Ginger..if the current stuff is red..its probably ATF fluid,,which is cheaper..but personally I prefer gear oil..(sorry Heath)..which is pretty cheap here anyway..(cheaper than UK..by a mile)..we use Repsol brand here..and it works great in my Beta. BVM have always been VERY good/helpfull with me too, so I'm pleased you found the same.
-
Well...untill reading your post marky G I was to scared to say it...(OK I'm ready for the backlash now)...I tried one the other week..OK not for long, but I too wasnt THAT impressed. TO me, it did seem better than the 04 2 stroke Montesa 315.....BUT, it didnt feel ANY better than a 05 Beta or 05 Sherco that I recently tried. I guess it all comes down to what your used to??
-
gerard...munch is correct..if you look back at ALL the Beta forums..you will find some usefull info on this problem.
OR....if you can do withought your carburettor for a couple of weeks, post it to
www.bvm-moto.co.uk
THey can do some modifications to the carb for you that will stop the leaking.
GOOD LUCK!!

AS bikespaces' avatar used to say Martin...

HI windfall..
Can't be of much direct help I'm afraid..but I would agree with R2W...probably a MASSIVE difference. My dads got a Rotax engine Aprilia Climber..which basically scares the life out of me. Engine seems VERY aggresive...and bike feels VERY heavy. COmparing that to the Rev3 that I ride...well...its like comparing the hunchback of NotreDame..and Naomi Campbell
-
Lets hope they remember the bit where Alun says he wants to safeguard the use of rights of way for EVERYONES enjoyment.
-
well said Jay...especially the ride for yourself bit!
I'll still enjoy watching Dougie ride..whatever the result!
-
Well...lets not miss the point.
and the point is that Dougie certainly hasnt let us down.
He will ALWAYS be a credit to the sport..and a VERY professional sportsman.
The fact that he even makes a statement like that..proves it.
DOnt be too hard on yerself Dougie...your still the king in my book!!

steve...
thanks a million.Saw that shop when we went house hunting in Rushden...will be straight in there when we arrive. Want to get started as soon as possible.
will e-mail you nearer the time too if you dont mind, and maybe we can go for a crash test practise. Good to know there's a few trials riders round there!
-
Its because in their previous life, if you wanted your bike to sound louder you had to peddle REALLY fast to make that piece of paper with clothes peg, on your back wheel sound louder.
Nowadays you just have to twist the grip on yer 125 so they're just making the most of it.

Hi Dabster..
Where can I get the form??..I would be happy to join up right now.OK, I dont get back till October, but the minute I get back I wanna get started. Is it the Milton Buzzard club you mean/suggest?
I'll be living in Rushden..maybe only temporarily...but at least for 3 or 4 months.
Cheers for any help...PS. Hope you'll all teach me how to ride properly when I get back!
-
Hope you get some more replies markh
I'll be moving to northants myself in October..so I hope there is somewhere to practice.
-
If you buy Michelins...just make sure you get a TUBE TYPE front..not a TUBELESS one...even if you have a tubeless rim,...it is VERY hard to get a TUBELESS FRONT to bead properly. Better use the TUBE TYPE with a tube.
On the rear...the tubeless one is fine...but some people still stick a tube in that too.

Oh!...forgot to say..
regarding my last post!..please...all you Montesa fans out there..dont get offended by my last post....I'm well aware that is my crap riding ability that has made it hard for me to get used to a MOnt...NOT that I think Beta are easier or better...just what I'm used to!!
-
THanks for all your help guys. Will definately check that out triton..at least I might be able to explain myself a bit better then!
There has been HOPEFULLY a small change of events too. It might be that someone wants to buy my Montesa, as it is..so might just get rid of it!
Yep I am a Beta owner Jay...and from now on, I ALWAYS will be. Bought this Montesa two months ago, as a second bike because it was cheap. Still runs OK..but I find it UNBELIEVABLY hard to ride compared to the Beta. SO much so, that I'd never even think of owning a MOnt again. Those world champs must be bloody good!..i could hardly bloody turn the thing without footing...feels so bloody heavy all the time, and suspension feels REALLY dead!!
ANyway..if the sale falls through, I will take all your advice and try to sort the thing out!
THanks guys!
-
Mmmm thanks guys...Charlie..someone else did suggest to me that it might be there bearing at the bottome of the piston?...(sorry I dont know anything about engines!!),,,or at least where the piston joins the arm thingy that holds the piston. Do you think it might be that??..and what would that bearing be called? THat one must be easier to change eh?!
Thanks Amiller...you're right..there are some good bike shops that would do the work..but I'd have to order the bits from UK first. SO just want to try and make a more educated guess which bits I might need, before opening the wallet!
-
Mmm...interesting...thanks for the replies guys. Just as well I ride a Beta then!!...already on my third rear for my 02 rev3.
Nice to know that if I can ever afford an 05 model..I'll still be able to afford a couple extra rear mudguards!!!!!!
-
Just curious..
saw some mudguards for sale on e-bay for a Sherco I think..about 60 quid or something.
I'm pretty sure I only paid about 30 quid for a rear guard on my 02 Beta rev3. Just another reason to buy a Beta!!!
BUT..I wondered, did the more current rev3's (with the removeable bit on the rear mudguard/to get to air filter)...make it more expensive??
30 quid for an 02 one is pretty good eh!?
-
Hi all...
bear with me on this one..'cause i dont really know what Im talking about!!
My year 2000 Montesa 315 has quite a noticeable rattle to the engine note..(gets slightly less when warm). A few people here told me its probably the crank? bearing??..and they reckon it is common on these bikes.
I also mentioned to a mate that I guess its difficult to replace (for someone crap with spanners such as I)...but he reckoned there might be a shop in the UK that would kind of do you a swap. i.e ..instead of changing the bearing, I would send me crank....they keep mine, and they send me another with a new bearing already in it.
If anyone has any advice..I'd really appreciate it. Like..how much the bearing might cost/if I might be able to change it myself/ and/or if there might be a similar service available like I just described above.
Here in Hong Kong, it really does come down to me doing something about it myself...there arent any trials shops.
Cheers in advance for any help.
-
Yeah..it will be very interesting to hear how the new Sherco 4 stroke is. It seems a shame that its not getting hyped as much as the Honda though??
How DO Honda do that??...lets hope the SHerco gets a good exposure though...cant have one make getting all the limelight eh!..that would be boring
-
Kevin j...
what can I say??!!..you're a star..thanks for all your help. I'm sure when I pass this on to my mate..he will be very happy.
-
Cheers big john...
yep..that helps massively. My friend will be very pleased. Yep it is a red framed one, so I guess its a 1983.
If anyone else can find the bearing sizes I'd still appreciate it.
Thanks again
-
Hi Stewart..
the Champion plug DEFINATELY works better on mine..and our Beta importer here in Hong Kong was told to ALWAYS use the Champion...but I think the best thing i did (mine used to ping as well) was to switch to better petrol. Makes a big difference.
Good luck!
-
Ooh...I DO love a game of farts...its SO much more fun than trials!
-
Hi all..
a post on behalf of a friend.
Just wondered if anyone knows bearing sizes, to help us go and buy them, BEFORE pulling them all out.
We will replace front and rear wheel...and head bearings.
It is a mono TY250....I THINK 1983 model.
ALSO..does anyone know how much of the following fluids
Gear oil
Fork Fluid.....
and FINALLY ...what spark plug would you all reccomend?
Cheers in advance for any help
