  1. Thanks Stu, They look fantastic bits of kit! hope to see one in the flesh oneday?
  2. Looking in issue two of classic bike i saw weve interest the trial in provence where some riders were using Motobecane trials bikes! Charles coutard won the event no less on one, Now these look real beautys! anyone know more about these bikes? i'd guess they'd go in the pre 65? catogery as surley C. Coutard being a former works bultaco star would be using a seventies bultaco! like the bike he done so well on in that era? also read weve interest that someone in France actually makes/ puts together these bikes much in the same way as the beamish/ majesty operations were in the 70/80's anyone rode one of these bikes?
  3. you can always tell the ty125 from the 175 if they've still got the std silencer on! by the shape of it ! the 125 is a funny angler shape, though still oval if that makes sense!!! topped off with a peashooter type end poss 4" long? i can remember back in 82/83 yamaha brought a ltd batch of ty125's these were fitted weve battery / ign switch and indicators? i think they were unloaded to the uk in readiness for the 125 uk learner law introduced at the time and road registered/fitted with full lights etc! these models were reconised by the last ty tank decals ie two thin red and blue lines swooping around from the filler cap! sorry haven't got any pics, a very poplar bike in France!!!
  4. Mine was taken off one bike for the reason and the other was destroyed in a fire . Put it onto my (running) restoration project bike (laid up since 1985) and tried to start it, took the box off et voila! A runner was mine due to taking the horrible box off. I wonder if thats whats wrong weve my m80 , ie poor starting/ running very woolly? its fitted weve the boomerang type silencer? to much back pressure??? anyway does anyone here ride bikes weve left and right sided rear brakes? im going to have to swap bikes now and again? ie the majesty to this M80 can it be done? i aint no Mick Andrews! Mark, Cant bring up the pic's of your M80?
  5. Just wonderd if anyone going to the show sat, was manning stands or showing there bikes? if so perhaps we could meet up and have a chat? put a face to all you guys that post on here? p.s i wont be showing any of my bikes as there not that good! maybe next year?
  6. Hi, It depends what bike your into classic or modern? If your into modern stuff i'd go for a 200 or a 250 at the most to start with? beta 200/250 or scorpa are two good models that are good starter bikes, Stay away from the larger bikes ie 270/290cc as these really are for more experianced riders/ experts! buy a copy of trials and motorcross news and take a look at the regs find a club local to you and enter the novice /easy route! as for bike transport i'd always go for a van to transport the bike about mostly for security reasons! but if you go for a trailer go for a purpose built one! forget homemade types there nearly always a waste of time/money! hope this helps?
  7. cheers woody! good luck with the ossa! never had to split one yet! but once youve done it a couple of times it will be a breeze! pity they dont come apart like a TY!
  8. Thanks big john, your proberly right on this as i cant see a few cracks in the inlet gasket/carb airbox hose could affect it that much! the revs go a bit wild with not much reponse from the throttle plus it takes a few kicks to get it going! can i change the mag side seal without splitting the c/cases?
  9. Yes thats right! Im going to sell something off to make way for this spanish beauty!
  10. Thanks for the pics! but what of the large front brake keep it or fit the std one. Like i said ive got the original wheel minus brake hub! also should i keep the rear silencer on it ? proberly best to keep the noise down! may have a word with dave at bultaco uk about a front hub or look for one at the malvern show on sat!
  11. ok the frame is B80-002837 engine M80 -002838 keep the replies coming lads as im not so clued up on the early spanish stuff! didnt know the alloy REAR silencer was a SM one ? on the above info is this a model 80 slimline? 1971? and should i keep the big hub or revert back to the smaller std type? also gonna try to get used to that left side brake!!!
  12. Ok guys I've taken the plunge and bought a early bultaco, as far as I know its a 71 (k reg) but it needs setting up correctly, it starts but its woolly! as in the revs are all over the place! It seems like air is entering somewhere. The inlet manifold rubber and the airfilter hose has got some splits in them? so these will need replacing for a start! An amal carb 627 type L428 is fitted and looks quite a new one! Is this the correct carb? whats the correct spark plug and ign timing? Also I've included some pics as the front brake is much bigger than standard it looks like a mk1 cota front wheel? what do you think? I've had a m80 front wheel in the garage for ages (lucky I didn't throw it away!) but I need the front brake hub. and when side by side the wheel that's fitted to the bike is much larger and a later model clutch cover has been fitted at some stage? Thanks in advance guys!
  13. Take a look at this, item number 220077682406 I first thought it was a bsa bamtan engine shoehorned into a beamish frame!!! it dont look right to me? what do you all think? perhaps it was purpose built? who knows?
  14. STOP PRESS!!! Not sure i can make this as 1, the pe175 needs a full engine rebuild! 2, the pe also needs new rear shocks (as there knackered!) 3, rough cost of both
  15. Ok guys , Now ive decided to keep the o'll girls ive set about sorting one out! first problem is the exhaust thread is badly damaged ie stripped! how can i restore this? i dont think you can get a helicoil this big! I think there might be a steel threaded insert for sale on the net! but i assume this is inserted by heating the exhaust port and then pressing it in! but surely when the bikes started up and the exhaust port gets hot wouldn't the insert move about? any ideas on this chaps as the barrell /piston/head are mint! Apart from some idiots handy work tightening the ****** exhaust ring to tight!!!
  16. Anyone doing it? Sent off for a form but my PE175 needs complete top end! poss whole engine (noisey as hell) plus some decent rear shocks plus fork seals so proberly looking at around
  17. Thanks for the replies guys, Ive decided to strip and restore the rough one (hence i can put the frame etc in the attic!) also im going to splash out on a good (secure!) shed and leave the good one in it and when winter comes ill squeese it into the garage! when i get the good one sorted it will be used in anger! the rough ossa was the one i had when i was 15 so holds loads of happy memories riding it! by the way if you get the lastest classic dirtbike youll see both my majesty and beamish in a shoot out with old magical, mick andrews himself riding them! ( they certainly got well used that day! )
  18. The reason i posted this topic is because i have two ossa mars both 76 models one runs , rough but 100% original the others getting on for excellent condition inc a side ign cover /lugs that is in perfect condition (but need to get running) but im running out of room as already have the maj/beamish/pe/it/kt. so bearing in mind the above will proberly not going to be worth a lot i will proberly stick them on ebay!
  19. What twinshock in your opinion will be worth the most in five years time? I'd say of the big three , The Ossa mar should in theory be worth the most as they were the least sold! so would that make them more sought after?
  20. I know theres been a lot of praise for the above bike inc pinky! but what are your veiws on this model heading for future classic status , and will they ever really be worth everything? bearing in mind there is still lots of them about?
  21. Ok guys i starting a new thread here on the best looking trials bike ever made! and im gonna have to back track here a bit when i said an ossa mar , heres my top five! 1, kawasaki kt250 (lights included) 2, ossa mar 250 3, late suzuki beamish 4, matchless/ ajs 350 5, greeves tfs whats yours?
  22. What bike is it? if its cdi the spark always looks weak! ie white, if its points ignition it should be a fat blue spark! if your turning the kickstart slowly what do you expect? i would have thought the spark strengh would be at its strongest when the kickstarts kicked over as you would do it when trying to start the bike!
  23. Got to be the yam ty250 mono! ive still got a pinky in the garage!!! Ossa Mar 250 I think was the best looking trials bike ever made! IMHO!!!
