  1. Theres nothing wrong with S.Miller hes a legend in trials riding also a brillient engineer, BUT! when i have ever rang up for parts i get the most unhelpful, cant be bothered!, oh god why did you call me?, the most appalling attitude i have ever encountered on the other end of a phone i have ever experienced!!! if you want a supreb example of how business should be conducted between a seller and a buyer call bultaco uk nothing is to much bother or trouble, the service is excellent!!!
  2. Ive got a yamaha majesty (its the one in classic dirt bike!) by looking at the pics on ebay that one looks like its been modded by someone, But i dont think it was J.Shirt!!! the swinging arm pivot looks to high? also the lower tubes of the subframe have been bent? could be wrong but studying the photos it dont look right to me!
  3. Thanks for the advise, Ive tried tunning the carb airscrew turned right in the bikes runs much better! but its the same when trying to start it ,ie runs for 2-3 seconds then dies!!! then it wont start again unless you leave it for a while. Ill ring dave at bultaco uk and order a mag side crank seal plus mk1 carb gaskets inc manifold! ill let you know of the outcome, Again thanks a lot for all your answers.
  4. I think Pitleys hit the nail on the head!!! twinshock pre 1972 / pre 77 / pre 85 then a specials / modded class! after reading all of the above i still think drum brakes, frame of original manufacter BUT this should include seeleys/majestys/whitehawks etc as they WERE around at the time ,ie 79-85? as for bikes starting to look completly different from original as said previous the twinshocks are starting to take a different shape/form take a look at a majesty fitted with mono (drum brake!) front end! IMHO the bike starts to look like a hybrid with a shorter look from std with leading axle forks!!!! but that said! to there credit the bikes still fitted with a drum brake! im not against people modding there bikes(ive fitted larger footrests to my own bike! plus an alloy silencer) but start altering MAJOR parts and the bike starts to look completly different to when it first rolled out of the factory!
  5. Your right there BJ , Ive smacked me head loads of times on overhanging branches when riding sections! (down south!!!!) thank god i was wearing a crash helmet!!
  6. Nokesy, Its hard to put an exact price on your bike! but if its a real nice on id guess on about
  7. having problems with my 1971 bultaco 250 slimline, It starts but only for 2 or 3 seconds then dies! ive stripped the carb loads of times, the floats ok, jets clear etc! i did jiggle a bit with the carb and got the bike running up and down the road but the tickover seemed high even with the idle screw set right out! ( the throttle cables ok) also the bikes a bitch! to start having to flood the carb lots of times to get it going again? so would this point to worn crankseals??? what are the symtons of worn crankseals? the above? the spark plugs new and theres plenty of compression! ign timing dont know? but when going the bike picked up and rev'ed well! thanks for any replys chaps.
  8. Thanks for the replies! ive had another look and the floats fine and the needle valve shuts off (removed the float bowl and connected the fuel pipe so it could fill up whilst looking at it!) BUT! the float comes up to high, I supose just past horizontal this is where its overflowing! and not shutting off like it should so perhaps like Woody says this might be why sometimes people bend these tangs, Im going to have another go at it if no joy ill buy a new float ,incidently the carb looks quite new as its an Amal made in england? also notice thats theres hell of a lot of play at the needle valve end where it slides into the plastic float tangs ,poss 3mm is this normal as this would affect the height and shut off as and when the float rises and falls? (still cant believe how the bike pulls and goes despite its age! had a 77 350t once and i reckon this m80's got a better engine, much more usable!)
  9. I had a look at the web site! youve done a great job on the bike, well done!
  10. Can see the pics? whats the next project you decided yet?
  11. sorry forgot to add the float bowl gasket is just a paper ring? ie it does not seperate any holes or cutaways in the float bowl area so this proberly wont help with the above problems?
  12. Having problems with my slimline bultaco! at first the carb wouldn't flood (tickle) to start her so ive stripped the carb down and cleaned through all jets/pipes etc! got the carb to flood( the bowl gasket was badly cut and wouldn't allow the float to rise properly!) now got the bike running but theres petrol rising up and coming through the button you push down to flood the carb with, So the float height wrong somehow and allowing the petrol to rise to high? ive had the carb on/off umpteen times and are now starting to get p*****d off trying to set it up correctly its an amal 627 bolt on type! ive set the airscrew 1 1/2 turns out from fully closed as far as i know the float height cannot be altered! anyone know how to set these up correctly as its now driving me nuts! the bikes runs and pulls super for an 1971 bike when it runs! p.s i think the mk1 ossa mar uses the same carb??? thanks in advance lads!
  13. Martin did you get my message? Scotty.
  14. As mentioned on a previous thread when a first got my yamaha ty250r mono it had a front drum brake! then the pinky came out along with a lot of other bikes all with front discs some even with rear discs! one trial i did had a fierce drop followed by a very tight left turn because of the drum brakes on my mono i couldn't scrub enough speed off ( the brakes were set up fine!) to make the sharp turn! So i collected a 5 every time! the other disc brake bikes did not! so yes it does make hell of a difference! on another note martin m's right theres no need to alter twinshock bikes , example M.Andrews had a good try out on my majesty (std brakes and front forks!) and said the bike worked perfect no need to change anything!
  15. Cheers mate, sent mine off.
  16. That bike looks ace mate! wouldn't mind one myself!!! are they only avalible in spain? when you said about fitting spacers to the rear wheel dont you have to do the front as well? dosen't make sense to me, As these bikes were used in world trials did they use wheel spacers then?
  17. Is this the one thats featured in don morleys book going up the waterfall weve the std clubfoot silencer fitted? The vesty bike Dave Renhams looking after i thought was the 1982 bike with the highly modded rear silencer fitted below the airbox? Was there two different bikes being ridden by vesty in 82? more info! anyone know? BJ best to wheel them bikes in under the cover of darkness

    Kt250 Tank

Hi Scotty I have two Kawasaki kt`s , a std and a gollner . The std Kt as you said is nissan micra 97-98 apple candy green but as yet do not know what colour yellow the gollner was ! It has been suggested it was the same as the beamish suzuki ,Renault cad yellow.( unless someone know`s different). YES id go with that! dave at bultaco uk had an original yellow gollner (the best one id ever seen!) and the colour looked the same yellow as the beamish suzukis, regards Nick
  19. How many BLT Plonkers were made? does it work well? whats the value of these bikes now? never seen one in the flesh!
  20. Hi , try trail + trials uk they normally can be found on ebay! under yamaha ty! they will tell you exactly what you need to know, They also do very well priced chain and sprocket kits! like you said forget Iris cheap and nasty! once bitten and all that!!!

    Kt250 Tank

Paul M, Are you doing your bike the original gollner yellow? mine was red with black/white KT stripes! but this colour is not the original for these bikes! if you look on the vintage kawasaki kt250 web site my bike used to be under owners bikes / show us yours type of thing? anyhow the quality of the frame/welding was top notch! same as a whitlock suzuki! but just couldn't get on with the high position of the footrests and as the frame was constructed so beautifully i wouldn't mess with it!!! never took the flywheel weight off! but when in use and trying to loft the front wheel say when clearing a log it was bloody hard work! a bit like the heavy flywheel fitted to the 250 yam majestys! If spraying the tank to the original kt green i took a match from the nissan micra green 1998 its very close to the A2 1977 on, as in candy apple green! the A1 1976 was a flat lime green much like the kx motocrossers!

    Kt250 Tank

Hi, The gollner kt's were modded by adding a great big flywheel weight!!! personally i wouldn't go this way as it makes the bike flat as a fart! best to leave the std kt flywheel intact! as for tanks everyone the world over were looking for kt tanks 4-5 years ago! so will be even rarer now! best bet is to seal the inside of the tank with petseal or flowliner and then take it to a car body shop and ask them to spray it for you. hope the above helps?
  23. I didn't mean to put you off riding on the road with an old enduro! id say 3-5 miles and youll soon be cheesed off with it! the main reasons are, Wild porting! (no power valve to smooth things out!) drum brakes! lights! (what lights!) noisey!!! intake/exhaust!!!! oh yeah always having to watch the front wheel from leaving the ground! (and this is on a 175cc bike!) but great fun plus who else has got one of these in there garage/ town/ city best advise i could give you is pour over loads of pic's of the m/c say on the internet/ old bike mags of completely standard/ re new bikes sold at the time so to get an idea of what they looked like back in the day! (this is important) check carefully if buying on ebay and try to get close up pics of the bike/engine make sure the rear frame loop is present as these sometimes get sawn off! check that its got the correct swingarm, wheels/ forks/ tank etc, etc, etc!!! std exhaust tailpipes are almost impossible to get hold off! just as with old trials bikes everything that can be swapped or up graded will be! again good luck weve your search and let me know when you get something? Nick.
  24. Hello, Theres no way i'd use an aircooled 70's/80's 2-stroke enduro on the road for a 15 mile each way trip as it would be a pain in the a***! stick to a proper scoot or trail bike trust me!!!! prices min
  25. old trials fanatic , youll have hell of a job finding a 199b frame/swing arm!!! ive come across one in the last 5yrs and sold it straight away there was plenty of takers! good luck weve your search!
