    Fantic 50

Hi Ross.Good score at Abington on sunday.Did you enjoy it? Thinking of the pushrod motor myself.Lots of Brazil built CG125's about and the motor is pretty robust. Gearing, exhaust and electrics are probably the main problems I think, other then actually mounting the engine in the frame. Would I need a battery? A small dry cell would be easy to locate as I would use a K&N type filter so plenty of space where the airbox should go. Do these motors plonk low down for trials? Gearing would have to be trial and error, large sprocket on the back and not much speed but would only be for club/fun trials anyway.

    Fantic 50

Thanks for this. Did you have to cut the frame to make the Honda engine fit? I do not want to cut the frame up much if possible. What engine did you use? a CG overhead valve or a CB overhead cam?

    Fantic 50

I have just acquired a Fantic 50 from a friend of mine for the right price ie. Free. It is pretty rough and has a few bits missing.Compression seems good and it was running a few months ago.allegedly. Anyone on here know much about them? Spares availability etc. I do not have a lot of cash at the moment so would be a long term project.I do not know if it is worth re-building,how much power do they have? My boy is 9 at the moment but he would need to be a lot taller to use the Fantic. It is almost the height of my Sherpa. I am thinking of taking the Fantic motor out and maybe fitting a Honda type 125 4-stroke engine in it.Would make an interesting, lightweight twinshock. Airbox and side panels are the main bits missing though the forks are shot and the shocks are fit for the bin. Ayone any experience of these?
  5. Just doing the results from a fine weekend. Thanks to everyone who helped out over the weekend, usual problems with a shortage of observers. Thanks to those who did. A bit more help setting out and gathering in markers and flags would be much appreciated though. My apologies for my hungover state on sunday morning,Hughie and Colin forced whisky down my throat on saturday night! Thanks to all the riders who turned up,the small number (45)makes my job easier but a better entry would make it worth all the effort that goes in. A great piece of ground,a good run across the moor on sunday, sensible sections and 2 different (almost) trials not the same sections on both days. What more could you ask for?
  6. I'm sorry I missed this trial this year as I rode last year (on saturday at least until I hurt myself). My poor finances dictated that I could not afford a 2-day trip to the Highlands.(my Husky motocross engine self-destructing recently did not help) Glad to hear it went well.Maybe next year.
  7. Entries are a bit low for this. Anyone looking for an entry, give me a phone. Davie.
  8. Sure Ross,no problem.Just mark on the entry form what day and send me
  9. I am taking entries now for the SCRMC Abington 2-day trial.A,B and C routes with classes for everyone. Sensible sections with a short route on saturday and a longer run across the moor on sunday. Camping available at the start. Plenty of space left, regs and entry forms on here at Trials Central in the whats on or at www.classicscramble.com or phone me on 01465715723 or 07738584849.
  10. Putoline MX5 @ 50:1 in my 1977 Sherpa 250,and 40:1 in my 1983 Husqvarna CR250.
  11. Fame at last! I'm standing at the start with my mate Hughie 3:03 in. Thanks.
  12. Started the new season today with the Scottish Classic Racing MC at Forfar. Great track, great weather,my Husky 250 ran perfectly. And I wasn't last. A great day out.
  13. Great trial last sunday, perfect weather. Thanks to all who helped out,Steven Mycock and Iain Shankie on saturday. All officials and observers on sunday. Alan Scott for all his help with the signing on,results etc. I personally think the sections were just right, quite low scores but marks were taken on all classes and routes.Only 2 people went clean all day. The Youth A winner lost 11 so no problems there,ok some of the sections were on the easy side for some of the top riders but most of the entry went away happy. Opinions all welcome. The new marking system seemed to work fine,a few comments. Took a bit longer to set out but just needs a tweak or 2.Thanks to Iain Shankie for this.
  14. Cancel that John,Agnes has a few spares and will send me one.
  15. Thanks John,I think Alan Scott has a paper copy as he is also secretary for S.C.R.M.C. Do you know if it is one per club as we now have 2 secretaries, myself and Alan. My own copy would be handy if Alan is not available. We live at opposite ends of the country, almost.
  16. I would love to see a Scot win. No pressure guys.
  17. Your right,no need for the language, sorry. Just trying to make the point that no matter how many routes and hard you work, you cannot please everyone all the time. I'm off to Balfron early tomorrow to start work. See you all on sunday, weather permitting. I will be on my best behaviour, honest.
  18. Its ok Donald,I really didn't know who it was and was having a joke. I think Big John appreciated this. Funny how C of C Graham didn't think it was said in jest.Maybe because he spend a few hours on the saturday setting the trial out ,then spent a good hour on sunday morning with his dad and myself changing some things to ensure everyone had a day out as the ground was white with snow. Then stayed behind to clear up afterwards. It takes a lot of work to give everyone a day out on their bike,as I'm sure you know Donald.
  19. I use 50:1 with modern fully synthetic 2 stroke oil.
  20. I got my CD today. Are we getting both CD and handbook?I hope so as I need a book to take to events in case I am asked a question.I have no laptop. I thought you had to ask for a CD?
  21. How do you know this? I do not even know who it was.Was it you?
  22. I quite agree Ross,we have the same problem with the Classic Club. Do we set out for the old bikes then make it too easy for some of the modern riders or set out harder for the modern bikes, which make up the majority of the entry, then get complaints it is too severe for the few old bikes that turn up.You cannot please everyone. Saying that,we had a complaint from a certain rider last year that our A route at Balfron was too easy.He finished on a score of 8 I think,3 slack dabs not concentrating and a 5 at the last muddy hillclimb section. If he was clean all day then ok,but to finish on 8!I only heard about this later,if he had told me I would have told the big-headed .... to f... off!
  23. ThIs weekend we have our round of the S.A.C.U. support championship i.e. 0ver 40,youth and combined pre-65/twinshock. Out of an entry of almost 90 I have 7 pre-65 and 11 twinshocks.I don't think anyone is that interested. Is this not the reason why the classes were combined? Pesonally speaking I do not travel that far to any trials so would not go to Aberdeen area or Inverness for a National trial.Though I ride scrambles as well and cash is short so I am not a good example. I hope to be at Alvie for the Highland Classic though.
  24. A healthy 87 entries. A lot of work for me,first time secretary. Looking forward to a good day out. Now on to saturday and setting out.
  25. I think Twinshocks must be the in thing in the North East,I have 9 entered out of an entry of 63 for the Balfron round of the support championship. Glad your day went well, the good weather always helps.
