    I`d sure be thinking the main bearings are trashed at this point. Make sure you grab the flywheel and feel for any play. At least you are getting to the source of your problem.

    The 38v just relates to part number. Yamaha does not change the castings when the same part is used.

    I would think the reverse of how it came apart. The holder on first (with out the seals, the fork tube, then install the seals with a plastic tube for a driver. Remember that the top nut only needs to be barely snug as the o-ring does the rest. I could always tell if someone had been in a set of forks that I had worked on before, since I left them hand tight almost.

    Hey Glenn, made the old girl do 4 seven mile loops Saturday. Not bad for a bike that sat almost nine years outside. Had a great time. Our ITSA event is Roswell, NM next month.

    I agree with the one point idea with the old rules. Now one point per section could be three minutes in a hard spot positioning the bike totally wearing yourself out. A 30 point day today could easily be a 70 pt day by old rules.

    Everyone gripes (Or so it seems) at a hard event. Too easy seems not challenging enough. The best events are low scoring, but perfect obstacles for the class. Very hard to get right, but the grins are worth it!

    Seems I just had to pull the plug cap on my son`s a while back. Just had to cut it back to some fresh wire. Fast easy check.

    Just a thought. It sounds like the issue is when hot. I would try your brothers coil again, but give it a good 30 minute ride. Still interesting that your father in law can get it to go. So what ever the problem, is not completely broke. Which makes it very hard to find.

    You have a few things against you. My sons bike is the same for me. He starts it easily, I have to get it all right or it will not go. Try moving the kicker forward one tooth on the shaft. You also need it to be top dead center when you kick it. Our bike started doing this after it got hot when the fan went. I`m assuming we lost some compression and could use a fresh piston and rings. If your bike can be started by someone else, then it is not an electrical problem.

    Just the crank alone should have spun fairly free.

    Do you already have the clutch (primary gear) in place? And why the rebuild in the first place? Just trying to under stand where you are at with this.

    Since chasing all these symptoms have you tried changing to fresh fuel? Bad fuel can make a bike run just like this!

    Bearings in the case first? Bearings have to be on the shaft all the way and centered.

    Also do you have the transmission in neutral?

    Crank and trans two different issues.

    You do not have the crank pressed all the way on the bearing/and or centered. You might get by with a couple of well placed hits with a mallet on the end of the crank. Do not screw up the threads in haste.
