The bars are a temporary measure until I can find the funds for some fatbars. I'd also like to redo the wheels with new spokes and rims. I cant decide if I should go with having the current tank sprayed or to go with a new fibreglass one. I should be there on the 19th but will be on my gasgas. Ill look out for you.

I have to admit, the whole episode of restoring the bike has been a real eye opener for me. I could not believe just how badly somethings could be botched together. I found 2 sparkplug sockets in the fork tubes a brake pedal that looked as if it had come from a tractor an air filter that was wedged into place every nut and bolt butchered Say hello if you see me at a trial. It would be great to meet you. I normally ride a red 2005 gasgas at trials

Hi Davy. Yes thats me. The top yoke and front brake bar look great I think you'll agree. Yes the silencer was from Italy and ive just wrapped some sticky backed black carbon fibre look sheet around it to protect it but also so that it looks a bit more in keeping with the original look. I made the side panels myself. They're just ally sheet cut and bent to the right shape and covered in red sticky backed PVC. This is what it looked like before I started... Just love that brake pedal Did you have any joy with that stainless front pipe you were working on ?

  6. Cheers Glenn. Is there any chance of you putting that parts manual online somewhere ? Best wishes Bryan
  7. Im replacing the bushes in the swinging arm but dont know which way the new ones should go (the old ones had completely disappeared) !! Should the roller bearings be on the inside or the bronze bushes ?
  8. Sounds like you should add crankshaft seals to your list
  9. Very impressed so far. Could you give me details of how to go about the zink plating please
  10. Striped the forks on my 240 today. Couldn't believe my eyes when I unscrewed the top caps and a spark plug socket popped out of each leg !! Could someone please tell me how it SHOULD be. I have in top to bottom order... Top cap metal spacer about 50mm long the spring Im a little surprised that there is nothing between the spring and the spacer. Should there be ? Also the brake side fork leg has 2 seals and the other side has only one. Is this correct ? What is the mod to use only one seal ? Thanks
  11. Could someone please explain the best way to remove a siezed spindle. On the clutch side there is a large nut. Is this left or right thread ? Thanks

    Air Box Horror!

Probably not a good idea to give names but I'd love to know what dealer that was ! Reminds me of the time I bought a bike from a well known dealer along the Botley Road in Oxford
  13. Buy the seal, the shaft and bearing. Its about 99% certain that the shaft will be worn and you'll just waste your money with the seal. Been there... done it Pop over if you need a star drive to undo the impellor, im only in Huntingdon

  15. I had decided to replace the rear silencer on my newly acquired 240. The options I considered were... An exact copy of the original from France Trial Classic The WES after market silencer A new silencer manufactured in Italy and on sale on ebay I was tempted by the original copy but the downside was that it was not repackable. The WES silencer is repackable but looks different from the original and is reported to cause slight power loss. The ebay silencer was a complete unknown but after an email to the seller I decided bite the bullet and go down this route. I managed to buy the silencer through ebay but choose to buy through the american site as doing so enabled me to pay in US dolars. Because of the exchange rates, this meant that I made a
  16. Thanks Hewson. That was very helpful. Someone had obviously butchered mine but ive machined up a little insert to return it to pretty close to standard. Thanks also to Bill Pye for his advice. Ill certainly be using him for parts in the future. If anyone happens to have an inspection plate (the bit you unscrew to make adjustments) spare, id be interested
  17. Ive just bought some new domino clutch and brake assemblies and new cables to go with them but im having a few problems... Brake cable is too long but ive overcome this by putting in an extra adjuster as a spacer but also the clutch cable is too short. I thought to myself no problem ill just adjust the clutch as its only JUST too short but when I took the cover off the adjuster I was expecting to find an adjuster screw and a lock nut but all I found was the screw. Ive HOPEFULLY attached a couple of pics to help explain but is this set up correct or have I missed something ? http://cid-ebd7d1ab36fc0d10.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/Fantic240/DSCF1645.JPG http://cid-ebd7d1ab36fc0d10.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/Fantic240/DSCF1646.JPG http://cid-ebd7d1ab36fc0d10.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/Fantic240/DSCF1648.JPG
  18. Hi. could anyone please tell me the bearing and seal numbers for the front wheel of my 240.
  19. Save yourself some grief and take the whole lot along to your nearest engineering shop and ask them to do it for you. When you fit new bushes it is common for the shaft not to fit as some slight deformation of the bush is inevitable when it is pressed in. The engineering shop will be able to run a reamer through the bushes once fitted and the problem will be solved but most importantly, you will have peace of mind.

    Brake Pedal

Work on my new toy (240pro) is going well but I need to make myself a new brake pedal. I have looked at a few and have come up with a design but I need to know how the standard pedal attaches to the frame as all I have is a hole in the frame where it should go. Should there be some kind of bush pressed into this hole or what ? Hoe does the pedal actually attach to the frame ? If bolted, what does it bolt to ? Thanks in advance for your help

    A Huge Favour

I've just bought myself a 240pro but the bash plate is missing. Could someone please do me a huge favour and make a card template of theirs so that I can try and fabricate one myself. If you PM me your address i'll send you a SAE. Can anyone suggest a suitable material to make the bash plate from ? Many thanks
  22. If you think that is impressive, just think how fast the piston is going. Remember the cam shaft is rotating at half the speed of the crankshaft ! The average car idles at about 800RPM but to make things simple reduce that to 600RPM. Thats 600 rotations of the crankshaft per min. That means that every SECOND the crankshaft rotates 10 times ! And thats at idle !!

    Sump Nut

Get out an angle grinder and grind off the bolt heads so that you can remove the sump guard. Having removed it you should now be able to decide on a plan of action to sort out the problem once and for all.
  24. Sorry no idea as to the entry but entries are now closed and there is no entry on the day. Sorry
  25. Contrary to some rumours the Brian Stonebridge Trophy Trial has NOT been cancelled and will run as scheduled. 14 members worked hard today to lay out 38 sections and only the finishing touches to the route marking need to be completed tomorrow. If you have not done so please read fully the instructions in the programme which you should now have received. Looking forward to a good days sport on Sunday.
