  1. It doesn't sound far out, if the GB47 box has its correct internals. A bottom gear ratio of 29 - 30:1 seems to be about right, and your present set up is 28.8;1. You could change the rear sprocket for a 49,or a 50- the latter giving 30:1. If it seems very high geared, check that it has the correct pinions in the box. To do this, the mainshaft (clutch) should need 3.2 turns for the gearbox sprocket to rotate 1 turn, while 1st gear is selected. If the clutch only needs 2.8 turns, then the box has road gears inside, although that sounds unlikely as the gearing is otherwise pretty close. Should the box not have the correct internals, i have new extra wide gears for them.
  2. Keith I have a Vale Onslow top end on an 8e engined bike. It certainly livened it up, but i think they were really for scrambling in the day- mine has a 30mm inlet tract,. I'd be surprised if it was any better than a standard villiers top end, unless they also did a trials specific one - they may have, there are two types of cylinder head for sure, as i've had both. One type has a central plug and the other has the plug and decompressor on either side Pistons are different to a villiers, but Simon at Nametab has them.
  3. Roadholder legs have the mudguard bracket lugs in different positions. Early ones have the lugs high up, and on later ones they are an inch or so lower down. (some don't have any..) Sammy Miller used to do them ,and probably still do. They come with mountings for both types of legs, so you just ignore the pair that are not used.

  5. Here you are Mr Dabster, Question to Nottinghamshire Police- A motorcycle was stolen recently from Colston Bassett. Excellent images appeared on social media websites of the culprits. I notice that, despite the high quality of the images ,none have appeared on your website in your caught on camera section, or any mention in appeals. Can I assume that this is because they have been caught. Thank you. Their Response- Hi Mick, Thanks for your message. We have received a number of reports regarding these images and so we didn't add them to the caught on camera appeals section of our website. If you have any further queries, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks, Sobia
  6. The point I was making was that the Police hadn't bothered to post those excellent images on their own website, yet they have plenty of scarcely identifiable images on there of people pinching perhaps a tin of beans from Morrisons. Its hard to understand why though, unless the crime wasn't reported to them, or, better still, they caught them immediately. Talking of assumptions, how do you know the bike wasn't secured properly?
  7. I expected to read more about this on the Nottinghamshire Police website- http://www.nottinghamshire.police.uk/ in their "Caught on Camera" section, but it seems to have been overlooked.
  8. Those that wish to can continue to take their bike for an MOT if they prefer.
  9. Good news Jon,glad you are pleased with them..Mick
  10. Hi Jon,glad you are pleased with the gears. Mainshaft lengths can be a bit confusing. The shortest one is the one fitted to the AJS and Matchless bikes with a GB gearbox. Overall length is 9 5/16". I have tried it on my Ariel project, and everything lines up nicely, but that is with the engine mainshaft shortened as much as possible. Most people prefer the one which is a little longer, however, yours sounds too long. I think Ariel did 3 different lengths (all longer than the AJS one mentioned),none are in plentiful supply now,so it may be easier to shorten it as you say,and cut more thread on it. There is mention of the different mainshaft lengths available here- http://archives.jampot.dk/Technical/Transmission/Burman/Burman_B52_Mainshaft_Lengths_(Oriel_OC).pdf But the diference in lengths mentioned appear to be of the plain portion that the sleeve gear runs on,not overall lengths.. Just bought some layshaft bushes from Draganfly Motorcycles, which seem fine. About £6 ea.
  11. Charlie If Yamaha no longer supply them, then get a Wiseco piston http://www.wiseco.co.uk/ or there are some on e bay in the US,which you may have seen. You will need to make a new little end bush, and remove a small amount of metal inside the piston, between the gudgeon pin bosses.
  12. Do you? Have you taken the trouble to e mail the ACU about them as well??
  13. If its me your referring to,i am a member of several ACU clubs this year, and will be again next year. Who told you its a Bug?,because if they knew, the facility should have been shut down until it was resolved.
  14. 1) They dont, because they didnt ask the question. 2) Its a big improvement because i usually have to join an ACU club at the start of a new year, (as a non licence holder,as the previous one has expired) get a secret code, and apply for a licence. This way,due to the ACU's incompetance, (or loophole,as you prefer to call it) i dont need to go begging for a secret code when i renew my club membership.
  15. Just renewed mine, never asked for a code.Big improvement.
  16. The current Pirelli Trials tyres, front and rear are tubeless (MT 43 PRO).
  17. 1/4 BSP (parallel) threads in the casing.
  18. . If you want Taper Rollers,Ray Small on 023 8069 3183 does them. It is a special with the outer race diameter reduced.
  19. The tester is wrong. A speedo is not needed for an MOT
  20. You may have been sold inferior, fake SKF bearings.- http://www.skf.com/files/891104.pdf
  21. There were two inner casings at Cheltenham yesterday, but no outer,or i would have picked them up.
  22. The GB39 box may have the correct mainshft too. To be sure, you could pm John Bartram, the Ariel framebuilder (Ariel_HT5_John) on here. He may know as he has just built an Ariel for someone.
  23. Who told you it was self funded?
  24. The original one was a GB47,but your unlikely to get one of those. Ariel NH 350 road bike had a GB39,and the VH 500 a GB40. Mainshaft lengths are different and its the shorter one you need. Middle and outer casings from an AJS/Matchless GB gearbox are needed,-This box has the shortest mainshaft of the lot,but it is too short for an HT. The Ariel layshaft needs the speedo drive worm removing before it can be used with the AJS/Matchless covers. The GB26 is likely to have related to the AJS middle cover used on your last one.
