  1. Had this query earlier today - perhaps from a sourse trying to help you? Answer - yes you can use your trials bike - but as you have already surmised it will take a lot of punishment. I have used Bultaco Sherpa's in Welsh Two days, & a few British Championship two day events - but hat was years ago - and they had a bit of a seat. I still spent most of day standing up - probably why my kneesa are now knackered. ! For Enduro - You will need working lights For H & H you will not
  2. We have been working with an Insurance broker to offer advice and assistance to them in order for them to provide an annual policy which recognises that Enduro & Trials machines will be used on the road in some events while travelling between sections etc. The cover is now available - and the broker knows exactly what we want - and it is with a reputable big insurance name - it also allows you to tax bike etc so I hope it is job done. Contact is MSM Insurance - 01279 870535 Fax 01279 870636
  3. Yes - I have to agree with you both. No problem with the 2008 words - the Observer is making a judgment - and that judgment is based on the rules or regulations Because some words appear to have gone missing - it is difficult if not impossible for him to make a judgment on something that is not there. First I have to find out why it is not there - then unless there is something I have missed we will have to come up with a method to quickly make it right. I suppose in theory - if say all of page 202 was left out of handbook - we would not just abandon it all - but have to issue some guidelines - and it looks to me as if this is what we will have to do - unless as I have stated I have missed something Watch this space!!!!
  4. OK - will try to clear up. There is no need for you to put any notice anywhere - or worry about a rider " complaining". Somewhere you will see another post I replied to yesterday about some queries about why riders needed a handbook etc - and not just a basic set of rules. This is a very good example of why. When a rider signs on - he signs to say he acknowledges the event will be run under ACU National Sporting Code, Standing Trials Regs & any Final Instructions etc. In NSC ( included in handbook) 6.12 states that an Observer is an assistant to CC and appointed to judge a competitors performance - NO PROTEST OR APPEAL CAN BE ACCEPTED AGAINST A JUDGMENT MADE BY AN OBSERVER So in simple terms if the Observer decides a benefit was gained by leaning on a tree and gives a one - then one it is - no protest ( complaint) or Appeal can be considered - in other words the Observers judgment is final. Same if he judges a baulk has occured etc. It is a very good example of what I was trying to say somewher else about competitors having book - the Trials regs do not deal with Protest & Appeal procedure - it is all in NSC which is part of the ever thickening handbook. Of course riders ( or us for that matter) may not ead it that often - but they have it
  5. Apologies - trialsolder timer you are quite correct. 2008 TSR22 Definitions - ------- Footing - any part of riders body or machine ( with exception of tyres/sump guard) 2009 TSR 22 Definitions ---------Footing any part of riders body touches the ground or the rider benefits ----- In the 2009 book - the words or any part of machine ( and the bit in brackets re sump/tyres) have vanished! It is what is technically known as a balls up - and unless I have missed something I will now try to establish why. The bit about leaning and gaining benefit or not gaining benefit will of course still apply - but the bit about the machine should be there as far as I can work out. Only good part for me is that people are obviously reading the book !
  6. Yes - Indoor rules are completely different. You probably also saw last Saturday how many times a few riders failed on one particular section - and then rolled completely back to start ( without footing) and then started again ! I think however in all cases the result was the same however many times they tried - failure!
  7. I like the last idea - but have never tried it - makes you wonder why not done in manufacture?
  8. I have covered this many times before - so will not go over it all again. The only valid point some of you are making is that dupication ( getting more than 1 book is a waste) and that is true - but there will always be hiccups , especiallty when sent out by outside contractors etc - but - if it apears to be a major problem, rather than a fairly small number , then this needs to be looked at. But it is the numbers that are important. Not really a lot of good spending for example
  9. Best would be to slightly move inner spacer sideways - which will allow you to get at and tap rear of bearing - but I suspect you have struggled with this? Try this - Purchase a rawlbolt from your local DIY - which just fits inside bearing. Insert into bearing and tighten up very tight. With small blowlamp heat round bearing housing ( not too much!!) - then tap from other side with your drift hitting against end of rawlplug you have inserted .
  10. My concern would not be about bike Scopra - that;s up to you - but can I ask has your l;ad now entered Round 1 - Scarborough?
  11. Sound easy does it not? But the truth of matter is that everyone wishes to adopt a common system - as long as it is theirs. To illustrate the point I put out a challenge - which could be quite interesting (if not entertaining) through TC all put forward your proposals - and if at end of posts you all come to a consensus of opinion - we will see what can be achieved - but please be aware that this means more than just one or two - it means quite a few of the regulars who post being in agreement
  12. I think we may be worrying about a hypothetical case
  13. Scorpa F - |You make several points and I will try in limited space to answer them I must point out at the start however that it is not possible to analyse and dissect all decisions made throughout the year - and additionally we hold a Brit Champ organisers meeting to which all Organisers, Importers ( who support quite a few
  14. I think you will find you have an early motor here - and certainly the club foot rear silencor will not belong etc ( may hit shock when you try to fit) As far as seals are concerned. When you strip - if early motor it will only have 1 single type oil seal in each seal carrier - so just replace with a new one each side. If it was a more modern motor the Bultaco original is a double lip affair on both sides and two single seasls - back to back are your best option.
  15. Some excellent posts guys - and the one from Tayld one of the best I have read on the subject in a very long time.
  16. Billy The licence Dept now works very well - usually a day or to is all that is needed. If you contact me with your name & contact address - within next hour if possible I will get on the case - I obviously cannot phone in with the TC name My contact details are all in ACU handbook - or if you are in work - phone T & E Secretaries 01788 566 409 and tell them to send your info to me asap
  17. I would like from the T & E to echo the thanks Pitley has mentioned as far as Normandale are concerned. For 2009 I am going to try to always refer to this series as the Normandale Traditional - and I have asked press to give more mention of title - perhaps we can all try to do same?
  18. Guys Please do not too carried away with this - especially on the subject of time in a section. Those who are afraid that a rider can take the pi.. and stay in a section all day , are ignoring the fact that for years and years , once a rider had a 1 - which is quite likely for most of us - they could still have sat there all day for no further penalty? It did not happen. Personally, while I realise that most organisers will not bother to introduce a time limit on a section , I think that eventually they will. I observe in our British Champ each year - and I regard myself as an old fart with poor eyesight and little patience, and certainly not as good as most observers out there. I can honestly state however that pressing a button on an automatic clock at the same time as I blow a plastic whistle as I see the rider enter the section has not been that great a challenge. Equally - I take no notice of the clock until a hear the buzzer sound - and if rider is still in section - he gets a five. It really is not a problem. For British Champ the time is 1 min 30sec - and it does take a few seconds to reset clock - but if you use 1 minute - which is quite sufficient for normal trials - the reset is simplicity itself - i.e press a button. So - what I say - is keep an open mind - I think you may be surprised how some Observers find the rules far less taxing ( no judgement needed about a pause and so on ) My Centre and Club are not going to initially time sections - but I hope to run one trial later in the year and use the clocks just to show how simple it really is.
  19. Certainly no-one should have to wait until first round to find out! Details are on ACU Web site and in this weeks TMX All riders who have to register i.e Championship Class and Expert A
  20. Yes - as others have said you need to be fairly carefull in finding which model you use - and do not get too hung up on engine numbers etc - as many seem to be doing with all things Bultaco - as over the years one hell of a lot of Bultaco's have been modified, had different gear clusters fiitted, cranks and top ends etc - I know becuase I have done probably hundreds. The 250 Alpina sometimes found in UK - is often one of a batch that came in - and Sammy Miller had quite a lot to do with them - and sold quite a few.( I think he also turned a few back into normal Sheropa's) To all extent and purpose they looked very similar to the blue 75 Sherpa shown on the front of the Bultaco haynes manual. The tank was larger and there were SOME differences in gear ratio's - but not as great as all that. Many of us at time thought of them as a sort of cross betweem trials and trail - and some of us - at least m- thought they make a basis for an Enduro bike ( I thought wrong). I bought one - and with a few mods rode it in Welsh Two days and a few British Champ Enduro's - but it was very much based on the trials bike than anything else - so excellent in mud/section type parts - but too slow and rather scary when flat out along the tracks - oh - and I stood up for two days! If you have this one - it is easy to use as a trials 0 change the ratios if you wish - I have loads of suitable gears both new and s/hand - although if you just play with sprox a little you will find you can use 1st & 2nd as is . A slimmer tank seat unit will be better as well. The " proper" Alpina - more common to Spain etc is a different beat - and probably left as it is as it will be worth more money in original state
  21. I have no idea where this nonscence started - but there are no plans to ban tubless tyres from Traditional Trials Champ
