  1. Thanks Richard...I know the Bash plate is OK...but I will follow your other advice. Should be getting a new gasket in the post in a few days..so will let you know how I get on.
  2. Hi everyone. I'm already on my second clutch cover gasket....AND...this might be because I'm not TOO good with the spanners, but they keep, kind of, working themselves out...and then of course the oil starts leaking out. Pretty irritating to have a bike thats always leaking!!...and its a pain to change since you have to take the bash plate off every time. ANyone else have this problem??...and..any advice would be greatly appreciated!...thanks
  3. Hi all... Where can I get one of those "flat" front lights for my Montesa....you know the carbon looking one like the famous guys have. Guess it will cost too much..but would be nice to know. ANy ideas??...thanks in advance
  4. Cheers all....thanks for the help
  5. Hi Danny.. Thanks for that!! Now it should be obvious which model it is. It seems to be very popular in this neck of the woods, to put on newer plastics and then pretend the bike is newer too!!! I doubt if the seller will have bothered to also change the forks though..so we should now know the truth!!!!
  6. Dear all....a post on behalf of my mate that is looking to buy a Mont. He's not sure if its a 99 or 2000 model. I've been trying to "swot up" on the differences before I go to look at it with him. But they seem pretty similar..(plastics from what he says are not the proper ones anyway). Only OBVIOUS thing I can see is the 2000 had a stainless front exhaust. If anyone has any other obvious pointers...please let us know. Thanks in advance
  7. Ah!...thanks Bikespace..you just reminded me..what I forgot from my previous post. THe pin that the chain adjuster buts against is also buggered on my bike. Its yet another place on the Beta where the threads just dont seem strong enough. I still love mine to bits ..but that and the bash plate fixings reall p*** me off...since its otherwise VERY good. Oh..and the exhaust mount thing that I mentioned earlier
  8. Good point munch. I guess that happened in the past...but nowadays...we all kind of try on each others lids, and then order the size/make that fits best. Its just a bit frustrating, since it means that you can only "safely" order the same make as what yer mates already got! For instance I would love to try a Hebo..but no-one here (to my knowledge) has one..so I have NO idea what size Hebo would fit me. Ah well...I guess this thread is kind of exhausted now!! I'll just stick with what I've got and shut up!! (or try too!!!)
  9. HI jrsunt... Yeah..I TOTALLY agree with you....BUT..(theres always a but eh!)...and I'm not just trying to be a smart a***!!...for some of us..admittedly its probably only a few of us..there really is NO other choice than mail order. For example..here in Hong KOng...LITERALLY the ONLY trials helmet for sale is an Arai...and for some of us ..even at HK prices..its a bit too expensive. One of my mates here for example had an X-Peed helmet posted from UK...at a VERY reasonable price. Of course from the shop point of view I understand the possible bad points..but its OK isnt it if they sell it on the proviso..of NO return/refund/change?
  10. Gearbox oil, mostly leaks from the clutch cover gasket..(cheap to replace..but a pain since you have to take the bash plate off..due to the bash plate rubber being in the way) Good idea about the nuts PA..but I'm not very experienced with Helicoil..and I think if I get it wrong once..in an aluminium frame it might end in tears?
  11. HI all... Just wondered...and this might require someone with LOTS of knowldege/spare time on their hands!!! It might be REALLY usefull to some of us that are confined to mail ordering things (SHOPKEEPERS TAKE NOTE)....to have a "SIZE COMPARISON CHART" that covers the variations in various manufacturers helmet sizing. For instance I know that I'm a 59.60 in an Arai...but if I wanted to mail order a Hebo..I wouldnt have a clue what size to order. Obviously the chart would only consider sizing and not "shape" Hope someone might take up the challenge and that Andy might consider it a usefull permanent feature on the sight??
  12. Hi Ben.. Sorry..still trying to find out about SHoei sizing compared to Arais..no luck so far. Woman in the Arai shop here reckoned the sizing for a trials lid is the same as for an Arai ROAD full face lid. BUT...doesnt work for me. I'm a size 57.58 in an Arai road lid...and a 59.60 in an Arai trials lid. ANyway..will keep trying on the Shoei/Arai sizing thing
  13. Hi Marky G... I like my 02 Rev3 250..but I reckon the 04 is much better to RIDE. Problems I've had with 02 are ....Silent block (rubber exhaust end can mount)..has broken 3 times...(Cheap though..so just make sure you have a spare one ready) Leaking gearbox oil. (gasket seems to shift after hitting your bash plate hard ) Bash plate is very hard to get off withouht g-clamping it. Many off the threads into the frame are like putty!..particularly the rear bash plate bolts....which becuase they are not countersunk like the Montesas..keep catching on rocks...their heads then round off..and they sometimes work themselves out of the same crappy thread. Make sure you thread lock them..and if poss. modify to countersunk bolts of rear of bashplate. Otherwise...(and these are all VERY small niggles in my book) it is a really good bike. Oh and the rubber from my carb to airbox perishes VERY quickly..but maybe thats something to do with the humidity here??
  14. Oil could be going anywhere if its like my Rev3. Thats my main gripe with the bike. Clutch cover gasket keeps leaking..even now I put a new one in. etc etc.,,,probably mostly down to my bad skills with a spanner though
  15. No ..BUT you go TO the bar alot
  16. Hi Ben... Yep it has a removeable liner. Before I go any further..just want to point out to all out there..that I'm NOT encouraging importing stuff and avoiding your local dealer!!!...just that Ben r cannot get Arai in Australia.. Anyway..I'll carry on Ben..yep..removeable liner..and stainless double D ring fastener...(like the Arai road helmets)..NOT a buckle..AND..its VERY humid here..and its never rusted. I will try to check on the size of an Arai, compared to that of a Shoei..but your right ,,might be a bit risky buying un-tried. Will get back to you if I can find out more about the size.
  17. Hi Ben.. Mmmmmm.........UNofficially we can get to some of those bits you saw...but of course we never do Have you thought about an Arai??.....can't get Shoei here..but I can get an Arai...for ABOUT 100GBP..(will check exact price if you want me too). If you can be ABSOLUTELY sure of your size in Arai..I know the shop here would send you one...which would make payment easier since they would take VISA. I can help arrange for you if you want. I will also try to check with the other riders if you can get SHoei here..but I dont think so. My Arai is great...reckon that could be the best thing for you..since postal costs are also VERY reasonable from Hong Kong...
  18. Hi Ben. Try bvm-moto.co.uk They send stuff out to me here in Hong Kong and are very reliable....and always remember to take the VAT off
  19. Bikespace...I LIKE your style That made me laugh.....reminde me of Inspector Grim from "THe Thin Blue Line" hoity-toity,vegetable eating,rambler-bambler,stick it up yer jumper,namby-pamby,wingey-wingers. Oh!...and I agree with the points you made also!
  20. Hee-hee I think the rider was ME Heath...'cause I usually push my bike up hills too!!! Keeps me fit though
  21. SOrry..cant be much help..but I can tell you its DEFINATELY a Beta. I used to have what I THINK was a TR32 or 34...but I dont remember it having upside down forks?
  22. Cheers Richard.!!..WOW..wish I lived in your street!!..thats amazing. Anyway..there is a new one on its way from BVM (they sent it same day I ordered it!!)..so I wont have to wait long. WILL however try to find the rubber thing you suggested. Cheers
  23. DOH!!!!!!!!! Should have listened to you both!!..Here's a classic case of me thinking I know better. At the last minute I thought..I know..rather than silicon it I will thread-lock it. Well it broke..and I thought because I'd overtightened it..BUT actually it broke because the thread-lock reacted with the plastic and ate it all up!!.....Hopefully there is now a new one on the way from BVM Any ideas on a temporary fix anyone??..whilst I wait for the new one???..My mate here reckons the drain plug from a Lambretta will fit, so he's gonna try and find me one today
