Buy the best condition 250 you can find /afford.All brands have their weak points ie.Beta electrics,Gas Gas transmission/kickstart gear,Sherco general poorer quality, seem to get tired sooner than the others.Genarally bikes from the south have an easier time than northern ones, rocks are harder on abike than southern woodland.Look for a bike with an owner that knows how to maintain it,and take a mechanicly minded mate with you Good luck
-
DON'T BOTHER,it'll cost far more than you think, and it'll onlly ever be a ty175.spend on something far more recent,it'll be cheaper and more enjoyable/competive/lighterand easier to buy parts for.Old bikes are moneypits, and you don't get it back.Ask me how I know
-
Probably just the subframe wants tweaking, take a lot to bend a frame that much.Does it ride straight or pull to one side? If it rides right I wouldn't worry about it,
-
Broke mine badly and was out for 3 months,Break was healed sooner than that but took a fair bit or physio and exercise to regain the strength and full movement.Don't try and return too soon, got to be right,it'll let you know when
-
Damping takes a big hit better, and is more plush with better feel on the smaller stuff.Damping is adjustable, make as slow or fast as you like.Better build quality, maybe slightly lighter
-
They aren't that good on a Beta, not worth the effort.Keihin or Dellorto would be much better
-
Great bike from 2009 with the newer frame, much better than 2008.Buy the best condition one you can find, some have been ridden/abused and cost too much to put right.Check rear linkage bearings for wear, and ride it to check gear selection. Some of them develop an awful 4/5 and 5/4 gearchange with a loud clunk.Clutch rattles in neutral, pull it in and noise goes.Motor should be quiet other than this with plenty of power, probably the pokiest 250 of that year.Check the brackets on the exhaust middle box, they sometimes need rewelding.Ask theowner how often the gearoil gets changed, its best to change it every 4 trials as it also lubes the main bearings, they don't last long with dirty oil.Get a good one and you'll love it
-
definetly better, depends on how good/rich you are whether its worth spending the money,The standard shock's good enough for most, but benefits from a heavier spring from sxs if you're 13 stone +
-
Its not a bad price for a new wheel, but a lot for a spare bearing in mind you'll need a tyre too
-
Hi,anybody know if a rear shock from a gas gas pro will fit my 2010 beta evo.The damping on mine is very poor,is this the way they are?I'm wondering whether its better to get my shock looked at:{if so ,who}or look around for a replacement. Thanks in advance
-
Hi Tony, think you'd be better off going for something more popular and waiting till you've got more like
-
Hi ,am going to head for Rushlake green from Heathfield, and hope to see some signs
-
Bikes this cheap often need a lot of money and time put into them, which you don't get back.I'd wait till I could spend
-
Surely if you can buy it soon it is a 2011 bike.Getting a bit silly offering it as a 2012 when we're not even halfway through the year
-
If it rides as well as it looks, you can't go wrong.I would view it,and take what you're prepared to pay for it with you.Arrange a deal there and bring it home with you, better than than being outbid in the last 15 seconds on ebay, good luck
-
Seems to me spring happens later now,how about starting the series in April in the south, perhaps running into October to finish if necessary.Events this hard frustrate most of the entry and are not the way to encourage riders to ride this championship.I'm not blaming the club,I've laid out events and had the weather ruin them too,it just makes it pointless for all concerned
-
I think it would work, tho you might need the spindle to be steel .Never seen the effect of running alloy in a bronze bush, doesn,t mean it wouldn't work tho
-
Bet the linkage is semi seized, zap all the pivots with wd 40,should free it off to prove the point.Seems like the bearings and bushes are going to need replacing, then grease them monthly in the winter.
-
Don,t think a 290 evo on either setting is going to be calm enough for someone new to trials. It's a very difficult sport, you'll have a much easier time on a 250
-
If you get caught stealing 4k from a shop/bank ,you'll get prison.Nick someone's pride and joy of the same value and you're unlikely to be caught, and if you are it's hard to prove it's stolen.About time the law came down hard on these scum
-
Undo and remove allen key headed nut[10mm I think] on brake side of forks, undo spindle pinchbolts on both forklegs, the spindle pushes out to the right. You don't need a b*******great allen key on the right side
-
Totally agree, very disappointed.Been buying these since the mid 90s,but the standard now is so poor I no longer think they're worth having.Shame,I'm sure the market is there for a good quality disc, even if it costs more
-
-
Really depends on what it's done and how well maintained .If it still rides well and looks ok it would be worth having, but if it needs anything major Iwouldn't bother.Spending big money on old bikes is an easy trap to fall into, often cheaper in the end to get something better
-
I have had a 300 raga,290 sherco and currently ride 08 250 gas gas.Its easier to ride than the previous bikes,it grips better and have never thought it lacks power, but I'm an aging intermediate rider so I don't do sections that have big steps with no run up.If my son rides it at hard expert stuff when we gp practicing it still goes up but he says its harder work than the 300 raga he used to ride or the paxau sherco he has now.So I think the answer to your question on the best bike depends on how good you are and where you ride
