  1. Thanks Ross, got your entry. You are pre'65 number 2. Entries up to 54 now.
  2. Entries now up to 34. Still not great. Only 1 pre-'65.
  3. I have done one without removing the shaft,a bit awkward but can be done. Plenty strength needed to pre-load the spring and force it through the hole in the shaft. Good luck.
  4. One week to go until entries close and I have 20 so far. Only 1 pre-'65.2 weeks before the Scottish an ideal chance to shake down your bike. How many Scottish riders have an entry for the Scottish? 20 or so?
  5. The regs are now out for the Scottish Classic Racing Motorcycle Club's Balfron trial on April 5th. This is a round of the support championship and has classes for Youth A,Youth B,Youth C,Over 40,Twinshock,Pre-65,Novice and Non-Expert run over 3 routes. There is also an A route for anyone just wanting a ride round and a challenge. Entry fee is a reasonable

  7. As far as I can remember you must split the cases.
  8. Yes,I used to have one.
  9. Couls also be the frame of a 198b 250.They are pretty rare also.
  10. When are you coming north of the border to visit us again? Are you still writing?
  11. Did he used to write for some custom type motorcycle magazines,Back Street Heroes or something like that? He came north of the border a few years back to the Scottich Classic Motorcycle Racing Club's big trial and scramble at Thornhill in July, maybe 6 or 7 years ago.I never watched the scramble but I rode the trial and seem to remember he was a good rider. I'm sure I have seen him at the Scottish pre-'65 a few years back. Definately a character.
  12. I've never ridden the Sherco so cannot comment but a friend of mine who was new to trials but had ridden road bikes for many years wanted a trials bike.He was talked into a 270 gasser as he was a bit heavy and tall. The guys in the shop he bought it from must have been laughing for days after. The gasser was great fun for blasting up hills and pulling big wheelies, but in a section, forget it.The power came on and off like a switch.Far too powerful and uncontrollable. If you want to take up trials, save your cash and find a good 200 beta.
  13. Big John at Robregordo, from the latest issue of Classic Dirt Bike. Not a great photo, best I can do.
  14. I'm trying but the file is too large.I'm not so good at this.Need some help.
  15. There is a review of last year's event in this issue of Classic Dirt Bike. There is even a photo of our own Big John.(Looks like he is tampering with his his punch card )
  16. Looks like your garden when you have emptied the shed John.
  17. I help Graham Miller mark out trials for the SCRMC,a few of you an here probably know who I am. We only run one trial where this would affect us ,Balfron,a round of the support championship. We set out as follows, the basic route is red on the right, blue on the left.Any A route deviations are clearly marked double yellow cards and any C route are marked in double white markers.Only 3 routes A,B and C. Some of the sections have no deviations, just one route suitable for all. With this new system any section like this would have to have 4 coloured markers either side to let everyone know this route is suitable for all. To set out a trial with 4 separate routes would take a long time. All the club trials we set out are marked the same as this with a main route, with deviations for A and C classes. The A class may be only a large boulder etc. to go over where it would be too difficult fot everyone else.Same with the C route,it may take an easier route than everyone else. Also Graham has told me he has tried green markers in the past but riders found them hard to see if there was grass around them.We at present do not have any green markers,we have all the other colours so would have to purchase green ones for use at one trial a season.
  18. Got to agree there Dave.Pretty easy job, only hassle is having to take the clutch and primary chain off with the flywheel. On my Husky scrambler the right hand seal is inboard so if it goes the cases have to be split to change it.Needless to say the last time I had to split the cases for gearbox work,I changed the seal anyway.

  20. I have a Whitehawk ty80 for my boy. The frame is a lot larger than the standard bike, wheel sizes are 20'' front ,17'' rear. Forks are standard ty80 but with special parts added at the bottom of the fork legs that place the wheel spindle lower and forward.Quite neat. Mine has a red one piece tank and seat unit made from fibreglass. The bike is too big for my boy at the moment (he is 8 and average height but can only just touch the ground with his toes whilst seated.) He has ridden it once, first time with gears so I have no idea how it handles etc. Gearing seems good and low,it has a very large rear sprocket. The frame is Chrome plated,it reminds me of a smaller version of a Miller Highboy Bultaco frame.(I used to own one) The one on E-bay looks like a Whitehawk frame minus the fork extensions with a different tank and seat used. His 8 year old boy must be a lot taller than mine!
  21. Some good advice there. Mine would be to fit a cut-out switch. I always have one on all my bikes.Very important and take away the need to take the plug cap off and risk a shock.
  22. I know your gasser is watercooled. Its my husky that is aircooled! Doesn't matter whether it is cable or hydraulic, its the clutch plates that are aluminium or steel.
