sounds like a fuel problem. Is the float sticking
  4. Compressing the spring isn't the promlem. Removing the spring is the issue. Still not had any success and have asked several people
  5. Order one from the UK Shipping to the US will not be more than
  6. If your TY350 has a metal tank fuel caps are still available from Yamaha for around
  7. I need to remove the spring from my rear shock - TY250R Mono (the one with the remote reservoir). The spring can only move an inch or so up the body when the collar is removed due to the lug for the reservoir hose. I assume the base of the shock must come apart somehow but cant see an obvious way to do it other than trying to clamp the damper rod and unscrew it, but theres hardly any room as the spring is in the way. Anyone done this before ??
  8. I've got a promonty stainless on one of my ty's - runs much better - nice ands smooth - sounds good too.
  9. Just done my first ever observed trial. The TY Mono ran perfectly - not quite as perfect for the rider. Cleaned a few 5'd a few, fell off a few times but definately got more confident as the day progressed. Anyone in the Lincs area interested in having a go - The East Lincs trials club is very relaxed and novice friendly. Contact Pete at Wildmans Motorcycles in Spilsby for more details. Only took me 43 years to give it a go and cant wait for the next one. Thanks to Pete for making it a novice friendly event.
  10. As far as I am aware all you need for the MOT is a continuous tone horn and a reflector on number plate (sticky on one is OK) Any lights that are on the bike need to work (not sure if you can tape them out). To be road legal you also need a speedo (not an MOT requirement). Always best to make sure your MOT tester is au fait with competition bikes. I had XT250 that got an MOT with no lights at all and a battery operated horn. I used a cheap mountain bike speedo from Halfords that cost around a tenner. Hope this helps
  11. Google Motori Minarelli - italian company been going for ages - could be quite a collectable bike
  12. Whats the best paint stripper available at a reasonble price? Cheers
  13. I think you will really struggle to get two bike in a combo due to the lenght of the rear area. I used to have one and could get my TY mono in but it had to be accross the diagonal of the van.
  14. They are available from France Trial Classic for around 20 euros try this link http://www.francetrialclassic.com/uk/famille/23/11.html cheers
  15. I'm trying to remove a very stubborn flywheel from a TY mono . A previous owner appears to have destroyed the threads on the flywheel so the puller is useless. I've gently beaten it with a rubber mallet, had the heat gun on it, applied copious amount of WD40 but still no joy. Any magic tricks I'm not aware of. My only current solution is to weld the puller to the flywheel but obviously this will wreck the puller - the flywheel is already destined for the bin due to the lack of threads. The bottom end of the motor is scrap and the cases are not too good so big hammer tactics are quite acceptable - I only want to rescue the ignition system from this side of the lump.
  16. Does anyone out there know whether the TYZ shares the same shocker as late model monos - remote and adjustable reservoir, Cheers
  17. Re TY Mono Tank Covers I'm trying to get some new ones made (no graphics) using mine as a pattern - if anyone is interested let me know and I will get a price for a job lot. Chers
  18. I had a brass sleeve made for a ty mono, and have seen nylon ones used before. I would have thought any decent engineering shop should be able to sort it out for you.
  19. You could use a TY250 Mono front end with either a Pinly set up (genuine Yamaha - disc only) or an aftermarket (J Shirt or Talon - uses standad front drum brake fork sliders) which would also give you the option of using a mono front brake front wheel. To be honest the second option would be best as I think you would be unable to compete in twinshock events with a later disc brake set up. The mono drum brake front end id a very popular converion. Having said that if theres nothing wrong with your existing set up I cant really see the point.
  20. There are loads of early monos (red frame gold wheels) for around
  21. Your vehicle ( in this case a bike) must have a valid MOT and Insurance which are both in date at the time a tax disc becomes current. So for example if your tax and MOT both expire at the end of January you cannot get a new tax disc midway through January (which becomes valid on 1st Feb) without a new MOT as you will not have a valid MOT at the time the tax becomes active. So to summarise you need to get your bike Mot'd before you can get a new tax disc. If you go down the SORN route and then retax the bike before its 3 years old you will still have to MOT it to be able to legally ride it on the road. I'm pretty sure your insurance will be void if the bike is not MOT'd and you were involved in an accident.
  22. One on e-bay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-ty250-cdi_W0Q...=item2304c077a0 I'm not the seller - just thought it may help.
