  1. Oh yeah, my school always closed for the worst bits of winter because the outside loos always froze solid, lol
  2. Rubbish, I remember in early '80s my Dad being the only thing moving when driving my Mum's Mini van home one night. We got home and were snowed in for two weeks.
  3. My understanding was they flow better, even from low revs ... happy to be proved wrong though!
  4. Oh yeah, the yokes also raised the handlebar mounts 1" and allowed me to use fatbars BTW
  5. I built my TY for proper competition use, despite being a heavy and unskilled rider. It's a joy to use. Going full Majesty with the frame makes sense if you can afford it, or just tidy it up and make the changes to the original frame (which is what I did - heavier, but behaves the same) - moved the shock mounts, removed the oil tank mounts, added gussets, tidied the steering stops, removed the forward peg mounts, lengthened the swingarm. Bolt-on relocated footpegs are fine, but you need to tweak the brake pedal to match otherwise it's unusable. The skinny front forks can totally work, chuck in Magicals springs and then play with oil weight and the spacers to tune it to the rider (mines pretty much spot on with 10w oil and the stock spacers). A set of decent shocks at the back should balance the front out nicely, their specs will vary depending on where you put the shock mounts. I invested in yokes that steepen the fork angle too, this makes it tiring for trail riding (too twitchy at speed) but super for trials. Also, a stainless downpipe and Wes exhaust saved a LOT of weight. Bone stock my TY was 84Kg, now it's around 80 despite adding material to the frame. I have 12/51 gearing IIRC, and do 95% of my riding in 2nd gear. It works well, but I'm thinking of going to a flat slide carb to go with my new big airbox for more low end torque
  6. Oh yeah, I do premix 50:1 in my TY ... last time I used an oil pump was on a DT100 I had in the late '80s, and it was crap.
  7. It's just neoprene (wetsuit material), as used on modern dirt bikes ... I have some on my XR, they just wrinkle up when the forks compressed
  8. +1 Forma Boulders, provided you don't need waterproof boots and that you give them a lot of dubbin the first few times of wearing.
  9. " Self-Catering package based on 4 people sharing. " Does that mean that the cost covers four people's accomodation sharing a room, or one person sharing with 3 other entrants in a hostel type arrangement? If I wanted to just go and watch, could I get a travel and accomodation package on it's own? (It looks reasonable, I'm guessing block booking on your part leads to a bit of a discount)
  10. Oh, yes, I meant 1 o'clock ... that was a typo, lol It's noticeably further up than in the photo, anyway
  11. It doesn't stick out much, I've not noticeably caught it so far
  12. Same here, though I got my lever at about the 11 o'clock position (with the hope that it might reduce the chance of putting a hole in the engine again, lol)
  13. If the opportunity arises I'll take a photo for you this afternoon
  14. That's how my 349 is, it was a bit of a struggle to get it on but feels like the right amount of pressure on the bike (I had a new spring with a new kickstart lever from InMotion, the old one was pretty sloppy in comparison)
  15. Mine was cracked both sides (!) ... replaced with thick gussets while my mate was Majesty-fying the frame for me, should be fine now (he also added slim gussets where the old shock mounts were, and a reinforcing strip above the new shock mounts)
  16. Not unreasonable, GGs are good though a 280 is going to be a right handful for a newer rider ... a 250 one would give more gentle power delivery. After 30 years of riding motorbikes (and trail mountain biking, road cycling, etc etc) I got a 125 Gasgas and it was plenty
  17. Thing is, if the chain is covered in mud it'll also be full of water and grit already, with a nice coating to keep it locked in there (unless it's an o-ring one). Might as well get the unknown off/out, then you know you've only got water in there, and wipe and WD40 it.
  18. To actively say you don't like wearing protective gear. While making jumps in a dangerous environment. When other competitors are taking precautions. That is foolhardy.
  19. My Vauxhall is at 220000 miles on it's original gearbox, so I'll take that with a pinch of salt
  20. I have a 12v water pump that runs off a cigarette lighter socket, and a couple of 10L water bottles. It's ok for getting watery mud off, but not much use for clay ... haven't used it much so far, lol It was £20 from a famous auction website ...
  21. After jet washing I usually wipe down with a microfibre cloth, and spray light oil (usually GT85) on all the exposed bits; carb, forks, shocks, etc. When I had the Gasgas I'd pop the air filter out too, both to clean it and to let the airbox dry, but the TY seems happy without that
  22. It was a manufacturing defect with that specific part
