No worries, just let me know whenever you are ready and if you need any advice just ask and i'll help if possible.
P.S. There's a good trial on at Grimehills this Saturday with Bolton MCC . It's only the other side of Edgworth, so it's not to far. Maybe we'll see you there

If you put to much two stroke oil in your petrol, you are in fact making the mixture to weak and therefore it will run hot . My offer of a flywheel puller to check the timing is still on offer if needed

I have a flywheel puller and live local to you , so if you want to post me a mobile number or similar i'll call round and have a look if you want

Thanks for your input guys, on the face of it , it seems to be a good idea to change to a beta 200. The 3 local clubs that I ride with tend to set sections out fairly easy on the basis that if you want to do a harder section , just go up to a harder course ( normally 4 courses ) and I don't get many problems with altitude where I live in Gods little acre of Lancashire !!
Regards and thanks for your time

I am thinking about trading in my 2002 250 Sherco. I am 52 years old, the wrong side of 13 stone and to be honest it's getting a bit heavy to be haulin' out of the mud. so i've narrowed it down to possibly trading it in for a 200 Beta. Has anybody done this ?
Does anybody know if these are underpowered in any way ( I don't want to have to ride it like a teenager on a 125 , wind it on , drop the clutch and hang on !) Would it be a lot lighter than the Sherco and easier to ride ?
Any advice would be of use so if anybody about the same age has done anything like this please let me know of your opinion . By the way, I only really ride the easy course . I've never been able to do that hopping and bopping , so I leave that to my son !!!

neither WD40 or soap and water should be used to mount a tyre . WD40 because its an oil and will rot the rubber and soap has salt in it and will also rot the rubber . Tyre bead soap should be used , but as an alternative , spray furniture polish ( Mr Sheen etc.) is quite good and also a tyre should go on without the use of levers . When I was a tyre fitter , we used to put tyres on earth movers with a 28lb sledgehammer !!!

If you live anywhere near me ( Bury , Lanacshire ) I will gladly show you how to service a dellorto carb . I've got a sherco with the same carb and as anybody whos had a sherco will tell you , if it sees water , the carb has to be serviced !!

I have read with interest the above explanation and although I fully accept it to be a true account of the regulations , I simply am amazed that the health and safety gestapo have such a say in somebody OWNING a piece of land which could be used , for the day, for practice sessions with a trials bike.
How did it ever get to this ?
You cannot make an extreme sport , such as trials, rock climbing , hang gliding tiddly winks etc. fully safe and a certain amount of responsibility should be given to the person doing the extreme sport to allow him to put himself at risk if he so wishes .
These people that make up these regulations will drive home in a car that only gets examined once a year , if its over three years old,and no doubt will eat there tea with a sharp implement without so much as thinking about it but, mention a off road motor bike and you would think the world might end and I need protecting from this evil hobby I have chosen to do !!!!
THEY MAKE MY BLOOD BOIL ARGGGGGGHHHHHH
I'll get off my soapbox now and go back to bed

Before you start looking for complicated things , just check that the twist grip isn't catching the end of the handle bar and making it stick open . Honestly , it wouldn't be the first time i've seen this happen !!

Just a suggestion , but why don't you try cowm quarry at whitworth ( www.cowmleisure.com) . You will get accomodation locally and I would be very surprised if John Whittle ( Proprieter ) wouldn't open up for you

First thing I would look at are the dog bone bearings and swing arm bearings . If they have not been maintained with grease they will be loose.

Hiya Mark,
OK now providing you have cleaned out the carb and its jets to remove any garbage that shouldn't be there ( preferably with an air line ) and its still got the original jets ( I believe should be 45 pilot jet and 122 main jet ) the factory setting for the air screw is 5/8 of a turn out . Now of course don't for get to check the overflow pipe again for catching because it will move back again to cause a problem when you take off the float bowl !!
Regards the float height , I got all the information I needed of the Kehein website . Be very slight with the floats it does make a lot of difference !!
Let me know how you get on , they are a cracking bike as well !!

Sound like the needle valve to me . Had a similar problem on my 250 sherco , changed the needle valve and it was cured . Happy days !!!

Just a thought but is it not hitting the rev limiter ?

Did you ever get your boots back ?

If it's any kind of consolation , I also left a pair of worn once sidi trials boots at cowm quarry , and they were returned . So keep the faith , there are some honest people about !

When my son got his cabby we had this problem to the extent that it was going to get sold , IT DROVE ME MAD , I eventually found the problem .First of all , check the float height ( I can't put a link on because I don't know how to , but I'm sure somebody will ) then carefully put the float bowl upto the carb and if you look into the gap between carb and float bowl , you will see that the floats catch the overflow pipe , therefore stopping the floats from rising up to stop the fuel. I gently pushed the overflow pipe to the side to allow it to position itself between the floats . Everytime the floatbowl is removed the same thing needs to be done to the overflow pipe . It doesn't need to be moved much to work , so be gentle . It is a bit trial and error but I think that will be your problem.
Hope This Helps

Rochdale club had a trial planned there tomorrow , but it has been postponed because of the weather. I don't know if the quarry itself is open but if you ring John Whittle tomorrow , 07970101879 , he's the guy that runs it , he will tell you the answer .

I bought the pants and shirt , then later on got the gloves . They have been used every weekend for about at least three years , washed every monday ready for the abuse at the weekend and to be honest I can't fault them at all . The gloves have developed a split where the elasticated band joins the palm because of pulling them on so I now need a new pair and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anybody . The pants and shirt still look new when they are clean , what more can I say , brilliant really .

Doh ! Did'nt think of that , never mind back to the drawing board
I normally get funny looks when I give them too !

We keep getting the statement about riders argueing with observers , well thats easy to sort out . Make it that nobody is allowed to see the results untill the results are published and that includes asking the observer ! To be honest when i've observed at local trials , to get a correct score all I have to do is ask the rider what he thinks he got and plus it by at least one point !

A similar thing happened to my sons sherco after catching the gear lever on a rock in a section. It turned out to be the gear selector that is , if I remember correctly , situated behind the clutch basket . It is shaped like a letter ' C ' and what happened was the tip on one side at the end of the letter ' C ' , that turns the selector , broke off therefore only allowing the selector to change up but not down or vice versa whichever side broke off . It was a while ago when this happened so the mechanical side of the story may be slightly wrong but the repair , as I vaguely remember , was straight forward and quite easy as I recall .
Hope This Helps
