Was the alloy swinging arm sold on flea bay or was it pulled at the last minute like the new petrol tank before Christmas? Must be a bit irritating if you are bidding on these parts?

  3. Thanks for the info, this differs from the one I am looking at (or have got to look at - its try before you buy time), this is located on the front wheel spindle and uses the locating 'bar' or tag for the brake drum to hold the calliper in place. this one is stamped Shirty and uses a Grimerca twin piston calliper. I only got it this afternoon and have thrown in in to a shed along with the bike. John M may be correct - I will confirm when I have looked at it properly but I would rather avoid making a steel bracket from scratch, which I have the equipment to do if necessary because the Honda is heavy enough as it is!
  4. You will need a reflector horn & number plate there is an excellent website which gives full MOT regs - cant remember link though You will need a reflector horn & number plate there is an excellent website which gives full MOT regs - cant remember link though
  5. Does anyone have the alloy bracket used to mount the calliper for the Shirt front disk conversion as used on a TY250 mono? I have just picked up a conversion set from a TY in which the mounting bracket has broken, I may be able to make something up but it would save a lot of hastle if I could get a replacement bracket. I intend to fit the brake to a TLR250 Golner Honda, supposedly they are a direct fit. Gordon

Interesting list - most seems to be common sense but the comment about a carb being designed to leak fuel is worrying! Good luck in the SSDT Mr B!

    Tlr Shocks

has anyone tried a modified swinginf arm on a 250 or 200 to allow shorter shocks to be used by positioning the shocks closer to the swinging arm pivot. I have a spare swinging arm and I am looking at trying this with some betors or similar, there is less chance of these shorter shocks bending if/when the bike falls over and the shock ends up lying on a rock!
  8. Many of the bikes in the National Motprcycle Museaum which have been 'restored' after the fire are like Robert the Bruces axe - 5 new shafts and 3 new heads yet still are 'original' bikes???? 15 years ago the museum was well worth a visit, many historic competition bikes and road bikes which had been leant by unsuspecting owners. After the fire many of these bikes, someones pride and joy were destroyed by penny pinching on a fire protection system. I vaguely remember they turned out to be uninsured by the museum. I prefer seeing veteran, vinatge and exotic classic bikes in good semi-original condition rather than a bike which has been rebuilt to better than new and will never be ran!

    Honda Tlr 200

The plates to fit are CG125 ones - Appleyarde used to sell them in preference to anything else. Remember the TLR200 & 250 clutch is the same design as CB125, XL125 etc. These bikes are road bikes which take a lot less punishement than a TLR clutch when used in competition. The tLR250 has stronger springs than the other bikes - look through some previous posts. If you are hard on a tLR clutch you will soon realise it is pretty borderline - I have had the play in the cable increase when the clutch is beeing worked hard but it soon returns to 'normal' after a run between sections. Dont adjust the clutch cable to compensate - you will end up with a slipping clutch.
  10. Cant remember chain length but the difference between a 104 and 100 link chain would be obviousle. The new chain will be tight - have you pushed down the chain tensioner to fully slacken it? Its certainly noticable on a 250 and 200 if you fit a thicker base gasket that the chain is very tight whrn first fitted. AS for bottom end try for up and down play on the ignition flywheel - if there is any strip and replace bearings, they are expensove being Honda one off's rather than std sizes . Gordon
  11. I used a TLR250 for about 5 years - maintenance was a regular oil change, filter clean and a chain / sprockets and plug when required. I wonder how much work and money you would spend you would have to do to keep a G** G**, Beta or Sherco running over that amout of use - Spanish and Italian 2 strokes are not built to last!
  12. If the back plate moves buy a tin of iron bru and cut a strip of tin or alloy to slip over the locating boss on the forks, this will remove the movement. If the alloy in iron bru tins is no good try cutting open an old wd40 tin or similar.

There is one good thing with the original levers They are very strong and bend rather than break - nice and easy to straighten with a blow torch. much better than the majority of the aftermarket ones but

  15. You can do this with a simple hand held GPS system, this will record position, speed, time and elevation (although elevation aint as accurate). Average speed, maximum speed, time, distance etc are all displayed. I have a Garmin Etrek, its waterproof.and you can get a mount to fit on a bike handlebar. It doesnot display a map without playing around with extra software but you can follow your track in reverse wuite easily. I have used it on various bikes and played around at plotting the data on various mapping programs, its great for checking speedos as well. They are really meant for hill walkers where you can enter waypoints on a route and check you are going in correct direction. There are numerous freeware or shareware software programmes you can use to interogate and convert data formats. Gordon

    Manx 2 Day

I spoke to the Steam Packet today regarding time changes my sailing for the MGP, seems that the Seacat 2 has engine problems and is running down on power, hence a retiming of many sailings. Not a lot you can do. Gordon
  17. Why are Gas Gas and Sherco sold after only one year - perhaps the owners know after a couple of years they are worn out?
  18. As far as I understand the differences are 1 Forks - Reflex 33mm diameter, some TLR200's are 35mm, as 250 but different internals & less travel. I suspect some TLR 200's are also 33mm but I might be wrong. 2 Given above yokes (sp?) or tripple trees to out cousins across the pond are obviously different. 3 Wheel Rims - Reflex have chrome rims, TLR200 has gold alloy rims (guaranteed to corrode). Dont know about rim widths and spindle diameters but brakes are same 4 Dont know what the tank difference is - its not colour since some TLR200's have white tanks & plastics as well - I have one! 5 My TLR200 has full road gear except indivcators, interestingly my 250 has different road gear. 6 Gearbox - are the ratios different? - I doubt it but perhaps someone can confirm, the difference is likely to be final drive ratios. Gordon If someone has other differences I have a TLR200 microficge and the reflex one is online so its easy enough to compare.
  19. The drum probably needs skimmed true BUT the problem with this is the shoes will be a smaller diameter tha the drum. The other answer is to fit a disk!
  20. A good one and oh so very true! Melbourne Age, Australia (AP) A seven year old boy was at the centre of a courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy, whose name was suppressed by the court, has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with the child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible. However, the boy surprised the court when he made an unsworn statement to the effect that his aunt beat him more than his parents and his lawyers declared that he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy's lawyer told the court that they also used to beat him. After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the English Soccer Team, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone. Amazing isn't how many jokes there are at the expense of the English team.................................wonder why?
  21. Wonder how many would have been arrested and how much damage would be done if the police had not stopped the known yobs travelling to follow THEIR country? Just remember foreign countried look forward to Scottish Football fans aka the tartan army travelling to their contry - yes a lot of drink will probably be consumed but very few will be arrested and little damage will be done.
  22. The difference between the Scottish Fans and team from the English team / fans / press is that it is not the winning but the taking part that counts. have a look at the behaviour of the English team in their lst match - 22 fouls, 1 sending off compared to 10 fouls from the oposition. - does that make you proud? If the rare occasion occurs that Scotland does qualify for the World Cup how many of the Scots fans would be classed as potential troublemakers and be forced to hand in their passports - not a lot! There would be little or no need for police spotters to ideftify potentil troublemers at a match either. Perhaps its just that Scots (also Welsh, Irish and Manx - all in UK) are staunchly proud of their countries heritage and don't want to lose it - nothing riles us more than being called English, many seem to be using England as a synonym for Britain, be it press or TV or tourists to the country (English tourists included). Perhaps when Boofont has been in the North East for another 8 years he will lose his accent, wear a kilt and start putting the Saltire on his bike / helmet - then again, perhaps not. He should look at himself as a potential missionary in a foreign land??? I did when i was unfortunate enough to live South of the border, then again Mr B is fortunate enough to be living in Scotland so I guess he is gradually erning the way of a civilised country.......................
  23. Then again he is doing a lot better than the pride of middle Engerland Tim henman! Hate Tennis - ladies tennis I can watch but have noticed Murray is proud to show his nationality so good luck to him! Wonder whn the commentators will change from Murray being Scottish to British (which he is) or even worse as normal happens English.
  24. Got to agree with you there Mr B. A bit of light hearted banter is fair enough I hope you still agree, just a pity that some dont know where to stop.
