  1. OK...another story for you all. I have a friend in HK that is a journalist. He regularly sees his articles for the english paper here, copied word for word into "barbed wire" (as some of us call it)....for the Chinese paper. If he calls them up to complain...they just say . Yes we did it, you can take us to court if you like Thats in Hong Kong!!!...imagine what its like in CHINA!!...dont even THINK a copyright is gonna help you there! IanJ...your story is VERY typical. AND Charlie...I love that story...very funny.
  2. I leave mine to soak, in a bowl of kerosine...and then brush it offf later. Works for me, but I know some people think I'm nuts....ie they think kerosine is not good for the chain. SO..wait to see what people say on here...I'm sure someone will have better advice!
  3. bob...I've had that here before..and it might be that the previous owners riding was like mine? Our practice site here is pretty small, so allways just pootling around in 2/3 gear. Not even revving up too much for the obstacles. Occasionally we head up to the hills where the bike gets a REAL blast...and then it sometimes smokes like crazy..even after I shut the engine off. I guess its just clearing itself out. Having said that...repacking the exhaust will help I guess
  4. I must be physcic (sp?),,good on Cabestany winning in Lisbon. He was just as good on his Beta I reckon..but I dont care..just good to see him winning.
  5. That doesnt surprise me Matt I reckon Cabestany could ride anything brilliantly. I remember watching one Indoor round from 03 (I think) where he was just AMAZING. If he could be like that EVERY time I reckon he'd blitz everyone. Sorry I cant remember which round it was..but it really was amazing.
  6. Cheers coflet...sorry I missed this post for a while. THats interesting...maybe I misunderstood the quote for my Beta fork stancions. If its 100 quid for a PAIR on Beta...its worth knowing. I'll try to find out. SOunds like you got a good deal there though!.............mmmmmm...maybe I should switch to Gas Gas?
  7. Yep..they definately gave up on the Norton too easily. Nearly brought a tear to my eyes
  8. Awww man!!!!!!! Ishy that bike is BEAUTIFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I'm going nuts. GOt no dosh now, but would love to restore the said bike having seen your pics.. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH. IF..I can ever afford it, do you reckon I could get parts Ishy??...I would need tank/seat unti to start with, since it doesnt have one. Coflet...If I cant afford it, and the guy WANTS to sell it, I'll let you know Postage is cheap from here...could post almost a whole bike for about 200 quid...(in bits!!) ISHY..did they only make this bike in 1992 or for more years?
  9. gregkabob.. BOB is right..just follow his advice. There was no wire mesh around mine..but that dont matter! You only have to take off the black plastic end piece to start working on it. Undo the 2? or 3 screws to take off the plastic bit. Keep trying..(bit of wiggling etc) 'cause the black bit sometimes is quite hard to take off/put on. If the bikes new to you..definately worth changing all those kind of things, that you dont know when they were done...especially things like this that wont cost TOO much. Good Luck

    Beta Radiator

Pleased you got it sorted bob..and that you didnt end up just using zip ties. At least your Beta will still look Boootifull now!! ...DOnt be too hard on yer dealer mate..after all, even on here we couldnt all agree what they're called!!...at least now, you know every name possible for next time!
  11. gregkabob... I'm 99.9 percent sure that my Rev3 02 is NOT like that. I would guess its some kind of mod that a previous owner did?? Be patient..you're sure to get some good info regarding this. THere are some very good posters on this forum. Luckily most of them know more than me!!
  12. Thanks HondaRS The main thing that confused me is (dont laugh..'cause I'm probably being a right doughnut now!!...((dont know much about engines!)) ) BUT...it LOOKS like it is a two stroke??..and the other TLMs in Hong Kong that I've seen are all four strokes. Would it be a 2 stroke?..

    Beta 1997

Hi all, Have a friend here with a spare (used) Techno frame and swingarm off a 1997 model. Just wondered..is there much of a market for frames and or swingarms, for sale...and if so, what do you reckon it might be worth?? The owner may consider putting it up for sale on here or e-bay. THanks for any help

    Tlm 260rf

HIya.. Found a Honda here (minus fuel tank and seat unit) on the frame badge it says TLM 260RF Cant find any info on the internet of this model. Can any of you tell me anything about it?? Would it be worth trying to get hold of to restore? Would I be able to get hold of parts? Thanks in advance for any help. Its not for sale YET..but I know who owns it...it has been sitting in a shed for about 3 years untouched
  15. If you still consider a full hydraulic table one..Machine Mart have a special offer on theirs at the moment. Only about 30 quid off I think...but its a fairly reasonably priced one anyway.
  16. Oh man...dont get me started on all of this!!!!!! Ishy..what do you mean they cant spend their money?...and toofasttim...I guess China is SLOWLY joining the west in some ways..(I guess you mean politically?) but in some other ways they are joining VERY quickly. Agree with you dabster..but to anyone else out there buying goods they THINK are made in their home country.....beware..there's alot of tricks to making them in China and then labelling it as if its made elsewhere. I THINK there are one or two famous named trials items already doing that...(I repeat..I THINK!!!!!!!!!) Anyway..its fun hearing all of this, since I;m here. A little story along the lines of Ishys post..(which is REALLY true!!) My mate has 2 factorys in China..and sells stuff to Woolworths/Early Learning Centre etc. Several times he has wandered into a street market in China, and found a product for sale that is HIS product, and one that he hasnt even released yet. COPIED by his OWN workers..probably even using his own tools etc etc!! Believe me....they will copy ANYTHING in this part of the world!!!!!!!! ANYTHING!!!>..I even once found a copy squash racket for sale!

    Beta Radiator

bob..sorry I missed this post for a couple of days. Cant help you with advice on the header pipe either sorry...but I can say that you'll have to telephone BVM to complete an order, and the silent block, isnt on their website..so just give em a call...they usually have some in stock. Pleased your gonna treat yer Beta to some new 'uns!
  18. craftypiggy..I can do it in about an hour now..but the first time probably took me about 3 or 4!!!!!!..........DOH!
  19. craftypiggy...I will try again...but basically what boofont says. Start at the caliper...(next to disc)...put filled syringe into the nipple hole...undo the nipple bolt, and push the syringe down..therefore pushing the new fluid into the system. You have to..or course open the reservoir lid first..to let the fluid overflow. Rear one is where boofont says...front reservoir is up on the handlebar. If you use DOT 5.1 (little bit expensive) you can let it overflow...it wont damage any paintwork etc. Once you can see the new fluid entering the reservoir...(can be seen by change of clour)...let the reservoir be full of the new fluid, and then close the bleed bolt at the nipple on the calliper..and remove the syringe. Replace diaphragm and cap on the reservoir and away you go. Its easy..quick and always works great for me. Best of all, if there IS any air in the system it will always want to go UP...so because you are reverse bleeding it will just bubble out of the reservoir. With traditional bleeding (if there is air in the system) it is very difficult because you are trying to push the air DOWN and out of the system...which is really defying the laws of science! GOOD LUCK.....hope this helped!
  20. ERIC..I'm green with envy too...and apparently the guy just WONT sell it....cant blame him. Also saw the film Motorcycle Diaries...amazing I thought,...and a real lesson about life to us all!...shame the Norton only got the first half of the film!
  21. Theres only 2 or 3 05 Betas in Hong kong..and i KNOW one of those has already broken the front mudguard. Maybe there IS a fault??
  22. Lloyd..I think I didnt explain it very well...'cause Im a bit confused by your last post. Gotta get some shut eye now..but I'll try to explain it a bit better tommorow.
  23. Hi all... Just thought some of you might like to feast your eyes on this bike I shouldnt really post the pic, 'cause the owner doesnt know I even took it, but the guy who was servicing it, reckoned he wouldnt mind. Its been here in Hong Kong since it was new apparently..pre war engine and post war frame I was told by the mechanic working on it. Pretty nice eh!...wish it was mine!
  24. Social Climber...that reminds me of a question I've been meaning to ask for ages. I use DOT 5.1 which doesnt matter if you spill it..for the very reason you mention above...so I just let it all spill all over the place and rinse down afterwards..no problems. BUT..I wanna ask you lot. Would DOT 5.1 be OK. the book says DOT 5...seems to work fine. see ya
