  1. I wonder if anyone can help me with some information. I am writing an article for the owners club magazine for a Pre'65 trials bike I inherited from my late father. I remember he took it to an off-road show at Alton Towers in the early 1980's and I think won the concours award for pre-65 trials bikes. I am interested if anyone can confirm the year, the show must have been before May 1985 because I rode it in the Pre'65 Scottish, after which it was no longer concours condition. Thanks in advance.

Mike Why dont you just have some new springs made, I had some made recently to my design/specification,
  5. B40RT, yes the Norton and I have toured the Scottish Highlands together for the last 20 years or so, did I talk to you at Bilsdale this year, when I was not on the Norton.
  6. Not quite sure when someone suggested Not Ron. I have little or no knowledge of Enfields if it was me you meant, but I will be at the Thumpers trial on Sunday near within 25 miles of Chelmsford if I can help Dave Dix.
  7. I am secretary of a trials club in Norfolk, which event do you mean? I can probably help
  8. When I had to take the flywheel off my TLR250 I tried parts from various bikes in my workshop and found the rear wheel spindle from a Honda 400/4 fitted, I have just checked this and it appears to be 16x1.5. I hope this helps.
  9. I would guess purely based on the one picture something to do with Bob Gollner
  10. I have a Honda TLR 250 which I have ridden, amongst other bikes, for about 10 years. In the past when it needed a reline/rebore it only smoked when on load and high engine speed on the road. Now if I leave it for a week, whenever I start it, it smokes for about 30 seconds and then runs clean all day. This is a very similar symptom to when the oil pumps wear on pre-65 bikes and the oil drains from the tank into the crankcase when left standing. I wonder if anyone has any similar experience, I feel it may not be the normal valve stem seals/piston wear that I have experneiced in the past and maybe I need to check the oil pump before stripping off the barrel.
  11. Lingo I talked to you on the section where my Douglas did the double somersault. I wondered if you knew anyone who may have photographs of the crash. I am still trying to straighten the damage. Notron
  12. Gary Ring me again if you want to talk tyres. In my opinion and experience, overall Dunlop is best on a heavy rigid in Scotland. Michelin survived the two days but had obviously damaged the plies as it had no lateral stiffness after two days. I have not tried an IRC yet, as last choice as probably too soft. My advice use the Michelin you have and we can sort what tyre pressures later.
  13. Gary Responding to Big Johns comments here are my thoughts for what they are worth. I have been lucky enough to ride a 500t for a total of 30 days in the Scottish pre 65, the likely problems you will have are punctures broken footrests punctures sheared rear hub to drum puntures You are about 10 minutes behind me on the same loop so you will catch me up I am sure as I always use the full six hours I have paid for. We will finish with the back markers on the Saturday and they can be helpful so be nice to them, even Munch. The tyre pressure you run depends on how serious you are and how quick you can change rear tubes. I normally average one per day and we normally make a competition out of it. A mate of mine, John May still holds the record for changing a tube a few years ago near Callart. Your dad will know John through John's late father Reg. Footrests take a real hammering and will break if you are not careful and prepared. One year I lost nearly an hour finding some welding gear in Kinlochleven to fix them during Saturday. It must be a sign of the modern economy I could have any kind of all day food but no welding gear. The latest tyres and competitive spirit/modern sections have a habit of shearing the three studs between the rear hub and the drum. It is an awful design which tricks you as they feel tight even when one or more have sheared. Take them apart to check, if you want to know the mod let me know. A few years ago I sheared one on the Mamore Road and had to borrow a bike to get back to the Schoolhouse to get a spare drum to fix it. Back markers can be helpful. Over the years the gearing on my bike has got lower and lower to make it rideable, currently it is as follows engine 13, clutch 42, gearbox 14, rear wheel 43. You need to get it as low as possible to get slow enough in the sections not to get punctures. Riding a rigid in Scotland is different to any other bike, for the others getting a ride is difficult and getting around two days is easy etc etc. Having a good ride in Scotland on a rigid is very satisfying, after 30 attempts I finally cleaned Pipeline in 2008. Useful Rigid type expressions,
  14. If it has a standard productin carb fit Honda part number 16012-KJ2-004, needle and jet. These carbs all seem to be wearing about now and this always seems to fix the idle stability. It is the same part number for 250 and 200
  15. My majesty has standard spacers, measured with the wheel in the frame the right (brake ) side is a simple steel spacer 49.3 mm long. The left (chain) side is more complicated as the spacer acts as a shield for the seal. The dimension is 10.6 mm from the inside of the swinging arm to the closest part of the aluminium hub to the swinging arm, this part is approx 50mm diameter and larger in diamter than the steel spacer. I hope this helps
  16. Gary, good luck with riding the Norton next year. I have ridden a 500t in Scotland most years since 1986 and its not getting any easier as I think Big John will agree.
  17. The only official place I know is Chris Edward's place at Corton, try him on 01502 731627
  18. The honda part number you need for needle and jet is 16012-KJ2-004 and should cost about
  19. I have had to prepare my 250 Majesty, which has not been trialed seriously for 10 years, for a mate to ride in the twin shock Inter Centre Team trial. All is running ok but the footrests seem very short. Does anyone know of any more modern longer footrests that might fit, it is a standard Godden frame. Thanks.
  20. I have got to prepare my 250 majesty for a friend to ride in a trial, I have not used it seriously for about 10 years. I cannot remember the oil volume or viscosity/type for the gearbox/clutch or the forks. Please can anyone help, with regard to the forks they are standard Yamaha and if you give an answer I would be interested in the weight of rider. Thanks

TLR Tryalsman, I am interested in trying the Barnett Kevlar clutch plates but they do not list them for the TLR 250, do you know how to get them still or are they the same as a CR80 or CR125 perhaps, thanks
  23. I am interested in any differences between TLR250 engines and RTL 250 engines ( the one with the side exhaust port which fits a single front down tube frame ). In particular any differences in gear ratios camshaft timing, valve events clutch plates or springs If there are differences the RTL part numbers would be great. Thanks
