The Lakes is a tough trial in my opinion on the Clubman course. I am a poor inter rider at centre level, some times ride the 50/50 and I have struggled round every year since 02. Saying that though it is a brilliant event otherwise I wouldn't keep coming back.
The thing that knackers me the most is the going in between sections. Especially on the Sunday. If it is wet it is a nightmare just to get to the last couple of sections in the 1st group.
I am not trying to put you off, I would say go for it as it is very well and organised and one of the best trials of the year.
I haven't seen the regs for it though yet.

Whilst riding in the Manx 2 day the other week, 7 sections from the end the gear box packed up on my 4rt. It was stuck in 1st and would not select another gear or neutral. Which ended my trial.
When it was stripped down the gear selector shaft had broken. When I telephoned to order a new one, I got the impession that they have had a few of these break, and that they were designed to do so rather than cause any further damage to the gear box. Quite a clever idea?
I don't doubt it was me smacking the gear lever hard against the rock that caused the shaft to break, not that I remember catching it. Surely though it would be better to have a a gear lever that breaks/bends so you can carry on riding with a bent lever, or just undo one bolt to replace it. Looking at the lever on the mont it is unlikely you are going to bend or break that, so it's the shaft that breaks.
With the way I ride, hitting every rock and hole at the wrong speed/angle I am now a bit concerned this is going to happen again. The cost of the of the shaft is a similar price to the lever, but it's the fact that it's not a repair you can do quickly at the roadside!
Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know if the shaft is designed to break to prevent gear box damage? Should I go back to riding a Beta with a bent gear lever?
Cheers
Dave

Can anyone help! I am starting to panic. I have ridden in the lakes every year since 02, but I sytill haven't received the regs through. My accomodation is booked and paid for I can not afford to miss out. Have other previous riders received their copies yet? If anyone has got any contact details for the secutary of the meeting please could you pm me.
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks

I was no 2. So I had a lie in on the Sunday morning.
Didn't finish though. 7 sections from the end the gear box packed up on my Montesa. Absolutely gutted!
Great trial again though, will be back again next year. Just need to come up with some way of making the ferry crossing a bit cheaper. When you pay all that money, and travel all that way and you can't finish the trial it feels s##t.
Never mind only another 364 days to go.
We didn't make it to Cest La Vie or Colours, we were camping at Hillberry near Onchan and spent most of the weekend arguing about who was going to drive!
-
That's if I can take it? I can confidently say my drinking is better than my riding! :)
Cheers for the tips. C'est La Vie it is.

Where is the best place to go drinking on the Saturday night Cubby?

I have got a new rear Dunlop 803 the latest tubeless tyre for sale if anyone wants it. I think they are really good tyres and have been using them for ages, but I would say that. I have always ran them at lower psi than michlins as they have stiffer side walls and don't seem to pop off the rim or pucture as easily.
If anyone wants the tyre it's
-
Yes, it is a road based trial.
-
Will they go to everyone that rode last year? I didn't get them sent to me last year, even though I had ridden it the 3 previous years.
Want to make sure I don't miss out.
Thanks

Just got my post through. A letter from Steam packet, my sailing on the seacat from Liverpool has been cancelled, so we have now got to get the ferry from Heysam. They are useless!
-
Me and the blokes I am riding with are 1,2(me) and 3. What no are you?
We are having to sail accross at 2am on the Friday morning. So we arrive on the island about 4.30am. It was the only boat we could get on.
With regards to the other post from the spectator. I am sure you will be able to get route details from the villa marina on the Friday night where the signing on takes place. I am pretty sure it will be all on the program as well.

Only 2 weeks away. I can't wait. Best trial of the year IMHO. ( Even though Steam Packet make it horrendously expensive, but I wont get into that again)
Hoping to get another finishers trophy. (A trophy for just finihing, Brilliant!) Only one I have got a chance of winning. But that doesn't matter. Top trial, and lots of beers on the Saturday night.
Who on the forum is riding. Might see you there.

Hello
Are the regs available for this trial yet?
Have I missed out already? I have heard that you have to get in early to get a ride?
Does anyone have any contact details so I can try and get the details, or on the list to be sent them.
I have heard that it's a top trial. I definitely need to ride it ASAP!
Thanks
Dave

You know I don't like to get it off tick over.
Lets just hope that battered Beta makes it round!
-
Thanks for the info David. Looks like you are no 26, off at 9.26. An early start for you in the morning!
I am 108, so at the back of the field.
Cheers

According to the parts book the clutch plate pack is different.
They lied to me! The b~@%*$=s!

Got the riding list through for the Dave Rowland today. 1st time I have ridden it. How does the Clubmen course compare to the Bemrose? Is it harder, easier or about the same?
Cheers

When I bought my 4rt, I was told by the dealer that the only difference was the plastics.

I really can't see how the small amount of extra weight would cause a problem. The front end of modern bikes these days are so light, I don't think you would really notice. 1/2 way round you can put the fuel in the bike anyway. They would be great for the Manx 2 day. No official fuel stops there just relying on meeting your van at the groups of sections.
I would certainly buy one if I could get my hands on one, don't think they make them anymore though.
-
When did it go to 1 route only?
Was it when it bacame a Novogar round. I think it was 99 or 2000 when I rode it, and it was 2 routes then.
Great idea about
-
Just booked the ferries for the Manx 2 day. Steam Packet have excelled themselves yet again.
-
No you wont have any problems getting hold of bits for Gas Gas, Beta, Mont, Scorpa or Sherco. Even Fantic and Yamaha TY bits are still readily available.
-
Very Close, 77! Good Prediction. should have been less. Missed a section, not paying attention. Apart from that brilliant trial. Will definately look out for the Crackpot.
Going off topic, but what about the Wainright, have you ridden that?
-
Yes you are right, I do ride a Mont, and before that I had a Beta, and before that I had a Gas Gas. As I said that is just my opinion, and go out and test ride some if you can.
MY BIKES BETTER THAN YOUR BIKE. MY DAD SAID SO!
