  1. What year ? Ive just paid £1200 for a 1983 MH123. Never been trialed with original road kit.
  2. Hi there. I've got an early 80's MH123. Is it exactly the same bike as the MH200 except for the barrell ? Also are any of the other size bikes sharing the same chassis / engine parts. There is a guy breaking a 200 on e bay at the moment.
  3. Taffs well (Ty Rhiw) is both trials, moto x and 4 x4. There are some good sections for all abilities. There is a massive stream section which goes on for a few hundred metres. Enjoy. There are some really friendly clubs near you i.e. Merthyr, Gwent, Pontypool. They have got some great venues. Join one of these. Everybody falls off and laughs at each other. It is part of the fun. You could go along and be an observer if you want to learn about technique. I would join you but I am laid up injured at the moment after a big tumble in feb.
  4. Thanks for the responses. It's a lovely looking bike and still has the road going gear. I don't think it's seen much trials. Paid £1200 for it and it needs nothing. I may put some trick shocks on it though. I would be interested to hear of any good mods that can be done to the bike. I've bought it as I had a serious injury riding in feb and Ive decided not to compete anymore. But I would like to marshall a bit and I will use it to ride round the sections whilst doing that. Nice to give something back.
  5. I've been offered a early 80's Montesa 123. It's got full size wheels i.e. 18 & 21. I haven't seen the bike as it is some distance away. Is it a pretty much full sized bike or is it a smaller youth frame ? I don't know much about Monts to be honest. Help would be appreciated as it would save me a wasted journey.
  6. I know it's a different part of the body but I did my knee three months ago. I tore my ACL, MCL and patela tendon. I'm only 36 but I've decided thats it for me and trials. I have only just come off crutches, may have to have yet another operation and it will be a total of 6 months before Im allowed back to work. I think you have to respect the medical profession a bit more. I work in anaesthetics and when my orthopaedic surgeon told me not to ride again I took it on board. If you fall again and damage the same area it is more cost to the NHS and an even longer recovery. I worked out the other day (I am that bored just lying down with my leg elevated all day) how much my injury has allready cost the NHS from ambulance, surgery, cost of replacing me in theatre for six months, physio, countless visits to trauma clinic and 2 days as an inpatient. Lets just say you could buy a small house near me. It's the same argument for why bother treating smokers or alcoholics if they continue to destroy their bodies. I'm probably going to annoy a lot of people for writing this but it's just my opinion. In the meantime, I hope you make a speedy recovery from your injuries.
  7. Could be worth trying ATF fluid in the gearbox. This helps smooth out the gear selection. The rear brake is a bugger to bleed on the rev 3. I use to backbleed it too. Seemed to work better than a top down approach.
  8. Couldn't you increase the hieght of the brake pedal stopper (the threaded bolt which screws upside down into the frame which stops the pedal hitting the frame) and then back off the distance of the pushrod into the brake piston. This is done by unscrewing the nut and shortening the distance of the pushrod. This would lower the height of the pedal without increasing pressure within the brake system. I maybe wrong but Im sure it would lower brake height.
  9. I restored a ty175 about 2 years ago as I too had one when I was a kid. They are pretty bullet proof to be honest. Have a check for any phantom gears on the gear selector. Check the swing arm spindle isn't seized in the swing arm. Check the clutch cover by the kickstart as this often gets bashed by the kicstart. There is a shop called TY trials which sells pretty much everything you may ever need. Sammy Miller does some nice stuff too as does the Twinshock shop. I sourced a lot of spares from e bay too. Theres also a haynes manual for this bike too which is dead helpfull. I hope this helps.
  10. Hi there. Very interested in your opionion. I too work in the medical world but as an anaesthetics nurse. Thankfully the consultant Im under is good as I've seen his work first hand in theatre. What advice would you give about physio and in particular self administered physio pre op ? Im currently in a hinged brace set to 0 degrees flex and ext. My knee gives out without this. I've been told ill be within this parameter for 2 weeks and then 20 degrees. I feel that my leg is allready starting to contract. Should I be doing any stretching excercises to prevent this ?
  11. Thanks very much for all of your advice. Looks like it's going to be a long road to recovery but at least it sounds like people do return to trials.
  12. Sadly whilst practicing last friday I snapped my anterior crucia ligament and damaged the knee in general. Knee is like a balloon and I am non weight bearing. Surgery will be once the swelling has gone down. Was just wondering if anybody else has done the same and how soon did they return to trials afterwards, if they did at all ? Also what sort of knee braces do people use ?
  13. Apologies if Ive posted this in the wrong section, but does anybody know if the sunday trial is on or has it fallen victim to the snow ? It will save me getting up early if i know it is off. Can't get an answer from the club number. Gareth
  14. Thanks for all the responses. Some good points made.
  15. I know people are going to ask why but I want to fit some sort of lifting strap to my evo onto the two rear bolts that hold the rear mudguard on. I constantly have to lift my bike up either onto the bike rack or through the house and into the workshop. I hate having to lift it up by the silencer as it probably isnt doing it any favours. Ive searched everywhere for such a strap and can't find them anywhere except in America. I had one on my moto x bike when I was a kid so they do exist. Does anybody know where I can get one from ? Gareth
  16. Thanks everybody (even jason). When I took apart the old switch it made sense. Black to black and black / white to black /white. All wired in and working. Feel happier about flipping it now.
  17. Hi there, after 3 hours use the kill switch died on my new Beta Evo. As I bought the bike from a shop many miles away they kindly sent me a new KX style kill switch in the post. I'm mildly competent with electronics but just want to check before I do anything. I was going to cut into the wires above the plug connection where the kill switch cable plugs into the main wiring loom. I want to do this so that I can unplug my kill swich if I need to without having to cut into the wires again. This is located behind the headlight. I wish to retain the headlight and the headlight switch. Am I correct in thinking that the KX kill switch is simply a 'push to off switch' ? Therefor the two wires can simply be connected to the two wires that were going to the original kill switch. I'm geussing that if I get them round the wong way, I would have to push the kill switch for the bike to fire and release the kill switch to kill it. The only thing that confuses me is that the KX kill switch has a male type push connector on one lead and an earth type ring connctor on the other lead. Has anybody wired one of these in ? Gareth
  18. I was asking if rev 4 wheel fitted an Evo 4t not a rev 3
  19. Hi there. Im selling my 08 Rev 4 and all the parts I've accumulated with it over the years. I've got a spare rear wheel. Does anybody know if it will fit the Evo 4t model ? I'm sure it does but I want to make sure before I advertise it as doing so. Thanks.
  20. Thanks for all the advice. I thought they were wrong. Just annoyed as Im putting the bike for sale today as Ive bought a new evo. None of my local bike shops sell these pads so I am forced to use mail order. Will just have to wait.
  21. No worries. Thanks for the advice on running in my new evo though.
  22. What ? Surely the whole reason I posted on here was because I knew they diddn't look like the last ones !!!
  23. Just been sent a set rear pads for my 08 Rev 4 and im sure they won't fit. Shop insist they are the ones. They are goldfren type number 228. This has happened before too with another shop. Basically the pad sent to me has it's calliper pin hole offset to the rear of the pad and not in the middle of the pad like the ones Ive used before. I don't want to open them to see if they will fit. I would be suprised if they do as the callipers piston is in the middle of the calliper like the pads I allready have in there. Anybody used them or are they tottally the wrong pads ?
  24. Going to be taking delivery of a new Evo 250 in the next week. I've never had a new bike before. How do people run in new engines ? Advice about duration and style of running in would be appreciated as well as oil ratios for new engines.
