Youve probably got your MOT by now, but for what its worth, thighten the cables right up till there is vitually no play. I dont clean the braking surface in the hubleaving it to go rusty, crude but improves the braking enough to pass !

Hi Michael Sorry havn't been on this thread recently, the KT I had was fine off road, but at the time I also used it for transport, and on over run would bang quite alarmingly (not in the exhaust, in the cylinder) I did have it running for a short time with no side electrode ! But compromised with a huge gap. Never found power to be a problem, but then my previouse bike was a TL125, with a 60 tooth rear sprocket. Regards Ross

Hi swoshdave Sorry I havnt checked this thread recently, I bought my KT new from the then Edinburgh Kawasaki dealer, so I feel that the handling observations I made (rightly or wrongly) were inherant. One of the technicians at Napier College who also had one went to the extent of building a new frame. Monoshock no less. He also did alot of engine work, but unfortunatly I never rod it so cant coment on how it performed. The only problem (apart from the crap side stand) I had was it ran out of sparks, the cure was to remove the CDI unit and sit it on a radiator for a few days. Regards Ross

I would agree with the above, according to "experts" by the time you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated to an extent. I try to eat and drink constantly during longer and hotter events.

Hi John I would ride alot more often if there were more pre 65 trials (your comments elsewhere are spot on) Definatly planning on coming next year. Going down to Kendal on 16 / 17 August, heard its really good, and a bit of a challange ! Trial on Saturday, Scramble on Sunday. Ross

In my limited experience all tyres are good when new, Michelin's seem to be good for longer ! I always run 4.5lbs rear and 5 in front. Tried softer and harder but always come back to these pressures.

If you use this method only change one bearing at a time, (to keep the axle square) and never be tempted to hit the axle as this put the load through the centre / bearing, rather than the outside of the bearing.

Take the plug out and kick over. Check plug for signs of water. Drain carb. Clean check air filter.

Agree with other comments. I use a metal rod approx 10 mm x 300mm, push through from one side and lever the central spacer gently untill you can start gently tapping the bearing out. Go round & round so the bearing stays square to the hub. When replacing with new I use a brass drift, this will do less damage if you do hit the hub. When replacing the bearing try only to drift it in around the outside ie the surface that fits into the hub. (remember to replace the central spacer having cleaned it and covered in a coat of grease)

Like every one else said, quite common on Bultaco's, basically if the timing isnt spot on, and you give it a half harted kick, the piston doesnt go over TDC and fires in the wrong direction. Moral of the story - ease the clutch out.

I agree with all the others, to speed thingd up, if you can get them on. stand in a river untill they are saturated, walk about untill they soften up. When they are about half dry put any oil based treatment on and stuff with paper. This tends to draw the oil right into the leather. They should be fine.

Go to any large cycling shop, mountain bike jackets have to do all the things you ask for, and there is a huge selection to choose from. How good it is depends on how deep your pockets are !

What exactly were you looking for when you came across this ?

I've heard good reports about PVL, but found it hard to believe it could be much better than my existing Boyer system. What you say seems to confirm this. I have seen some B40's with a smalley primary chain chase (off a C15?) which narrow the engine significantly, which may be the major advantage. Many thanks. Any more info ??
