  1. Hi all, Just like to relate a recent SURPRISE I had when doing some internet shopping in Spain. This MIGHT be my mistake/misunderstanding...but nevertheless. THe items were sent UPS which obviously to Hong Kong is probably 3 or 4 times more expensive than normal post. But apparently that is how they always do it, unless you ask for "normal" post. Unfortunately I didnt know that...so just thought you guys would appreciate the advance warning.
  2. Hey ..dont worry guys especially about those comments from the MXers!!..thats whats best about trials..not having the 'masses' messing it up. Of course Im all for promoting/pushing the sport..but there are some advantages to it the way it is if you ask me
  3. Hi Ron... Yep...that helps ALOT. So far my new gasket has been in for a couple of weeks with no problems. BUT I couldnt find the gasket cement you talk about. I KNOW you can get it here..will look a bit harder for it NEXT time!!! Regarding the tyre. I did exactly what you said...I gave up on that tubeless one which had been given to me anyway...and then used a tube type one with no problems. SInce that...looking around the bikes here...I cant see ANY (even new bikes) with a tubeless type front tyre. Starting to think the one that had been given me had dropped from the moon or something. I will DEFINATELY never buy a tubeless front!
  4. Thats great!!..thanks alot,.,,I've been wanting to do something about my carb for a while, so I'll give it a go now!
  5. Thanks Dabster...as you say..I think it will just be a matter of perservering. Just frustrating 'cause I've only done one before!!..about a year ago on my Beta and it worked fine first time!!...not so lucky this time eh!!
  6. Cheers JTT... It looks and feels all the way on, but when I let it down to about 6psi..(what I ride at)..it slips back into the rim. Like I said its ages since I changed a front tyre..and I cant remember if they pop twice like when the rear one beads. I guess being a tube type tyre, it doesnt need to pop??..mine didnt but it still dont seem right
  7. Fitted a TUBE TYPE front tyre to the MOntesa today, and it still didnt seem to work that well. Such a long time since I did this, I cant remember if the front one (with a tube) should also "pop" twice, like the back one (tubeless) does when it beads. If anyone would care to reasure me I would be very gratefull.
  8. Well...the front tyre that I've been TRYING to fit to the Montesa...definately says tubeless on it. But the one on my Beta says TUBE TYPE on it. SO I guess (judging by the imposibility to get the tubeless one on the 2000 MOnt) that the two tyres are slightly different ..even though from the outside they both just look like regular Mitchelins
  9. Hi all, Just been trying to fit a tubeless tyre to my Montesa 2000 (front). Only just bought the bike. Used to have a tube in it, so I left the tube in, but the tubeless tyre wont seem to bead on that rim. Are they VERY different...(tube and tubeless front tyres??) I thought it wouldnt matter. AND..in that case...could I fit a tube type front tyre, on my Beta Rev 3 that is meant to have a tubeless front tyre Might seem like a strange question, but tyres are VERY hard to come by here in HK, so you often have to "grab what you can" I have now however, officially given up trying to get the tubeless tyre to fit on the front of the MOntesa....after much sweat and swearing!!
  10. r2w...I know your Gas Gas runs well on scrumpy..but I'm sure the guys at BVM will bring fuel for the bikes...
  11. Mmmm..thanks Craig. Thats interesting...does get pretty HOT here..and a few of the guys seem to have leaky Beta's. Will definately check the breather hoses. Interestingly..my new gasket turned up yesterday, and I think this time, I will have more luck. The new gasket is a kind of papery one. THe last one I bought was a kind of rubbery one, with a little blue ridge all the way around it...and I RECKON...that the rubbery one, was too fat, and not "grippy" ehough???
  12. Hi Subira..THanks for that...and dont worry..no need to wait for Martins response...GOing on your usualy posts, I would trust you implicitly (sp?)...so I will NOT try anything but a resistor plug. One last attempt at finding one here today, think they MIGHT have the Iridium one you're on about. CHEERS
  13. You certainly is a funny guy. Thats the best post I've read in ages. WIsh I had a mate with an ossa that I could forward it too
  14. Mmmm..........it's certainly over my head!
  15. WOW...this is amazing..I might have actually learned something at school if there was internet in those days. What can I say...thanks to everyone for answering my doughnut questions I think i will try and buy a kit soon and try to find something to practise on first. BUT..just one last doughnut question..that will help make it REALLy clear to me...In your picture JTT is the driver the second from left and the tap third from left?? .................NO laughing!!
  16. Thats great guys..special thanks to JTT for the pics. SO..Just a couple of things...(probably being a right doughnut here)....dont really understand what a "tap" does that the drill wont have already done. ALSO..if a hole was already helicoiled..(I think for instance the rear bash plate holes on the Beta are)..could I just pull out the old thread and insert another of the same size..without any drillling etc?? I assume that one really needs lots of different size drivers to insert the coil???depending on the coil size??...and I assume there is another? tool for pulling out old/knackered helicoils? SOrry for all the (probably dumb) questions...hope you dont mind me bothering you all further THANKS
  17. Hi all... I've moaned regularly on here about many of the threads getting wrecked on my Beta...especially those going into the frame..like the REAR bash plate ones. The common suggestion was to use Helicoil. SO...eventually I would like to purchase this kit? and learn how to use it...BUT I have no idea about the procedure etc. IF..anyone is doing one in the near future and wants to do me a MASSIVE favour..please post a few pics on what the tool looks like, and if possible...the procedure involved. GO ON...I'll be yer best mate. Cheers in advance if anyone has the time/energy to do this
  18. Cheers Lloyd.. Now I'm even more confused though. Went to the bike shop this afternoon...and OK its not a trials dealer, but the guy there is pretty smart...even got out the NGK guidance books etc to show me, and swore blind that it wont matter at all if I dont use an "R" plug...(ie he reckons a BP6ES will be fine). Still more inclined to take CHarlie and Jays advice ..but it does seem to be a rather "un-agreed" topic. Will probably get a resistor cap like Jay suggested since they are readily available here
  19. Interesting to hear Bikespace. THats just the kind of stuff we should all be posting. Much more usefull than just saying "my bikes the best" I've kept a pretty detailed log on whats happened to my Beta Rev3 2002 (bought it in '03)...and I've gotta say that its lasted pretty well too....BUT..I'm not doing the regular competitions that you are! Keep up the good info!
  20. Hi all...and thanks for your help. THanks for the offer Lloyd...I'll look for a Bosch here, but if I dont find one, then I'll probably take you up on that. ANyone, know how much fork oil I should be using??...like to try and change it tommorow...cheers
  21. I'm probably being a COMPLETE doughnut now..but I thought the resistor was just to avoid interference with the spark from 3rd party electronic gadgets etc....Is it really connected to what type of ignition is on the bike??...I'm surprised none of the other modern trials bikes "NEED" a plug with resistor? Thanks..anyway..its not that I dont believe you, just feel a little un-sure ...I WILL however tread carefully and keep hunting for a BR6ES!!
  22. Hi all, Just wondered if anyone can help me with some basic maintenance info for this bike. I'd like to know, how much fork oil is recommended. How much transmission oil. AND, some friends here reckon you MUST use spark plug BR6ES?? That plug is hard to get here, do you reckon a BP6ES would be OK?? Thanks in advance for any help.
  23. HI Subira.. Been trying to order that light off TOpFun today...did you ever have any problems using their online shop??.....I keep filling all my details in..and then when I press "place order"...it says the page cannot be found or something. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong??..or do you reckon its a problem their end?
  24. Yep...thats exactly it. Thanks subira...will check out Top Fun and see how much they are.
