  1. And today on my gas gas i cleaned her and stripped the clutch, modified the plates , adjusted the rebound on the back shock in preparation for a trial on Saturday . Shipdamite , the Wednesday trial was a good laugh , made that many cockups it was a joke . The sections were good , but the sea of mud made them an ordeal . Turned the bike into a submarine in a stream ,which was pretty deep . Can't believe how much traction the bike has on muddy slopes .just blasts up'em. the levers were £ 45 from gasgas uk inclusive of post ,order before noon on weekdays ,get them the day after . Zippy , you checked out these levers ? You can pull them in ,out in ,you know how it goes ,quick pull and your done , GREAT!
  2. Today fitted my new Apico bendy levers and re-packed my exhaust ,and here's some pictures . Check out the crap end cap metal work exam failure , and the sanitary towel type god knows how old exhaust packing . No longer sounds like a WW2 fighter plane .wednesday night i'm riding a trial . The levers are neat and well made .
  3. Open up the workshop , started it up . Took the back shock off because it's started to leak , and have got an original shock from Richard Allen with no leak which is like new . Thanks for the response to the thread people .
  4. Hello actwin , if the bikes a handfull do a little work on it and part exchange/sell it for more dollers and get a 240 . At that price you can't go wrong ! It (the 300 ) may be perfectly good for you , i had a 240 and rate it above my 245 for indistructabillity and think the Fantics of that time were tons better than any of the later Monos . To give you some insite into your bike ,go to www.classictrials . They are here in the south of England and have some great tips and ideas for your bike . Don't know about fantic in the USA for spares but Bob Wright Fantic spares here in the uk can get or has on stock some hard to find bits . Steve Good motor cycles too . Shy ted
  5. Well someone had to do it ! Check out shipdamites 17 page long so far on the same subject but covering YOUR GASGAS TODAY . Good ideas are always simple so ..... Today i was still at work ,but before i came out for my tour ...... on my 1989 245 Mono i rebuilt the front forks and picked up some flourecent orange powder coated parts from Triple s in Bingly and they look err well VERY ORANGE ! What did you do ?
  6. Hello bretheren , today i recieved some exhaust packing and some bendy levers for my GasGas .Unfortunatly i'm still cutting welded in situ hydraulic manifolds from a substructural support beam out here in the North sea . So not so much what did i do to my GASGAS today but what did i get in the post for my GASGAS today . Yep recon your quite right there Shipdamite . Would like to bet @What did you do to your Fantic twin or mono shock to day would be hellish popular . Infact I'm going to do that right now. Will send you some pics soon of the levers and wether they're good or not . Shy T . U-roo

    The Doctor

Interesting you should be on about Rossi here . I've seen champs come and go but by far the most calculating all out complete showman determined winner is Rossi . Followed his career from 125s through to now . I do think something aint right though . Undoubtedly he wants it you can see it but there's no way he can't ride around any problem he has machinery wise . Agree he's got nothing to prove ,but for his aura and personality to take a step back and settle for no podium , just don't fit .
  8. What did i do to my Gas Gas today -------- NOTHING ! Why ? Because i'm still at work ! BUT iv'e entered two more comps . Submitted my entry for the Holgate One hundred see if i can get a ride and an evening round for Lancs MCC at Arkholme near Lancaster. On thursday i'm going to buy some bendy levers and silencer packing over t'internet and hope i get a ride home next week just in time for the evening round . See you boy's n girls have been productive with the cleaning equipment .Shipdamite good effort in the trial , and whats it like to have posted one of the most popular resonded to posts ,in a short amount of time on this subject , just goes to show that gas gas are value for money bikes and no wonder they're still winning trials every where in the hands of people like us ,err maybe hands of them in my case . Shy T
  9. Yes to Frodsham club and trials . Cowm is brill ! Rocky as hell but there is a variaty of terrain . Rock's , water ( with rocks ) mud and rocks Big hills with large and small err rocks . Seriously , it's good fun and there is a group of lads on Montesa's up there and they are sound .After you've done there , they have a free power washer to get the crap off your bike ,they've a butty waggon on site so it's heaven !!! The last weekend of the month is for 4x4s though . You need a photo and to join on the day but it's well worth it . Will be in touch Shy t
  10. Yes coops she does and yes that's my bike . I enjoyed myself and finished fourth from last in the beginners and actually cleaned 22 times .fell off once on section three ,stalled once on section four wrong side of flag on section five . Talked to some great guy's there , and i'm sorry i missed you but now i have my mug shot on here ,the next time i'm out ,i'll give you a nod and you will possibly recognise me . I'm off to work for three week's on Sunday morning and when i come home i do nothing for two day's except be with the family . i fancy doing Frodsham club rounds as i know that area very well . Do you ever go to Backcowm coops ? Shy T
  11. If you are a Darwen trials club member and rode Grime hills trial the other night . I would like to say thanks to those of you who took the time to direct ,talk and generally made me feel at home . I enjoyed the banter with several of you , The big guy on the Armstrong TL , the teenage lad on his grandads immaculate tiger cub and big guy with the Max Equip shirt . TYZ lad whom new his bike and rode most excellent , and the elder man with his grandson on their Beta EVO,s . Thank's you people and see you again . Shy .
  12. Shipdamite , your right . So today and for the next two day's i will be cleaning my GasGas,ordering a new kick start lever before i end up with stitches in my right knee , and then, going back to work for three weeks. Oh yes on my first trial for 20 years i finished 3rd from last in my class but managed 22 cleans . suppose it,s better than a smack in the ball's with a curled up hedge hog ! For the education of any American readers , a Hedge hog is a small version of a Porcupine which don't fire it's quills and is just the right size to fit in your groin area .
  13. PS shipdamite , the second image is blared because i was twitching with poised Mucoff and hose pipe in right hand . Now where's the mard a*** cream for my leg ?
  14. 0007 try an R1 up to 2002 because they were carbed , you will be shocked how smooth and gutsy they are , especially compared to injected bikes of the same era . David Jeffries demolished the average speed lap on the Isle of man on a carbed R1 . After that the injected GSXR 1000 . What makes you think ,i for one , haven't ridden an R1 of both type's ? There are reasons why the RC 30 commands a kings ransom for resale , as even an 0w01 of the same vintage commands less than half the price of the Honda , which is also a 750 . So what i suggest , if you haven't tried one , get a ride on an RC30 and then you too can laugh out loud when you get off it while you stop shacking with adrenalin at how insane that little bike has just carved your favorite road to bits ,because the noise alone will give you a stiffy for a week as it snarls like no other invention you've ever heard on this earth ! You will convince yourself that there's room for both.By the way think the R1s are great bikes ! Not to lose the thread , even injected bikes have a fuel enrichment devise ( system ) as well . Best regards Shy T
  15. Had a brill time at the Darwen trial . Give the gas gas it's leg's ,and even though i did the beginners route ,that ww2 brute aeroplane engine punch, just demolished anything in it's path , including my inner right knee ( kick start don't you know ) . So today on my GasGas i did a trial , and enjoyed it ! Just for you shipdamite here's some photo's !
  16. Well today my bretheran , i preped the now "my" Gasser (Lad is a forensic scientist and he's off to part time cop/uni job ) 280 for an evening trial tomorrow night .Thats the brakes ,gear oil , chain clean and re-tension,clean and re-grease throttle tube ,oil throttle cable , tyre pressure , grease spindles and check check and check again. Will send you a dirty shot ( of the bike ) shipdamite ,kind of a before and after job . Shy T
  17. Got your drift coops . Blue TXTAndorra 280 GasGas ,2000 model year is my steed now. My Fantic is in bit's in my work shop so i'm on the Gasser . Lets see if practice at Backcowm will pay off . Looking forward to it ,and see you there .
  18. Well finally home when a comp is on ! It's my first trial since 1993 . I'm off to the evening event at Grimehills in Darwen Lancs . If your going anybody reading this ,ill see you there . Shyted .
  19. This is a subject that you need to understand . I've had two bikes since 1976 that have fouled plugs religiously . An RC 30 and a BSA Bantam . None since the RC 30 and that was down to trying to ride it in the realms of sanity . A choke ( fuel enrichment device ) alters the air fuel ratio either by supplying more fuel or restricting air flow . The point of it is to warm the engine up , so fuel sticking to the induction tract is compensated for, until , eventually, normal atomisation is beginning to take place. Let it idle for a little while until the exhaust smoke starts to heat up . That means the fuel is starting to be used efficiently and the temperature is starting to get passed on from the combustion chamber , to the metal . use a small amount of steady rev's until the bike runs without choke . I hate it when i see people fire engines up and drive off straight away . Worse still sit there revving the tits off them as soon as they start .That's just me , and thats why i had a Peugeot 405 diesel with 425000 miles on the clock with the original engine . Hope this put's some understanding your way . Ted .

    Triple Sss

Picked up some bits for my Fantic iv'e had refinished by triple s at Bingly . Wasn't a cheap job but you get what you pay for . The stickers were done by a guy i know from Bakewell and are near bang on . Any one interested in stickers give us a shout and i'll pass you his number .
  21. Hello Chuckindenver, think your bike look's brill. I really like the 4t and would do the mod's you've done . I'm on the saving up part at the moment ,but it's the 4t that has drawn my attention over other bike's . Like you say though it's that damage you can do to it on a tumble that can make you pig sick ,but on the plus side, at least it's not a Montesa , ouch ! At that price that would really hurt . Hope you enjoy it . Ted
  22. Hello cursed .don't take anything i'll message here to heart , as i realize your not quite grasping whats happening . Weather your using gear oil or ATF (Hydraulic oil ) it wont cause slip . If it is ,then it's doing its job so to speak. The springs provide the clamping force , the steel plates transfer drive to the gearbox and ultimately the back wheel and the friction plates transfer crank power to steels from the outer basket (driven by the crank) Now think about the forces going through there. BHP ( Power ) Torque (Turning force) torsional shear(whip) and finally the oils job . Cleaning ,cooling ,providing lubrication. The clutch takes loads of stick . It provides a means of transferring and disconnecting the drive from the engine via the gearbox to the back wheel . You are experiencing the effects of torque , whereby the crank turning force hasn't got the ability to be transferred to the gearbox because the resistance from everywhere else on the gear box is greater than the transferable input force and therefore ,like water , seeks the path of least resistance ,and so you get slip . So what could cause it ? Poor clamping force , worn friction material ,worn steels or all three . I doubt adjustment has any affect here, the problem is slip in higher gears Pull the case off and have a look and you will see how what i've written works . Go on the gas gas usa web site and you will probably find a measurement for the plates ,if not message kev at gas gas uk, and you'll probably fined that they are approaching tolerance . Replace the springs and all the plates then you sure off a job done well with no more issues . Hope that's put some light on it for you . Ted
