    '04 Raga 300

Terrific bikes arn't they.Change the gear oil every 3 trials with 450cc atf3 automatic transmission oil.The gear oil on these lubes the main bearings,so dirty oil soon ruins them.I found this out the hard way.they are easy to stall when you first ride one,but the gearing is very high.Try riding it a gear lower than you did on your previous bike, hope this helps

    04 300 Raga

Mine runs best at one and a half turns out on standard jetting

    04 Raga

Terrific bike if you get a good one, moneypit if not.Ask the owner how often thegearboxoil gets changed,it needs fresh about every 3 trials to be on the safe side,as it also lubes the main bearings.Kickstart gears break, but chew up first allowing metallic contamination of gear oil which gets in the mains. Ihve an o4 raga which has had no problems,my son has one which has needed all the above,a lot of it is down to how its been ridden and maintained.Middle silencer box needs changing for a steel one,the alloy one falls to bits.Hope all this doesn't put you off, they are very competive even against 06 bikes ,much better than a normal 300.They have adifferent exhaust, keihin carb, programmable ignition, ohlins shock and some magnesium parts to make it lighter.NOT a bike if you are a novice though

    Ssdt Cancelled

    april fool methinks
  5. If at worst you had to rebuild the motor it still would be reasonable.Seller sounds straight,he says it goes well,if you get away with just sorting the kickstart its an absolite bargain,go have alook,he says you can walk away if you don't like it,can't lose is my view

    Daily Routes

Depends on which 7 and which sooby,be fun finding out, don't think i'd stand much chance wirh my transit
  7. My 04 290 had a pathetic spark too,and I was concerned about too,but it started within 6 kicks cold,1st kick hot.Mine got worse if I didn't clean the idle jet and passages frequently.Iwonder if the choke mecanism doesn't get them rich enough to start them in this presently very cold weather. On the gasgas forum they talk of drilling out the choke jet to help this, might make a difference, its the same carb.Has yours got standard carb jets, with the mixture screw about 3 turns out, don't think its an electrical fault after fitting all those new bits

    Im Tempted

Looks fine to me,don't think there's many better 05 around. If the price is right I'd go look at it

    Sherco 290 05

I'm 99% sure that the stator marks are a baseline setting, and the timing is controlled by one of the "black boxes" under the tank. You could try retarding it at the stator, which should stop the kickback and reverse running.Ididn't think the factory gave timing marks,my 04 290 didn't have.hope this helps,H

    Build Quality

Any modern trials bike has a performance far in excess of anything most riders will ever need.ALLthe marks we lose are down to rider error or inability, look at a wtc video of 10 years back to see what those bikes could do in the right hands.I currently ride a 300 raga, previous to that 290 sherco, then 270 rev3.Never had any problems other than consumables, clean filter every trial, gear oil every month, wash and dry them every trial, maybe I've been lucky but some people do little or no maintenance then blame the bike.Ride the one that suits you best
  11. Beta have had this problem for years,to my mind the factory should have sorted it,its not acceptable on a brand new bike.I found JLI very helpful on telling me how to sort it though

    Second Hand Shercos

Ebay bike looks good,I would get aphone no.and speak to him,you get a better feel for the guy than thru email.Has he got a receipt from the dealer for it,check its got no finance on it,ask which 8 trials its done, what maintenance he does to it,get some current photos.99.9%of trials people are diamonds wifh nothing to hide, but its best to be careful. If your happy with it all and you can get it for 2200 go for it,but get it from the same address as on the receipt and make sure its got a legit frame no and take someone with you.Good luck H

Hi sounds like its done a fair bit,but if the engine's quiet, the wheels are true.the suspension linkage hes no play it'll probably be alright at
  14. Examine the the rubber bit[technical term]between the carb and engine for a hole or split that will allow air in,Does the plug come out a white/light grey colour signifying a weak mixture.I assume the jetting is correct,if so the mixture screw wants to be about 3 turns out.Good luck

    Timing Beta Rev 3

If the stator is fitted in the middle of its adjustment slots, the timing will be close enough to eliminate the timing.Check it hasn't sheared the woodruff key on the flywheel.Stator problems can be anything from it not running at all to misfiring or not revving out,can you borrow a stator from another bike?,it needs to be the same year and cc.Don't jast buy another stator.they cost nearly
  16. there's little difference between 04&05,maintenance etc is the same
  17. the definetive method of ending maintenance, have several pints.
  18. Sounds like the master cylinder piston is not returning fully.remove the return spring from the brake pedal, ensure that the cylinder pushrod has about .5 mm up and down play before it operates the cylinder.Back off the pedal height adjusting bolt so you get max stroke on the pedal then adjust pushrod to above setting.I'm not winding you up but get the caliper a bit higher thanthe master cylinder so any air naturally rises to the bleed nipple. They can be b-----ds to bleed but doing the above has always worked for me.
  19. If all the abve posts don't succeed, drill the heads off the screws with a drill bit 1mm bigger than the thread diameter. With the heads off, remove float bowl and unsrew the bolts. They will come out easily.thers no pressure on them with the heads removed.Good luck
  20. good luck, but bear in mind that someone else may have played with it before you

    Bar Width

suggest taking 10mm off each end, then trying it.take off another 10mm if they seem too wide, but I wouldn't go narrower than that, you lose more leverage than you would think.remember if you cut of too much you can't put it back on
  22. My 04 290 starts/runs best with mixture screw 3 turns out,3rd kick cold,as already posted IN NEUTRAL,1ST kick after that in or out of gear, will soon be for sale on here.

    Txt 200 Rear Brake

Check the master cylinder piston is returning fully, the pedal needs a little free movement before the piston moves, without this the brake won't bleed properly, and can also make the brake bind. Were either of the caliper pistons tight, you should be able to push them back easily with a small flat screwdriver between the pads
  24. try running it on shell optimax at 80/1 mix with a good synthetic 2 stroke oil.Check the carb settings/jets are correct,GasGas uk should be able to tell you what they should be,they're very helpful.Sometimes retarding the ignition timing stops it pinking but it loses top-end power/revs.Went thro all this on a 95 350 I had after someone played about with it,and an extra .5 mm base gasket sorted it,it. also made it easier to startHope this helps,if you're in any doubt post your phone no. and i'll speak to you.Good luck
  25. a brand new plug might help if you havn't already tried one,but your pilot jet definetly needs changing to #30-#35.Take the inlet manifold off and ensure its not got a small split in it and sucking air in
