  1. And you thought just Pigs and BS flew here!
  2. The '06/'07 say KTM but are different than prior years.
  3. Imagine yourself on an '03 Montesa with a dragging rear brake! And less beer gut!
  4. Keep heels down, weight back, and slip the clutch!
  5. The standard ones for the Sherco and gassers are about 9 1/2 in or 240mm long, which serves their purpose which is to cover the boot scuffing area. The material is very tough and abraison resistant grade 'A' CF. I can easily do a longer one for the Sherco at 300mm, but materals costs increase with little benefit in performance as they are not really for bashing rocks. Of course one that has been bashed by a rock may be better than a swingarm that has been bashed by a rock. Abrasion resistance and impact resistance are two different things. Even longer means greater costs. The ones on the "07 I am working on are about 350mm, but being of less width, the material cost is about the same as 300mm full width. I have been using the 0.5 mm material on the later ones(as compared to 1.0mm), same abrasion resistance, lighter weight, and conforms better to the swingarm irregularities. The 5mil 3M adhesive works well on the full width '06 and prior models as there is plenty of surface area. The '07 is a bit of a challenge as there is less surface area in the critical "boot rub" area, but the plus is that the rough factory finish provides more mechanical "grip" for the adhesive to work. It is the same basic stuff which holds the graphics on the mudguards, which have no grip at all on the plastic, yet they seldome move, even in the worst impact! MC
  6. To bhe honest, I don't like having to make them this way, but as the arm is beveled, that is the only flat surface to work with. It will still do its job in keeping the boot marks off, but I may have to make some to match and replace those factory stickers which are useless!
  7. They are generally a great bike, very smooth yet has good torque and good for a beginner up to whatever! You may have to set the carb as you said! And it can be modded up a bit for more power! I gather you are in the US?$$$$$$ Good ones are scarce!
  8. Some time in the shop today experimenting with the carbon fiber bits for the new one. Need to re shape the point at the reae a bit yet. Then take the laser to it something like this: ur -uh!
  9. If I were you I would stop snorting the stuff and wear your rubbers when washing parts in it! Modern petro products are no longer "gasoline" as it once was, but a blend of hydrocarbon distillates and additives, including alcohol in some places. Bathing in it is not good, nor is sniffing the fumes, but don't get carried away!
  10. Norm, That is the best hopping video I have ever seen, short of some clips of Raga! PATRICK is one cool kid! He has a lot of talent and drive! Ok, Phil, you are cool too, now go kick your brother in the rear! Ha!

    Rear Wheel

Ian, Not sure where you are located, but most cycle shops can build a wheel from scratch, just ask them if they are good at it. The best guys I ever seen at wheels would tell you honestly no problem, or grimace at the thought! Even the push bike guys are normally very good at wheels, and cheap too. Just get a set of spokes and nipples on order, do you have a local dealer?

    Rear Wheel

Ian, They are easily replaced if broken without re-building the wheel, no harder than replacing a tire. If you are not handy, find a club mate who is! That is the easiest way, although he may charge you a few pints!
  13. The compression ratio is near 10:1, cannot recall exact, but that means 140psi or so on the guage would be normal at somewhere near sea level. It has always been easier to "feel" the kickstart lever resistance as compared to a newer bike if you suspect something is wrong. Other things come into play such as piston rattle that may indicate a problem with wear.
  14. Tell the rest of the story, In a recent conversation with a mate of mine, his leaking shock on the Beta was priced at nearly 600 of your quid thingies, ofer 1000 euros or nearly 1200 usd! I'll keep my links and keep the bearings lubed!
  15. The '05 2.5 was my fav of all! The finest of its chromed framed breed! May be softened to suit a novice or the standard rigging will suit most experts! Once again, the Boyesen reeds work wonders as the 2.5 seems to soften up more than a 2.9 making it quite gentle off the bottom. Sweet!
  16. Hannon, now it is time to pay your dues as well, you MOOCH! The Scorpa isa good bike if in good shape! Recommendable, gentle and tunable from novice up! Sound like a cow, a nice cow!
  17. Highly DOMINANT perhaps! Do those whips and chains cost a lot ? Is latex more expensive than a Michelin, Craig?
  18. Chris, Close inspection suggests you may be correct in that there may indeed be two gaskets stacked on this thing already! For fine tuning as you said, I suppose! However, the primary gasket, M 681 appears to be a carryover in the parts book. Now I am really confused!
  19. Put the motor in a box and send it off to MRS, you will be better off than botching it!
  20. One of the locals here got a GG 125 Raga rep, just so he could put the 200 top on it! It is really sweet! I always wished Sherco would produce a full 200 cc bike, the 2.5 in a de tuned and less aggressive mode was the best I have had yet. Still had the big torque too! And even the 2.5 is not popular here, shame!
  21. Try Trialscomp.com, not sure if he has the new ones yet? Try the contact link for the editor to send an e-mail to Shan.
  22. AS, Info on the cyl spacer would be helpful as the part illustration is only for that purpose. I have ordered some parts but yet to recieve them. Logic dictates that with the minimal thickness of the spacers, another gasket would be required to sandwich it properly and seal things off which adds to the total thickness increase. Not too sure if anyone knows (short of Paxau) about this at this point, and I cannot reach him! Hell, I cannot even get MRS to answer an e-mail either for that matter! I must admit I am a bit surprised at the need for softening of the 1.25, thought they would need as much as possible. They are quite good, much stronger than my '02 bike for the wife, which is Much better than the '06 GG i last rode!
