  1. PHB puts in bold IF ITS NOT BROKEN DONT FIX IT (ACU) I will try to answer: I am afraid it is rather broke
  2. It depends really on how much play you are talking about There is a tendency for the frames to
  3. On that model there is a seal on the end of the gear The shaft has two needle roller bearings on it, and these run inside the sleeve gear
  4. You do not say what year the bike is? If you post this may be able to advise
  5. Hi The brake pedal is held on with a small splint pin that goes through a hole on post Your best option is to get bar turned down to fit your brake pedal with easy turning
  6. Hi - I often seem to answer questions - thought it may be time to pose one? I am sure I have seen a post on TC about paint for plastic, I mean mudguards etc on a modern bike I have also seen some pictures of a few special bikes which have been customised with various colour schemes - but I just cannot find the info now I mean a paint that will stick on and stay on , and I ahve seen a few products advertised, but they all seem to be based in USA. I also recall that a plasticiser needs to be added to paint such as acrylic, but again I have no details. If anyone has had reasonable sucess, perhapos they can offer up some info
  7. Yes - The Clymer manuel I find is excellent for pictures of engine strip etc - but probably when they came to list oil viscosity they may have used that suitable for Spain and USA etc where it is inevitable hot. In UK - it is obviously colder ( especially here in Wales today !) The thinner Aut Trans oil will cause far lesst drag abnd so on. I must admit all those years ago when I forst saw it I thought it looked too thin - but more years than I care to remember using it in MX , Enduro and Trials has caused no problems, and little clutch drag. Equally I tend to stick with 90 in g/box - although I do know others who have gone thinner without any problems - but I like to be safe on that one
  8. No problem - do what you find works The idea of using the colours all the way through is one I have ridden - and yes it does work well - but as you say does use more markers At end of it all , use whatever you have all found to work for the organisers and riders, but as I stated at outset, this is a start to try to achieve some sort of norm
  9. Did not really wish to pop back i;nto this one, as there are some interesting points being made Howvere I think now the severity is being mentioned in relation to colour of course - I perhaps should point out that perhaps trhe problem is that many have actually not yest seen the 2011 rules ( and I just konew I am goiung to regret saying that!) I paste the part below - and there is a new bit about severity and section marking etc TSR18 OBSERVED SECTIONS Th e organiser must announce which route each class is riding and the corresponding colours of the corresponding route marking. Details may be displayed at signing on, at the fi rst section or contained in the Final Instructions or programme . Riders in the same class must all start at the same section It is recommended that routes be marked as follows:
  10. I think that's a very valid point - and we will certainly put it on file Of course with A's riding the B course it is no extra work for Organiser - but as there is no C course available , it would have to be marked - so as you say - some more work - but perhaps the possibility of just marking an alternative route in some of the harder B sections may work - I do agree the jump from 80cc sections to those most likely to be tackeld with a 125 is a big step We will look at it and discuss in the future
  11. I am a little confused with any concern about this There have been lots of letters and comments over the years ( including on TC if memory serves me correct) - that we need some standardisation etc Some time ago we wrote to all Centres and tried to determine what was being used, therefore one would assume that this also filtered down to Clubs
  12. I have not seen the written word that may have caused this confusion - and it looks like there was an error - The correct info will be sent out asap Here are actual facts Route A - For A Class Riders Route |B - For B Class Riders A Class riders may if they wish ride the B route on a no point basis
  13. The all steel plates are correct I think however you will find the following oils are best: Clutch - 1/2 pt TQF ( Automatic Trans Fluid) Gearbox - 1 pt SAE 90
  14. Guys I have to tell you that while you can shop around a fair but for Insurance, many of the companies have no idea what a trials bike is, and neither do they care. More importantly, if you read the small print, you will very often find that when participating in a Trial your RTA insurance cover is void So, if you do participate in events that have road work in them, it does aseem a little daft to pay your hard earned to companies that do not really want to know you. It took about 5 years of approaching many of them to try to get them to accept that cover would still be valid when travelling on the road - say between sections or stages - and obviously therefore subject to all the normal RTA laws etc. Frankly they did not want to know. Eventually, again after a lot of work and discussion MSM , obtained good cover from a reputable Insurere company , who fully accept exactly what we are about, allows you to tax the bike and so on and so forth, and importantly to me, not try to treat us like a bunch of morons, and just advertise and take our money and then insert a get out cluase if we are in a Trial I have no commercial interests in MSM , The Acu do not get a kick back or commission , but I do feel that they at least provided trials riders with what they need, so - their advert is in ACU Handbook, I would at least suggest you give them a bell and see if they can help - and at least you will get what you pay for.
  15. Some excellent posts , with a whole lot of sensible and valid points made For myself
  16. Ah - now we are talking about some different things - all everyone states about it would have been better for police to do this or that is perfectly true - BUT , that is not the issue - the fact is that the police did what they did - you cannot alter that The argument seems to be that this was out of riders control ie they could not be expected to know they were stopped by police? One could argue that - a rider could invite a stop - ( as someone did some years ago by apparently wheeling up a pavement) - or perhaps less dramatic, by having a poor rear number plate and so on - we do not know the circumstance why the police felt the need to stop them , all we know is that they did. Now - if you are taking the view that if a rider gets "delayed" for reasons outside what you consider their control , it is very difficult to make a distinction between different things. While we are talking about 20 min
  17. Rider A finishes on 29 Ridere B & C are disqualified. The fact that the police stopped them is not actually that different than if they had a puncture and could not fix it in reasonable time, or if something else happened to delay them. One could argue that if the whole entry had some sort of delay eg a farmer denied access across his land and this made everyone take a 10 mile detour - this could be regarded as Force Majeure - and then the Clerk of Course may have to look at things ( amount of time this 10 mile detour should take etc) but three riders being stopped by the police I do not think can fall into this category Tongue in cheek - If you are going on holiday - and flying from Gatwick - and get stuck on M25 - or police pull you in for check and you arriuve at RyanAir desk 5 mins after it closes - will they refund your money?
  18. Guys - I take your point about round too close together - I assume you are talking about Bemrose and Lancs County and Bootle Everyone tells us the latter is an excellent weekend - so that explains that one I am sure the Bemrose is too - and I think that is the date they need ( if I am wrong on this - please send more suitable one asap to Alison at ACU and we will try to change) HOWEVER - I am not sure that if any rider cannot go to either round - or any other for that matter - the drop two rounds criteria should certainly not mean that the year is a waste? With cost of travel and fuel etc we are more than aware of problem - and that is main reason we keep the drop two rounds bit. Finally I can say that since my first days involved with ACU - for both Trials and Enduro trying to arrange 2011 has been the most difficult by a mile - and we accept it is not perfect by a long way - but we can only work with the applications we have - and believe me - several were very late - and often there is just no alternative dates available to the Clubs for all sort of reasons
  19. Just a couple of points that may help you out The 1978 bikes
  20. Not worth the messing about - just keep your finger on the tickler as I described on first start from cold
  21. All exactly as Big John states I think you will find this is the model featured on the front of the haynes Bultaco manual One tip - they can be a pig to start - you need to really hold tickler down and waste a bit of fuel - and as soon as it starts up - hold tickler down for a few seconds more - after this all will be OK
  22. Just a quick one - as you do not give year? If it is what I call the square bowl Amal - fitted 75 on - just check the overflow pipes coming from each side. They are joined from side to side as standard BUT there is a slit in the tube - which in effect means they are two separate tubes with open ends. Sometimes people see the split and fit a new piece of pipe - if you have done this just cut pipe in half with a scissors and try bike
  23. Hi James Just go onto ACU Web site ( I just oogle ACU and there it is about 2 down) On left hand side - under Resources - Click on Licenec & Forms Click on TRIAL REGISTRATION Uop should come 1 A4 sheet - Blue form - fairly simple Print off and fill in - send in to ACU - or many ( most?) Clubs will accept them on the day/evening of event - and you can join that Club at same time - if you need to. Cost is
  24. Yes 300cc is correct - TQF is best Make sure breather pipe is long enough to wedge in between fins - between head and top cylinder All Bultaco with solid sump plates were alloy or alloy based - steel was only on the mesh type sump plates up to & inc 78
