HI all...
a mate of mine has just got his 4RT here in Hong KOng. Its the only one. He reckons it feels a bit flat...so just wondered...are there any restrictors on it??...and better still could anyone tell him where they are/can they be removed.
Cheers in advance for any help.

Bloody excellent!! I like your sense of humour. ANd yes you MUST change your graphics every year..or maybe just paint your bike pink or something
-
Another thing I forgot richy!!!!!!!
I also bought an air filter and some other bits and pieces for my dads APrilia from bvm-moto.co.uk
They seemed to know a fair bit about the Aprilia. You may know that Steve Saunders sometimes works for that shop, and I think he used to ride the Gorilia Climber!!..so he knows about that bike!!
-
richy..
forgot to say that although I'm in HK...that guy Peter Knight is in UK...Bath I think if I remember correctly.
He told me that he has a deal where he will strip an engine for maximum 1 hour labour. THen he'll let you know what needs replacing/fixing before going ahead. Might try to get him to give my dads an overhaul sometime.
See ya
-
HIya..
My dad has a 1993 one. Some people told us this. Transmission oil is 950cc for water cooled ones or 1400cc for air cooled ones. I put 950cc in my dads water cooled one last time, and it seemed to be OK.
The oil filler is difficult to find though!!
SPark plug BP5ES
Fork oil 260cc in each leg
If you have any engine problem/need of parts there is a VERY helpful guy called Peter Knight (company called PowerSport??) most people call him the ROtax man. Knows everything about Rotax engine, and can sell you a manual for your ENGINE.
There might be a link to him on r2wtrials.com
If not, just do a search on google and I think you'll find it.
GOod luck

You MUST Steve...
I really liked the 04 (tried a friends here)...and although the 05 is MASSIVELY better than my 02, its is also noticeably better than the 04 (in my HUMBLE opinion...I'm only really a wobbler).....can't believe how Beta can keep making it better and better...to a point where someone of my ability can notice it!
-
Sssssh!!!!...
DOnt tell everyone MarkyG...at least it wasnt for nicking bikes or anything horrible like that!!
Happy New Year to you too!!
-
Ooh!...you lucky thing...so can I have a go on it then!!!
Hey!..maybe see you at the Trials Central 2006 trial then!!!..I'll be back in UK by then!
-
I guess its only fair to put this post here where the Beta fans go!!
Just had a go on an 05 Beta. I'm not a great rider, but I was AMAZED how much easier it felt than my 02 Beta...AND than the 05 Sherco I recently tried. I guess the reason I'm saying this is, if anyone has the money and is hesitating to by a new Beta ........DONT...if I win the lottery, I'll be going straight out to buy one...or maybe even 2
-
Yep sound advice all!!
Especially the tryre advice from clarkp Loads of guys here seem to never change their front tyre. if you ask my humble opinion..its REALLY good to have a newer front on...really helps to balance if the front tyre can grip well when you are stopping. Enjoy....great bikes!!!!!
-
Yeah...the trouble with blisters is they really snag your tights when your putting em on eh guys!!!!
blah blah blah I reckon the chicks love a few bits of rough skin on yer hands!!
-
You're not the only one big John...I only just know how to turn the thing on (the computer!!)..and I still dont know how to use a mobile phone. Virtually nobody in HK believes me if I say I dont have a mobile. Its true though, and very proud of it too, since only 1 percent of the population here DONT have one!! WIll get one when I do the SSDT though, maybe I can order a pizza on it half way round. Get that pizza guy on his vespa, riding through a section or two to deliver my peperoni!
-
After all...whats a few kg's amongst friends?..take Da Make's advice I would!
-
Think you can find the weight on the net if you do a bit of searching. The Beta, according to the manual is 75.5kg (unfueled but ready to operate)
Personally I'm very biased 'cause I love Betas..but I would personally put more emphasis on realiability than weight. There aint nothing more frustrating than getting all geared up for a good ride on the bike, only to end up spending the day with a load of spanners in yer hand!
-
You're right STU..Much better than sitting on a beach..personally thats my ultimate nightmare holiday. Obviously it would cost me a fortune to do it from Hong Kong...but HOPEFULLY one day. Just worried that I'll never be good enough. Looks pretty hard on the vids I've watched. Is there enough accomodation in those places..or do some people have to sleep in caravans or something?...might TRY to persuade some people from HK to enter it with me....they did about 20 years ago I THINK. Would have to be 2006 now I guess....(more time for me to practise)
-
Sorry..this is a bit off topic..but..assuming I might MAYBE be good enough to try it one day..(in my dreams).and have the nerve to enter..is it really expensive?..of course I realise that accomodation etc etc is probably alot, but is entry fee loads?....Just curious
-
Doesnt one need vibration as well as air, for the kazzoo thing to work??..so we would need a bike that vibrates alot...(not a Beta of course..they're far too smooth )
I like the trials trumpet idea too...but that would definately need vibration and air. We can then blame all the noise on the local town band..cool!!
-
EXCELLENT..I was hoping the rumours were false. Watched Graham ride at Puerto Pajares last year...bloody excellent...I reckon its his turn for the crown...come on Graham..do it for the twins!!!!!!!
-
Hiya...
I run mine with a Repsol oil (maybe you cant get it there?) at 80:1 and I use NGKBP7ES..that is (so the book says) the equivelant of the Champion plug. I have tried the Champion plug (refer to manual..'cause I cant remember the number) once, and it ran MUCH better on it, but I cant buy them here in HK. My plug is often a bit black too, but its much better if I do a few long blasts on the bike rather than lots of wobbling around in the yard. Hope some of that helps

Any chance of posting a photo wizz. Be nice to see what it looks like

Hi,
I THINK there is some gas gas info at www.r2wtrials.com
If not specifically what you want, you can always leave a question there, and I,m sure you'll get a good reply.
-
To anyone ..anywhere..you can also find Bernies book at
www.WhiteHorsePress.com
Thats where I bought mine..its great...dont get paying over the odds!!
-
Nice one Neonsurge.
You are absolutely right. Lower frequency sound travels further than higher frequency...and I'm quite sure Im correct in saying that lower frequencies are also more damaging to the ear.
I do know thats NOT what we are talking about though...and I haven't heard a 4rt live..but on the vids on the internet it certainly sounds pretty loud when its revved..and it certainly sounds VERY different to the TL's and RTLs we've got here in Hong Kong. Those old ones you can hardly hear at all..even when you rev their nuts off!
-
The Arai, is a "different' kind of shape. Generally sits higher on the forehead. ALSO..some people will spook you with stories that Arai make two different shape hemlets for every model
this is TRUE!!!!!! there is an Asian shape and Western shape. For their ROAD helmets (full face) this is DEFINATELY true.BUT...personally I have found both very comfortable, and Im the same size in both. However my Arai trials size is one bigger than my Arai full face road helmet size. I wear ASIAN shape in both...find its better for me...(maybe I've been here too long!!!)
SO..hope that clears a few things up. Dabster is right though (not that I would ever doubt you Dabster!!)..so personally I would suggest TRYING an Arai before buying one.
-
well...although I'm a LITTLE p***** off at paying about 60 euro for a trials bike front light to be sent to HK..I;m still not gonna dob someone in it that much.
You can probably work it out for yerself anyhow.
