The outcome of a government consultation on a piece of EU insurance legislation could end motorsport in the UK. Yesterday, the Government issued a document for public consultation, which gives an option of implementing the European Court decision known as the ‘Vnuk judgment’. The ruling makes it compulsory for anyone using any form of motorised transport to have third party damage and injury insurance. This will affect all participants in all forms of motorsport. The insurance industry has made it clear to government that third party risks for motorsport activities are uninsurable, not least because of the sheer number of potential vehicle damage claims that would arise. Therefore, if implemented, the Vnuk judgment would wipe out all legal motor and motorcycle sport activity. In the UK, the motorsport industry employs over 50,000 people, generates a total of £11 billion of sales each year and is backed up by a world-leading high performance engineering industry. Motorcycle competition is a popular UK Sport and generates much needed income in rural areas, with over 1.9 million spectators watching around 58,000 riders attend an average of over 4000 off-road and track events each year. These range from junior motocross to the British Superbikes, which would all end without the required insurance under the ECJ ruling.* MCIA, ACU and AMCA call on the government to exempt motor and motorcycle sport from any changes to insurance law which arise from the ECJ judgment. While the UK remains in the EU, even a temporary implementation of the ruling, as suggested by the Department for Transport in its consultation document, would be fatally damaging to what is an important industry and net contributor to the UK economy. Speaking for the ACU, AMCA and MCIA, Steve Kenward, CEO of MCIA says: “At a stroke, this would wipe out a successful industry and all the jobs that go with it, as well as eliminating a popular leisure pursuit for 1.9 million people, along with the boost that this gives to both local and national economies. “If the Government implements the Vnuk judgment un-amended, British motorcycle sport would end in the UK. Given that we are coming out of the EU, we are astonished that the Government is even considering an option to implement Vnuk. We call on Ministers to end uncertainty and put a stop to Vnuk in the UK.” Background: The Vnuk judgment imposes compulsory third party injury and damage insurance to all vehicles of any kind when used on any type of land. As well as affecting all motorsport vehicles, it could affect electric bicycles, sit-on lawnmowers, golf buggies, mobility scooters and even uninsured vehicles parked on private property under the Statutory Off-Road Notification scheme. The ruling stems from a case involving a Slovenian farm worker, who was hurt falling from a ladder, which was hit by a reversing tractor. Sadly Munch of M Sport passed away suddenly earlier this year.

Eh? That's not true. There are security measures to stop account sharing but they won't stop home/work use unless you access from several different locations in a short period of time.

Competition will be Sunday only. On Saturday a giant golden statue of Supreme Imperial Leader, Kim Jong Jake will be placed in the paddock and everyone will have to solemnly file past it giving thanks and worship and leaving suitable tokens of their esteem. Those not complying will be shot. For Japan and USA the day of worship will take place on Friday, hence why they're listed as three day events.

Only just noticed this but Jim was not banned. He was warned repeatedly about promoting his business ventures yet carried on doing so. He was warned yet again and after a bit of toy throwing from pram he asked for his account to be removed. There is considerable cost, time and effort involved in providing this site and these forums. They do not exist for people to get free advertising. It is the only rule that is enforced and it is not an unreasonable rule.

OSET Bikes are appealing for witnesses or information after 45 of its 2017 bikes were stolen yesterday from a lorry park in Leicestershire. The incident happened between 1800 and 0500 on the night of the 25 October at Markfield Service Station J22 off the M1, while the driver completed an overnight rest break. The new 2017 bikes were being transported from the docks, having cleared customs, to the manufacturer’s warehouse facilities in the Midlands. From here they were due to be transported across the UK to the dealership network. The theft was only discovered when the driver returned to his vehicle at 5am on the 26th October 2017 and noticed both seal and container lock had been removed and the door ajar. Thieves stole only the smaller models in the range - the 12.5 Eco, 12.5R and 16.0R were the models taken. Anyone with information should contact Leicestershire police on 101, ask for Leicestershire Police and use crime number 1600-0339-892. Alternatively please email simon@osetbikes.co.uk If you are offered a suspicious 2017 OSET bike outside of OSET’s official dealer network please check the frame number and report it to the police or OSET as it may be stolen.

Very sad to hear the news that Penny Ludgate passed away at the weekend. A lovely woman and we shared many a banter at the SSDT. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

Nobody is suggesting the Club should marshall it. At the SSDT there are a couple of cops on bikes at the popular sections to stop the muppets being muppets. The rule is that your vehicle must be completely off the road. You are right though that the bulk of the problem lies with "support vehicles" just abandoning them wherever they like. If a rider were injured and an ambulance couldn't get through because of these clowns, what then?
