  1. Quite True, some time ago I got this response from Peter Purves. "The problem we had back in 1990 when the show ceased to be, was that the sponsors just weren't around. We had lost Norwich Union, and struggled on with Lombard Tricity and when they pulled the plug the promoter, Nick Brittain decided enough was enough. It was quite expensive to stage, although it all took place over one weekend, and the sums wouldn't add up. I would love it to return, and I agree that the Arena trials format is a bit dull, even though the prowess of the riders is to be applauded. The writing was on the wall when Jean Pierre Goy started demonstrating some of the tricks of Arena riding to the rest of the competitors during a recording of the show in 1985, I think. Within moments, everyone was doing the same tricks (rather well, I have to add). Kickstart and Junior Kickstart were great cult shows, but I think they had run their course. It was getting ever more difficult to provide natural and open-air obstacles to tax the ever-growing skill of the competitors." Not likely to find sponsors these days and thats almost a dead cert! Nick Brittain the man behind it died a few years ago as far as I know. Wayne....
  2. Sadly not. Some seem glad to see those days gone, but maybe it's just nostalga on my part but I have very fond memories of those days even if I realised it wasn't really "trials" as we knew it. Even people I knew outside of trials at the time enjoyed this show. The series ran for many years. Wayne....
  3. Ross I dont do text talk! Don't text either!! Predates all that rubbish! It's a 3LA Hahaha or "Three Letter Acronym" Wayne....
  4. Just a case of Opinions Martin I tried 3 different systems on my Bultaco's and know which I personally prefer even if I have a vested interest in what I felt worked the best, but I would not of run with it if I thought it inferior. As for Ross's B40 who knows what will work best. Wayne....
  5. Never did like silentbloc bushes. Although they have some inherent springing characteristics they tend to slip a little on the bore and then work against you. Bushes are better IMO but not better than the more modern methods, but you dont have to take my word for it! Silentbloc's are also bitches to remove! Wayne....
  6. 215mm or about 8 1/2" between the inner faces on that gusset. Oh and it's a shame you felt you had to revert to such treatment, but it's a lesson learnt! Thats how we all learn eh... I know it's how I did ! The spindles can sieze in 1,2 or all 3 of the steel parts it passes through. Last one I did was my own 199B and that was siezed to both inner bushes but not the engine mount. If after a couple of taps I find the spindle has not moved at all I automatically treat it as scrap and use basically the same method to get the swinging arm out. That involves drilling a hole about 12-13mm diameter dead central into both ends of the spindle to a depth that ends up about 1/2" past the inside of the frame. Obviously with the engine out a few sharp clouts on the front of the swinging arm breaks it free as the ends of the spindle collapse and break away. Once out its much easier to deal with, usually with more drillng. I try to avoid hacksawing the spindle when still in the frame even if the frame can be spread a little to give you a gap to allow it as you can end up with a floppy mess if only one side can be cut. You have to try avoid cutting into the boss on the rear engine mount as it's width is part of the tolerance stack that controls end float. Wayne....
  7. I think maybe not. I know a few 303's have shown up, and there was that other derivative the Tuyo trail bike. Never seen an example of the latter, but maybe one in a Spanish collection somewhere. Who knows! Wayne.....
  8. Ian Well of course the Grippers always had quite a torturously routed pipe + the two alloy cans. I really must attend to my own grippers, but one job at a time (get real!) Wayne.....
  9. Yep it's obvious now you point it out, I can see the hose now!
  10. Saw a thread on the Todotrial site about Ossa Variants, and these interested me. Now I knew about the rare 303 TR80 bikes but what's the story behind these? Ever make it into even small scale production? Possibly rendered images of not existant models? Whats going on at the rear of the swinging arm? and a tiny Gripper? Looks like a Minerelli Engine? Wayne....
  11. Alloy I presume? I know a little outfit at 3 legged cross that might do it. Wayne....
  12. Falcons or the Betor Copies? Looks like the Betor Diamond Logo? But should add, nice inspirational work there. Wayne....
  13. Yep! I must get my copy off the shelf and read it again, I found it a facinating read the 1st few times Probably will again. At least it seems Honda are less prone to crushing the HRC bikes like they reputably did in the past? Wayne....
  14. Thats exactly how large vinyl graphics are applied to Boats too. Wayne....
  15. Time for a sequel to "The Four Stroke Finale"? Wayne....
  16. They seem to list both 82 and 82.50mm piston big bore kits. If the 54.2mm stroke is right then thats 286 and 289.7cc Wayne...
  17. Ross What type of oil were you using before? Wayne...
  18. Certainly a mystery, especially as Bultaco's are most often 1 or 2 kick starters with certainty when properly setup. Did the engine not even fire when you put a little fuel down the plug hole? Wayne....
  19. Ah you have a point there! Maybe EGO was what they should have called all those ERGO bits. I had to look up that alloy type as being an engineer I had no damn clue what it was! Seems to be a 7000 series alloy most probably 7075, ie strong but with crap corrosion resistance. Guess they had to give it a name to make a common as muck aerospace alloy some exclusivity! Wayne....
  20. Isn't that just typical on Trials bike Model designations! Fantic 200, Sherpa 350 etc etc. I guess they're all "close" enough! Wayne...
  21. If it's a 300 it would of had its crankcase opened up a bit for the larger liner I suppose Wayne...
  22. We had suggested crank seals, and I'm still rating that as a top contender for the fault. Easist way to verify it could be the problem is a thimbles worth of fuel down the plug hole and then try to start it. if it fires and runs for a second or two then its almost certain to be the seals especially if the carb has been proven to be all ok. Wayne....
  23. Would depend where you are I guess. I have found these simple ignitions are not too fussy about the actual capacitance of the condensor as most are similar values. Try to find one that can be fiited easily for a start. Wayne....
