  1. Kjax, Like Scott said, try to ride all the Sportsman lines (a couple times each) at your event. Try to keep a mental score and you can project how many points you would end up with if you rode the event. This should put you in the "ballpark" to where you might end up in competition (if that concerns you). If you feel comfortable doing the bigger stuff and have the ambition, then give the Sportsman class a try. If we could ever find time to do some riding together, I might be able to give you some pointers to add to your talents
  2. I was told the Rose City event will be expanding the riding grounds from last year. Last years event was great! The riding grounds are unlike any other event in MOTA's circuit and the club took advantage of laying out very nice sections (off-camber, side hills, river-beds) "old school" style. With the high gas prices the two day event is nice. Now, I just have to talk my knee into it. Can we arrive Friday evening with trailers?

    Boot Repair

I just bought a pair of replacement soles for my Garne boots. I took my boots into a Red Wing store where the owner has been in business for over 30 years. He said that he couldn't put the new soles on for me because he cannot find an adhesive strong enough. He said some adhesives may work for a little while, but won't last. He is known for doing top quality repair work for years, so I tend to believe him. This is as far as I've investigated so any advice? What adhesive or process is used to bond new soles?

    2008 Beta 250

You can gain a LOT by riding on the balls of your feet. Although moving (foward) to the arch of your foot to apply the break is necessary, learn to transition back and fourth to the ball of your foot when not on the break. It will come naturally and after awhile and you won't have to think about it. Not riding on the balls of your feet (for me) would be like taking the spring out of a pogo stick. Going too far back on the ball of your foot is no good...you don't want to ride on your toes. You should be able to find the "sweet" spot in one practice. Correctly adjusting the pedal is also important. I have noticed the riders who adjust their pedals far down are those that don't ride on the balls of their feet. I have an 08 Beta and the pedal is still factory set...it is about the same heigth as the foot peg.
  5. Some of the sections will offer some bigger than usual obsticals for the exp and adv lines...weather permitting. But don't fear, we still expect all to be able to ride them and have fun. We expect a good turn out despite the threat of rain and hot weather.
  6. There was an Air Show on Sunday causing the traffic pile up. There was an estimated 3/4 million people there to watch. The show was originally set for Saturday, but was postponed to Sunday...I think due to the weather (high winds). Lets remind the MOTA committee of this when we set the schedule for next year and avoid scheduling an event the same weekend as the air show. Great Event Windsor Club!
  7. Hats off to Rusty. He is expected to ride his first event in several, several years. He's jumping right back into the expert class... right where he left off. I was told he should fit well within the pack of top riders. Should make for great competition in the class.
  8. Scott, I didn't know you were going. You should have told me, we could of worked something out and made travel arrangements? Who is Paul?
  9. Sam, do you have room for one more bike? I'm thinking of going to the CO national also. I have a couple more buddies that may go to. Do you split the gas proportionally for every bike you take...what amount ($) are you figuring? Thanks

    Where To Stay

Hay Biff, who are your travel partners? I'm heading down with 2 others and will be there Friday late morning. We are staying in Chattanooga.
  11. Sounds great Sam! Will you have concessions? Just wondering for planning purposes.
  12. Same as above, but I spray chain on both sides with degreaser, then pressure wash.
  13. Biff, Here's some info: Round 1 & 2 "Fun in the Sun". March 1st & 2nd Hardrock, Ocala, Fl. Round 3 & 4 "Spring Fling". May 17th & 18th Trials Training Center, Sequatchie. Tn. Round 5 & 6 "Stoney Trials". Sept. 20th & 21st Stone Lonesome club ground. Columbus, Ind. Last year, T.I.'s website had information for the 2007 Regional Series, but I just looked and didn't see any information for the 08 series. Just to note, I don't believe it's TI's responsibility to post this information. This type of information should be posted in the newly created "USA Trials Reviews and Previews". I don't think many people know this Regional Series exists. Some of the funds go to support our TdN team...which is great, but why such a secret?????? (just trying to make a point). Have fun down there!
  14. I found my float level to be at 17.5mm, so I adjusted it to 19mm and no more stalling/flooding! I also installed an aftermarket kill switch. Thanks to all for the tips.
  15. JMcK...I grasp the idea and will take a look at it this weekend...Thank you! I did find by the recommended float height setting on the Keihin website at 19mm and some other useful tips/checks to ensure free movement of the float.
  16. Thanks for the input. I have checked the fuel cap. I will be installing an aftermarket kill switch this weekend as the Beta factory kill switch only works half of the time.
  17. GEZ, I'm experiencing similar problems. I am also looking for the float height setting on the 08 Beta with KEIHIN carb. My bike will stall on flat sometimes (no rhyme or reason) and I'm guessing it's flooding out. Bike will USUALLY start back up if let sit 20 -30 seconds and run fine. This problem has existed intermittently since new, about 2 1/2 months now....good thing only practicing.
  18. Is there a difference between the Beta 27mm clutch master cylinder (as listed on betamotors.com) and the stock cylinder? If so, what would be the advantages/disadvantages of the aftermarket?
  19. Turning it out would lean the mixture.
  20. Chewy, could you please provide part number(s) for the Goodridge 600 series you use on the Beta break/clutch lines? Thanks

  22. 2008 Beta's with Keihin carbs: I can't be the only one having this problem? The flexible wire or cable that is "attached" to the air mixture screw has come apart two times now on my bike. The first time it happened I removed the air screw and soldered the cable back in, but I guess I didn't do a good job because it has come apart again. So, I re-soldered it and believe I did a good job this time, so I hope it stays. Just to note, I didn't twist or turn the cable excessively to make it come apart. I've only made practical adjustments as needed to adjust for temperature...or slight adjustments. I've almost come afraid to make adjustments for the fear of it coming apart again and spending 1/2 hour fixing it again.... I would hate for this to happen during an event. So, any advice or alternatives available?
  23. Keith, good idea. Yep, a fish...hmmm... But yes, I did convert and loving it!
  24. I don't believe you have missed anything about U.S. results postings & schedules. I have seen from time to time (usually shortly after a U.S. National) results posting under the USA and Canada News section on the home page. I have also seen several result postings that "local" clubs have made in this section. I'm not sure how to post to the home page, but this may be the area to make such results postings. It would be nice to have a designated page for U.S. schedules (National and local) with links for further event information. I don't know if the T.C. forum would allow such "advertisement"?
  25. Well, if finally happened.... Only in the Great Lake state of Michigan is where you'd find a boat incorporated in a section. Club Metro, of the Michigan Ontario Trials Association hosted a great event this past weekend and used a boat as an obstacle in a section! It was about a 16' V-hull fiberglass fishing boat flipped upside down... I've never ridden anything as slick! As more rides were taken onto the boat it began rock side to side adding more challenge. I guess it's a change of pace from the cars we use to ride on. Great event club Metro!
