    Beta Rev 3 07

Picked up my 200 earlier today. Will not get to have a proper go until Saturday, but obviously fired it up. It does look pretty small, but the bike I just got rid of was 4RT so it would. It turns sharply and the riding position felt instantly comfortable. Suspension felt very stiff compared to the plush Mont, but I am putting this down to the fact it is brand new. ( not that I am expecting the Beta sus to be as good as the Mont). The only complaint so far is that the stickers on the front and rear mudguard are shocking. Every one either has a bubble in it or is lifting at the edges. They quality of the sticker is very poor. This is only a minor annoyance though, and with a little time spent can be sorted. Everything else looks up to the usual Beta high quality.
  2. You should be able to move the inner spaccer slightly to either side allowing you to get a lip on the bearing. Lay the wheel across something that is soft and wont damage it like 2 bits of wood. Using a drift of some sort, locate this on the inner lip of the bearing that you have created by moving the middle spacer to one side. Obviously you put the drift through where the wheel spindle goes so you are knocking the bearing outwards. Then hit it as hard as you can with a mallet and don't stop until it comes out! Hope this makes sense.

    What Year

When I wanted to get a TY175 registered a few years back, I wrote to Yamaha UK with the frame and engine no asking for them when the bike was manufactured. They sent me a letter back telling me the year of manufacture, and this enabled me to get an age related plate on the bike. I was surprised at this that they still had a record of the beat up little TY I had bought, it had spent the last 15 years in someones shed and had mice living in the air box! Thinking about it though they must by law have to keep a record of every bike. If you can be bothered to write the letter, this way you can find out for sure. There is also probably a site somewhere on the internet that you could put in the no's and it would give you an age. I am just guessing at this bit though.
  4. Bedfordshire, South Midland Centre. Mostly ride out of centre though. Doing the Hillsborough classic round a week on Sunday. Which will hopefully be the Beta's first outing. Then the Merle Morewood the week after. Both brilliant trials, if you haven't ridden them before definetly worth a ride.
  5. You can have a go on mine, if our paths cross at a trial or practicing etc
  6. Has anyone ever had one of the rear whells like the ones that Haven sell? Are they any good? I know Talon used to supply them, but when I spoke to them a while ago they said they had stopped due to discs on modern trials bikes now being to thin. I suppose the cost of cahanging their design was to much for the money it made.
  7. I know it's not the question you asked, but I rode a 200 and liked it so much that I have now ordered a 07 and collect it next Monday. I just found it so much easier to ride than the others, and plenty of power for anything i ride. It will always be far more capable than me. I ride in a lot of road based trials and 4 or 5 nationals a year (clubman route), and I have not come across anything that the 200 wouldn't handle (plenty that I couldn't though). John Lampkin told me a story once about a massive hill climb in some trial that Doug was a bit aprehensive about on his works bike, and up the last 20 foot wasn't sure if he was going to make it, apparently Tom Sagar was there on a 200 and absolutely blitzed it. I honestly believe I will ride better on the 200, I must admit that it took a while to swallow my pride and admit that I didn't need a minimum of 250. No doubt the blokes I ride with will tell me I now own a girls bike. Sorry if this gives you more questions than answers.
  8. Pub sounds good! It was about bang on for the first 10 or 15 sections, then when we got to Top Farm it all went wrong for me. After that I ran out of petrol and it was game over. It would be good if they do get an alternative route, it would certainly fill the entry. More money for the club etc. We will have to wait and see if it's a Novogar.
  9. Any chance of a clubman route on the Colmore next year. I rode last year, and found it to hard. I was secretly quite happy when I ran out of petrol and got overtaken by the people pulling up the pegs. I would like to ride again this year, as it is by far the nearest national to me, but will have to give it a miss if it's just one route if I am being realistic. It wasn't a Novogar round last year, so could it possibly go to 2 routes?
  10. I rode the Jeffries back in 99 or 2000. It had 2 routes then and I struggled on the easy route back then. I never rode again as it went to single route. I would definitely be back if it went to dual route again.

    Footrest Hangers

You are entitled to your opinion, but I would have to disagree!
  14. I am going to sell the genuine Mont back wheel, with a new tyre on it if anyone is interested PM me. I will put it in the classifieds when I can work out how to use it.
  15. I am not recommending you do this, but even if you never changed the oil and filter, I would think the chances of a Honda engine screwing up are pretty slim. What the manuals say is over the top. On my 315 I think it recommended you changed the piston and rings after every 6 trials (or races as the manual called them). I never replaced a piston on any of my 315s and they all sounded as sweet off the engine as the day I got them. I try and service my 05 4rt after every 10 or so trials/rides. Maybe a bit sooner if I have done a 2 day road based trial etc. As Ferret Flasher said I would expect your 4rt to be running fine with a little routine maintanance for many years to come. Great build quality. I to had a Gas Gas Pro, and I must admit that it came with a few extras that the Mont didn't, like holes in the crank case that oil leaked out of. Nothing like buying a brand new bike! When I mentioned this to a Gas Gas repesentative at a show he said "only 2 holes! You've got a good one then" Having said that they do appear to be built better now than they were back in 03 when I had mine.
  16. You Cheeky T%@t! You Cheeky T%@t! Who are you anyway?
  17. Thats a shame, I was looking for at least
  18. I have a brand new 4RT back wheel, ready to go on the bike with all the spacers and a brand new disc and sprocket. It also has a brand new Dunlop 803 rear tyre on it. The wheel alone cost me

    Engine Covers

Surely these are products that you buy, and put on your new bike to keep it looking good for when you come to sell it and take them off. I don't think my fork leg protectors look very good, but when you see all the scrapes up them you know that they are doing the job they were meant for. As one of the other posts says if they stop you putting a hole in your casings, and having to retire then they are a good idea whether they are made out of plastic or alloy. I think the bloke who has put them on e bay is missing a trick, and should be advertising them more from a protective/ preventative angle rather than enhancing the look of your bike. I don't really give a monkeys what my bike looks like when I am riding it in a trial. I just want it to look as close to new as possible when I peel all the protection off and get it ready to sell. In answer to another question at the start of the thread, I think an original Beta case is just shy of

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Beta-Rev-3-Trials-pr...1QQcmdZViewItem Have you seen these on E bay? Looks pretty good and quite cheap. Not a bad idea. I think I have pasted the link properly. If not search under Beta Rev 3
  21. Nice one, yes might see you there. We are in a red transporter. I am the one that will spend most of the trial on his a@se, and my mate is the one who will be shouting and swearing a lot. If you don't see him there is a good chance you will hear him!
  22. Cheers for all the replies, looks like it's going to be well worth the trip. Will definately be riding.
  23. I am planning on making the long trip up to ride this trial. Is it a good one? I presume it's 40 sections and 1 lap? I understand that it's enter on the day. Will I be able to do day membership as I am a member of a south midland centre club? Cheers Dave
