  1. . If you want Taper Rollers,Ray Small on 023 8069 3183 does them. It is a special with the outer race diameter reduced.
  2. The tester is wrong. A speedo is not needed for an MOT
  3. You may have been sold inferior, fake SKF bearings.- http://www.skf.com/files/891104.pdf
  4. There were two inner casings at Cheltenham yesterday, but no outer,or i would have picked them up.
  5. The GB39 box may have the correct mainshft too. To be sure, you could pm John Bartram, the Ariel framebuilder (Ariel_HT5_John) on here. He may know as he has just built an Ariel for someone.
  6. Who told you it was self funded?
  7. The original one was a GB47,but your unlikely to get one of those. Ariel NH 350 road bike had a GB39,and the VH 500 a GB40. Mainshaft lengths are different and its the shorter one you need. Middle and outer casings from an AJS/Matchless GB gearbox are needed,-This box has the shortest mainshaft of the lot,but it is too short for an HT. The Ariel layshaft needs the speedo drive worm removing before it can be used with the AJS/Matchless covers. The GB26 is likely to have related to the AJS middle cover used on your last one.

  9. I can get a gallon out of my road bike and take it there with me if it helps.
  10. Well, his stand looked a lot different to previous years thats for sure. There appeared to be just a few sweat shirts for sale, whilst another trader on the very next stall was busy all day selling villiers parts.
  11. Those who have a classic vehicle with a valuable registration number may be less pleased with the changes.Part of the mechanism to transfer a registration number is that the vehicle must have a valid mot. Nice for those who dont own one,or disapprove of the practice, but not for those who have paid extra for a vehicle on the basis that its registration has a value.
  12. The Vincent has only one shock absorber-the two "shocks" referred to are actually spring boxes, containing just springs. The single shock absorber is a seperate unit fitted centrally, with a spring box either side.
  13. This guy could have been at the fore front of supplying classic two stroke stuff as demand has increased if he put his mind to it. Instead, while he was trying to sell Greeves Anglians, which nobody wanted,a cottage industry of suppliers has evolved around him-lost business that he will not regain. Should he resurrect the latest project,i hope he gets someone else to face the public on his behalf, because at the Telford show a couple of years ago,i found him rude, and i know others did too.
  14. Dont think e bay ended it-its still showing in completed items, says the seller ended it..
  15. I think i'd put the old tyre back on. If it stays up,it will confirm no damage was caused taking it off in the first place, and pretty much prove the problem is with the new tyre.
  16. Have you checked its a tubelsss, and not a tube type?
  17. I'm leaning towards the Rigid ajs.

Well,if you dont want to pay a premium for that one,i'm sure they will sell you a similar one without the provenance for the current market value. But i suspect you wont want that one either, will you? Just to amuse us further, what would you pay for the Jarvis bike?
  19. I hope that Mr Deal continues to invest heavily in the project.
  20. Yes,its worrying that his mind is wandering to such things at this stage. My priority would be establishing some sort of dealer network first, although i've yet to hear of a single person who has bought,or even ordered one, despite them apparently building them to fulfill orders since the launch in Sammys' car park last year. I'd be interested to know what the spares situation is, i assume its a case of back to Greeves and pay what he chooses to charge you, if you break a mudguard, for instance.
  21. It looks like they hit problems. Rider No 171 lasted for 6 sections, and No 172 22 sections, looking at the results
  22. Anyone seen the Greeves out and about? Its nearly a year since that success in Holland.
  23. I've had one for 3 years now and its been fine,(it replaced a VW Transporter which spent 42 days at the dealers in the same period of ownership.) Only faults have been intercooler which had oil mist around one of the seams, and the air con condenser which failed due to road salt rotting it. Mine is a 136 ps,it does 37 mpg, although if i bought another i'd go for the 120ps as there is none of the exhaust emmission stuff mine has and they can be remapped easier. If you do go for the 1.6 90ps model, make sure its serviced to schedule with high spec oil. If this particular engine is neglected the oil can partially solidify in the sump, blocking the pick up pipe, and knacker the engine..
  24. So,a carb that was used last year and years prior to that isnt allowed this year? or have i got it wrong? The regs state MK1 carbs acceptable,MK2's are not permitted. Well a MK 1 1/2 is not a MK2 thats for sure. It should have been left as it was for this year and clarified in next years regs. Some people do a 1000 mile round trip for this trial, and i'm sure they can do without an extra
