Dont usually torque any of those, dont go mental with tightening you should get a feeling if its tight .Use a four foot long bar and you will strip the threads on everything, just check all the bolts when you go out on the bike every time. Rear disc bolts come loose on Betas every ride nearly, small exhaust bolts next to the kick start and sometimes the sprocket. Worth giving the fork clamps a good turn but stop well before your head goes red!!!! Could easily strip the brake bolts but they need to be pretty well on as well as the swingarm bolt,

Thanks carl, not to bothered about better pick up at all but I am sure it will aid taking the carb off and replacing it especially. No problems with doing it then from your friend? and assume the reed block will not interfere with the barrell intake.Should give about 3-4mm more room for the inlet to go on which is all it needs I think, the amount of times this mikuni is of and on my beta for cleaning and adjusting I need all the help I can get. Rob, going to try this weekend and will post the results, I know it works as my mate has done it before. Have you swapped the carb intake hose around yet, ie makes putting the carb back on easier as the hole is larger. I dont have any trouble getting the carb off, its getting it back on is tight. Usually completely remove the jubilee clips when taking off and putting back on.

Tiler, only way I can stop the carb flooding when switched off is to knock the fuel off and switch back on after restarting, bloody pain but its the only way. Have forgot to do so a few times and lucky it has nt run out half way up a step yet? but early days!!! My mate bought a new Mukuni after his ran like ****e and it was fine, I think the real problem is the tollerences between each carb is so great some are just cr5p, we have the cr5p ones. Only reason I have nt bought the Dellorto is the set up time, I really dont want to spend the next 2 months getting it jetted right to ride, I just want to ride. <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> trials do the Beta Dellorto

Pretty sure you need a licance to ride mate. You may get away with the 33 hp law with your bike but not 100% sure. If your old enough do the direct access route so you can ride any capacity bike, if not the limited hp licence may apply to trials bikes as they cant be kicking out much more than 33. Direct access is pretty easy unless thay have changed the law again, did the whole thing start to finish in 5 weeks.

Agree with Simon, "Never trialled" is a lot worse than trialled regulary. Bike will have almost certainly been thraped to an inch of its life around a field. Seller has no idea of what hes bought I think which reflects in the price and the different ages of the parts, if I was buying second hand last bike I would but would be a never trialled one.

Cheers Barry, Yer its a shame, had 4 Betas so far 01-03-04 and 06, all have been spot on especially the 04 but not this one. I work bl***y hard and my spare time is limited, last thing I want to do is to be pulling a new bike apart in the middle of a quarry when I should be riding it, can easily be doing that with a Gasser which rides better. Two of my mates have 06's and although not as bad as mine thay have had problems with carbs and general build quality. We're not stupid when it comes to spanner work either so this isnt a lack of maintenance or not sure what we're doing, popped a plug yesterday? not sure why but a new one got it running well again thankfully

As you have read I have had a nightmare with my carb as well, flooding poor running etc etc from new. Very nearly sold the bike 2 weeks ago due to it. I have set the tangs at 4mm from level and dropped the needle one notch to lean the fuel. Standard pilot and main jet 30 and 150. Now using 100% optimax and 70ml of repsol in 5 litres. air screw is between 2 to 2 and a half turns out. Try those settings, and also running a bpr5es plug. Yer the top lads use Mikuni but I bet they are not the standard ones we all have to put up with, blueprinted more than likely and the best from the batch. Bike still p*****ng fuel out and have to switch the fuel off when stopped else it wont start. Can live with that for the time being as the bike is actually running well in the past 2 weeks although still pinking at flat out up hill. The dellorto will need lots of setting up but I will change if I have any more problems from the Standard Beta junk BVM Moto and Lampkins do the extra float bowl mod, think thay are about

Hi Phil, Its a great sport, you will enjoy it loads. Dont rush into buying the first bike that comes along if your buying second hand, should be lots of posts on here on bikes and there pros and cons. Join a club as quick as possible and go along even if you dont compete to start with. Always best to ride with someone else, more the merrier I have found, we all have a great laugh competing and practicing. Good Luck Just

Mate of mine took it out on an 04 rev 3 to sharpen the pick up, thinking of having a try mainly to ease putting the carb back in. Any one tried it before and is there a noticable change in throttle pick up

Jonny, yer your probably right OTT, but I do enjoy the maintenance side of bikes, also nice to go out knowing the bike is all done 100%

Hi Rob, I usually do the gear oil every fornight, maybe over the top but its quite important. Dont keep filters that long either just stick a new one in every month and clean it every ride. Fork oil should nt need doing to often unless they start feeling like they need refreshing. I Strip the bike down every ride as well, usually wheels out, shocker, carb air box plug ,throttle, levers footpegs and give them a good clean and grease up.

Make sure you dont go busting in to the sections once the bike is warm, do 15 mins easy stuff to let the muscles warm up a bit. Make sure you drink loads all day, before during and after even if you dont feel thirsty. Not sure what supplements you can take but there may be a few about. If this is the only exercise you do all week think about doing something like a half hour jog in the evening or morning anything to get the body used to working better. Sure you will ache if you arnt used to it, but you should get less aches as time goes on. hopefully!!!!

Been wondering after buying some new plugs what everyone else pays for theirs? seems to be big differences in prices shop to shop. I buy NGK BPR5ES plugs the Rev 3, what do other Beta riders pay for them
