  1. Saw a bunch of these bike in Soto De Real on the weekend. Interesting part of trials history. The Dragonfly always impressed me with the way it was put together, even if it was not really successful. Wayne....
  2. An accurate and high quality restoration would result in a bike with a pretty high value especially in Spain. Wayne....
  3. 2 Rows Really? When I had the plate made up for my Morini 500 I had them turn the plate 90 degrees and do it on 3 rows with the Year suffix on it's own line at bottom centre. Never had any issues with it on the road or at mot's So guess it's acceptable. I did it because it basically looks better on that bike. Wayne....
  4. Yep. Slacken Bottom clamp, Slacken Fork cap by a fraction of a turn and sharp (Soft Faced) hammer blow square on to the Fork Cap. Taper should let go fairly easily. Wayne....
  5. Depends if they are built to be dismantled and serviced. Many are not.
  6. Not much actually done this w/e so it's going to have to wait a bit. Getting ready for a quick trip to Madrid to see some trials friends. Did however measure the taper on the damaged shaft and it's 5.52
  7. 32x42x6 or 7 are commonly available as a standard dowty style lip seal. Yes would of been cup and cone. Wayne...
  8. Your'e welcome. Hope the hammer didnt do any damage! Are you just doing a clean/rebuild and seal change? Wayne....
  9. That IS in tidy condition. Nice catch! Wayne....
  10. As much as I'd love to be working on the bikes, and you probably know I'd rather be doing that. The end of month is looming. Which in my game means just one thing. PANIC! Not sure if I ever posted a picture of the old dog. But heres the only one I have from when I had just bought it in bits and threw it together to see if it was all there. You will notice the absence of a chain! There was no point doing anything once that flaw had been noticed. All I did I think, was order new mudguards there and then from Sandifords. Knowing that they'd be almost impossible to get when I found the "roundtuit". Still here and still wrapped up. Wayne.... picture was scanned from an old faded print. I didn't have a digital camera back in 95.
  11. Heat helps. Try to heat the ally leg just below the steel carrier, I use a hot air paint stripper. There should be an O ring in there too. I use a lathe chuck to hold them for unscrewing, but you should be able to come up with something. Wayne....
  12. I'll try! Next installment possibly on the w/e
  13. More than you might imagine even though it needs a lot of work. If you havent had offers already I'd suggest just put it on evilbay and see what it makes. It's not going to go for less than it's worth, these bikes are selling. Wayne....
  14. Hi Put the hammer away;) You need to unscrew the top Seal/Bush housing (TEL 189.518), Those should be Telesco forks at least on 28M which come apart differently to the later Betors. Wayne....
  15. Steve Almost certainly will to a certain extent, especially as it will take a fair bit of current to get some penetration. I'm sure it can be dealt with though. A weld 180 deg from the repair would probably help. I'll just have to wait and see what happens. At a real push a 349 shaft might be able to be used with an extension grafted on somehow. Looks like the extra part is the part of the 330 shaft that protrudes into the primary cavity and onto which the kickstart gear idles. The 349 shaft does not go through into that cavity. Wayne...
  16. Haha but at least there was the new talon sprocket they intended to fit in the box of parts. No consolation of course as the damage had been done. Looking like I'll have to repair that shaft or make a new one. Not likely to find an original part now. Wayne....
  17. If it was me, I'd wait for one to come along, and one will. All depends on your priorities really. Not having matching frame and engine numbers is not a very bad thing, but my belief is that it's better if they are at least the same model. Wayne....
  18. Is your engine M49 or 80? I forgot!
  19. Must be watching the stuff on Evilbay! Not sure actually. They were probably very close. Not sure if all Alpinas had the rear brake on the rhs, some certainly did. Take it you never found a frame number? Wayne....
  20. Nothing major I seem to recall. Maybe slightly different fixing points for the seat unit. Wayne.....
  21. This is the main reason the bike was just put away all those years ago without being tried and the reason the engine HAS to be rebuilt. As you can see the previous owner attacked the final drive sprocket with an angle grinder, but kind of went a bit too far! I seem to recall there was some Devcon stuck to it which of course just fell off when prodded. I'll probably gently build up the shaft with weld and regrind the taper. Although the part number is very similar to the 348/9 It's not the same part I'm sure. 330 has a different kickstart mechanism with an idler mounted on the end of the problem shaft. So the shaft is longer than the 348/9. Wayne....
  22. They are good Ross. But can be clumsy. The normal legs would not go behind the flywheel. But it was tapped for 3 m10 bolts, so I used them. Maybe overkill on the strength of the adapter, but it's done now. The rebuild proper can start now anyway. Wayne...
  23. Made up an adapter to use a Hydraulic 10 ton puller to extract the primary flywheel. Worked a treat and no heating required. I think is was less than 10 seconds after fitting that the flywheel popped off. But with a fair crack! Got to love those hydraulic pullers! Wayne....
