Well said woody. Why is it that so many from the other side of the pond dont understand what Trials is about and seem to want to turn it into a Circus stunt show?
Just for the american contingent
-
I can't and i can't bounce either well i can't on me bike then again i can't stop and balance without falling over either Thats why i ride Pre65ish. All in all i think i'd better take up golf like rosey
-
Hi there so sorry to hear you had an off at the trial. Looked really bad but the "after" shot means alls well again. Will make a note of the contact. Sounds like great service
-
Firstly nobody HAS to leave their own country. Lots of people migrate all over the EU to where the work is or where they can better themselves.
Do totally agree however with your final point and i dont know why if people feel so hot under their collar about it why dont they form a "Stop Allowed Trials Association" and run trials just for stop allowed enthusiasts with their own BTC ? Perhaps entry qualification would be the ability to perform a three point turn in a box 8ft square ? Also perhaps the member clubs could have an age limit of under 40's only ? applied to club officials as well as riders ? OK only joking but many a true word spoken in jest
-
At first glance this seems a good idea however i think very soon you would find "works" tyres evolving. As long as the same mould is used the tyre would look to all intents and purposes the same as the tyre Joe Public buys but like a "works bike" it's what you cant see that matters. How apart from cutting the tyre in pieces do you check the construction? How do you test the rubber compound without a lab? etc etc etc Road tyres alrady have multi compound construction and track day tyres though they look similar to road tyres bear no resemblance in reality just try a set and be amazed. So tyres ? wide open to abuse i'm afraid.

Thanks for that Steve it really is appreciated as is the number of e mails i have received along the same lines it really does make the effort all seem worthwhile.
Looking forward to seeing you again in the new year. Keep watching the website www.peakclassic.co.uk for updates on the calender for 2012 and some important news of developments for 2012 some of which i told everybody about in the riders briefing but there is a lot more that will be on there in the new year.

So you look forward to that glorious day when us old cretins pack it all in and let the young riders run the show do you. Well i dont see any evidence that any of these young riders are interested in running anything because they never seem to offer to help in any way whatsoever. Oh yes the brickbats come flying about all us old gits "ruining" the sport but the offers to spend Saturday in the poring rain laying out never seems to materialise. Where would you be if everybody over 40 who you obviously feel are either up to no good or so past it they should be pensioned off and left in a corner smelling of wee? well for a start i doubt you would be riding in a trial because if it wasnt for the stupid, in your opinion, over 40's giving up their time to lay out and organise a trial along with everything else that goes into running a club there wouldnt be any trials for you and the young guns which in your opinion are the only people who matter to ride in.
You know it is this kind of attitude that makes me wonder why i actually bother organising a trial and running a club when there are so many people who just know so much better and who could make such a better job of it. It really make me feel like saying stuff the lot of you. In fact why do so many "young" people put up with the insulting events that are foistered upon them by all us old farts? The only reason i do carry on is that i do occaisionally receive e mails and phone calls thanking me for the trial and effort.
So i await being bombarded with people happy to show us over 40's how it should be done!

I feel that Trials is one of the few sports where the course that the top guys perform on is totally impossible for all but a handful of people in the world to even get around never mind ride.
Take GP's both F1 and Moto GP MotoX etc. Anybody and i mean anybody can ride round ANY GP track on anything no problem. OK your lap times would be light years away from the top boys even if you were ever lucky enough to be in or on comparable machinery but you could still complete the course easily. NOT so in Trials.
Is this healthy?? Is a change to No Stop rules the answer? I really dont know but what i do know is that as a course setter it is much easier to find land suitable for No Stop sections unless of course you include stupid man made obsticles which IMHO have no place in the sport anyway.
Just a thought that if sections are laid out AND OBSERVED TO TRUE NO STOP that perhaps just perhaps mere mortals could actually attempt a championship course. OK probably 5 it but at least have a go.

Unexpected overnight rain made the course at Bracken rocks a bit more slippery than intended but the 47 riders who contested Round 10 of the Peak Classic Trials Club Club Championship rose to the occasion and everybody had a great time at this very popular venue in the heart of the Derbyshire Peak District. 47 entrants was a fabulous turn out that made all the effort put in by Paul Beswick setting 11 sections with the help of Tony Sprinks and input from legendary Mick Andrews that tested the riders abilities without being dangerous worthwhile.
Current Intermediate Twinshock Championship leader and reigning East Midlands Centre ACU Classic Twinshock Champion Tony Sprinks took up observing for the day as his faithful Bultaco was poorly so he had to watch on while his Championship rival Ian Bend rode to second place in the Intermediate Twinshock class cutting Tonys Championship lead by 17 points. Could have been worse for Tony if not for Ashley Hallows, making an infrequent appearance at one of our trials, taking the class win depriving Ian of another precious 3 championship points.
Also making an infrequent appearance at our trials was the reigning East Midlands Centre ACU Classic British Bike Champion Barry Burton who rode his Tiger Cub into second place in the Expert British Bike category which was won by Pete Carson who is currently leading the Club Championship in the expert British Bike Class great rides guys with the pair trading scores as the trial progressed. In fact the Carson clan had a great day taking a clean sweep with Peter winning the Expert British Bike honours and his son Robert crusing to a win on the Expert Twinshock route and last but not least Peters brother Derek Carson taking the win on the Intermediate British Bike course. Sounds like an extension to the Carson awards cabinet will be required?
The Clubman British Bike class was narrowly won by course setter Paul Beswick on a very sick sounding James by just 1 mark from Graham Lyons on his BSA Bantam. Looks like an engine strip is on the cards for Pauls James so heres hoping Santa is listening and the parts are on their way.
So with the Club Championship drawing to a close even though some of the final Championship places have now been decided some of the classes are still up for grabs check out our website www.peakclassic.co.uk for more details.
As a club we are still suffering from a lack of observers with the riders having to observe themselves on a lot of the sections so if you fancy a go at observing at our next trial please come along we do offer a small reward for your time and trouble and it
-
actually that was what i was getting at when i suggested a vote earlier
-
Thanks for that Charlie i look forward to seeing you at one of our events.
Just today completed all the sections for tomorrow and it was great to get some help from me old mate Mick Andrews with the laying out.
So guys you have 11 sections over 4 laps laid out that are testing but with no supertight turns, mega steps or drop offs. Just proper sections for proper trials bikes.
What more do you want??????
Be there Sunday 11.00 report to follow
-
Lots of people have posted that 80 - 99% of UK competitors dont care about WTC and would prefer just one rule and thats no stop so why dont we have a poll on TC.
-
Always been the case with Honda. Remember Eddys bikes which bore no resembelence to what they sold.
-
Was talking about this thread with a friend of mine who used to be pretty handy on a trials bike and he pointed out that when he started to compete in the European Championships, they didnt have a WTC back then, he upped sticks and went to live in Spain to hone his already impressive skills. That was back in the late 60's.
So whats changed?
-
-
Doesnt appear that many are supporting it now.
-
Lets just hope this filters down to youth trials too as the "dads" are often louder than the bikes
-
Well the weather forcast is looking a LOT better for this Sunday than it did just 12 months ago when we had to cancel last years event due to snow making the venue inaccessable. Been down today and will be finishing the sections tomorrow for Sundays event which looks to be a good un
So if you ride a British Bike, Twinshock or Pre 95 air Cooled Monoshock why not come along to Bracken Rocks this Sunday for a super days sport with a club dedicated to Classics and Twinshocks where the sections are laid out with these bikes in mind not a modern trial with a classes for Twinshocks and British Bikes added just to swell the numbers.
Three routes Expert, Intermediate and Clubman so something to suit all abilities.
Start time is 11.00am so see you there
As usual the PB Trialsport van will also be there for those spares and accessories.
-
Our trials have always been run to no stop rules. I just wish the observers always observed to the same rules however i would sooner have an observer who let the trick cyclists get away with a stop, i have to assume they wouldnt allow punk rock pogoing?, than have no observers at all. Positive move if the ACU do decide to go no stop as hopefully then observers will observe to no stop rule.
WTC has more in common with cycle trials than what we all do every sunday so dont really care what they do as the WTC is an irrelevance to most riders.

Ok Dave but that wont deter an ambulance chaser. Just seems needlessly negligent to me. When i first started a bobble hat and a pair of goggles was deriguer along with a Belstaff jacket, trousers and NCB wellies but the bobble hat along with the rest of the "gear" has gone and i wouldnt ride without a helmet nowadays insurance stipulation or not! How many times have you smacked your head on a low branch and thanked whichever god goes with you you were wearing a helmet? I have.

-
Must admit it surprised and to be honest shocked me too. The potential litegation issues are frightening.
Saying that nice to see some piccys of "pre65" bikes being used
-
-
Yes. On a spare wheel possibly get away with it just for summer use but still not as good as a worn IRC. Only fit to put on a bike i was selling so i could sell as "fitted with new tyres". Just my humble opinion if you are happy with one fitted and dont mind losing a few marks because of it then fine. I would sooner spend the money and buy good tyres and know i have the best chance to get that good result. Tyres in every form of motor sport are cruical to getting a result. Then again thats just my opinion you fit what you like and good luck to you.
-
99% of the Villiers engined bikes in the Pre65 Scottish will be out if it's not LOL Then again there's the 37a debate
