ages ".
Kind of put's things in perspective really .
So next i'm going to try Spotsawyers clutch arrangement and see how it goes.Still not sold on the HTX though.

Nice one Ross but if it has the Dunlop front tyre ,take it off and use it on or for something else.
Just put an X lite on mine and it handles tons better. The sump shield only does half a job too
and exposes the clutch case . I put an after market one on which is much better.
Quite funny you say about the breather assembly, i couldn't believe how heavy the pipes are .
Thought they were lead lined.

JJ ,front pads on my Mont squeal like hell when they get wet . From then on that continues until i remove them and clean them up. The noise isn't high pitched either , it sounds like a wagons brakes, bloody awful.Vibrates right through the bar's.
The rear is nowhere near as bad though.
I haven't lost the lever or noticeable performance either.
-
My own opinion only.Maybe you would be fine with the Montesa.I think it's a bike that need's more commitment to ride good and if your a light weight like me(170 kg with boots)you will find it saps your strength.
You said you found the DR 350 heavy so if your new to trials, maybe a 2 stroke would be better for you and as someone has suggested here don't discount the Jotagas ,or indeed the Ossa .
I had a 2013 GasGas and it was fantastic to ride very controllable , fantastic suspension ,compared to the Montesa the overall quality is just not there though.Take availability of spares into consideration as well . Tough decision , but exciting one . Good luck with your choice .

Tell you what i agree with what your saying. One thing i would add is that if you ain't got the package ,it aint going to happen . Vettel in formula one this year proves that. This year in moto GP i think there are alot of riders with a brilliant package and Rossi is there this year. The Hondas have got the legs on Yamaha though and would bet if Rossi was on the Honda he would have had several 1st places already . I said several as Marquez has an undeniable tallent . So the pacage is better with him on the Honda .
Still comes back to one thing though . He's got Brilliant white teeth that have that ring of confidance BUT HE IS DULL .
You can see the life ousing out of Rossis persona . The rest are shadow men .
-
The other point as well this season is that Rossi is without Jeremy Burgess. Doesn't seem to be harming his performance now does it ?
Make's you wonder what goes on , and i think Rossi isn't as hassled this year either,he look's more at ease so maybe tensions were riding high there for some reason.
Recently went to Italy and i was in a cab. i quized the lady cab driver i was in . She said Valantino is more popular with people of all ages than the premier of Italy.
So i asked the cashire in the supermarket, and several people started waffling about Rossi and she said " They all a love a Va l an tino" and gave the thumbs up . Asked them about Jorge Lorrenzo ,and she said " Who"? Enough said then eh !

Contact Kevin by email at GasGas u.k and he will give you a possitive yes or no . He will answer your querie and probably give you the reason why if you can't .
Alternativly ,you can go on the GasGas uk web site,go to Tech/Spares,look through the on line expandable workshop manual and start by looking at the part numbers for the connecting rod.Compare the 300 & 250 numbers. If they're different id say the rod is longer. So it may not be just down to the bore.

Find Matt Gardners stuff on E-Bay uk . Full branded trials gear ,pants and shirt in plainish designs (EXID & EXCIT however you spell the name's) £49.00 brand new in all sizes and if you have the patience go to his site and browse through, as theres heaps of gear really cheap.I bought a Branded trials shirt new for £8 inc postage and it was behind my door 2 day's from ordering.

So racer34 how's the new bike?
-
There's a test procedure in the manual . The only problem is you would need to crank the motor over therefor have to wait till your re built or provide external fuel pressure via a pump with the fuel system built up,up to the pressure regulator and injector basically .Then observe weather you have a droplet forming .The blisters sound like de-lamination but at best that's a guess.
I will pass on the info in a couple of day's as i'm on my way to Norway just now.

Went to Backcowm quarry today. Then a cloud came and rested on it and pished down for an hour or so .Then the cloud moved until 11.45,and then it rained .went back to the car and sat and had a brew.Didn't stop , so i fact off out again and was wet but enjoying my self.Came across these two young lads on 125s(1 beta 1 GasGas ) one of them was called Tom and the other lad was the125 national ACU youth champion.Hell fire , he was brill . I rode off and went making some sections . Did some wading and hit a rock . Oh dear , under the water up to my shoulders (whilst in the horizontal plane) and the bike kept running .The exhaust was under.so i give the throttle a blast and got to my knees, lifted the bike and was expecting it to cut out because of ingestion. No no no.The red rooster carried on running .Lucky so and so.Was so wet and ful off stinking quarry dirt it felt like i'd crapped my pants . Could feel grit under my ball sack . had to stop and get it out.
So here's a pic or two of finest Lancashire , English summer weather for those who think summer means sunshine.
By the way ,that's loads steeper than it looks on the photo.

Agree totally with your comments on the Mont. The front Dunlop is skittish on wet rocks when riding through streams and if you try the stiffness of the tread knobbles , you can feel the difference when you compare them directly . The back one i find just as good probably due to the extra weight of the bike.
As far as balance goes , it's easier to find when you stop from moving .The only bike i've ever got on and balanced instantly is the 2013 GasGas txt 250.
The Monts quality is head and shoulders above the rest and after several hours use the only thing i've done to it is adjust the chain.
It's ridiculously easy to control power on climbs of all types with low down traction .
One thing, those bloody great bolt's that hold the bash plate on,replace them with some dome headed Allen bolt's made from stainless , and then be amazed how heavy those bolts are in comparison .
HA HA HA ,laughed so much at the Chinese quality comment and have to agree , but i do like the Beta .
-
So back to this conversation.
Rossi still in the podium positions and consistent. No doubt the mastery of Marques , but he's still as dull as a storm cloud.
So for all those who wrote Rossi off , just look at his standing this season . 3oo GPs,consistant podium finisher and he's on it. Oh aye, he's getting on for 38ish too.
What are most of the critics doing at his age, probably what they always do ---BLOODY CRITICIZE !

How's the Mont compare to the Beta mags?
