January 19, 201511 yr While waiting in queues at sections, I am regularly getting exhaust fumes blown into my face, in pulses. Why do the manufacturers not direct the exhaust tip downwards, towards the ground? It would probably help keep the noise down too. Hydrocarbons are linked to lung cancer, so it would make sense.
January 19, 201511 yr Yep, I think its a proven concept, Husqvarna, KTM and others did this on enduro bikes till recently. In an ideal world riders would turn their engines off while queueing, doing everyone and themselves a favour.
January 19, 201511 yr More to the point, and this really winds me up, why do folk feel the need to have the bike running at all when there are loads of riders ahead waiting to go. Once the bike has been running at bit and is warm it is fine, I just fire up when the rider before me enters the section. But then you get the throttle blippers who are desperately either trying to keep the flipping thing running , usually on a smokey old banger or just presumably think they are ace by sitting there twisting the throttle.... Just kill the bloody thing and save on everything!!!!!! And relax...............................
January 19, 201511 yr Should come to one of our trials. Most members like a quick smoke in the queue to calm the nerves. A whiff of 2T is like a breath of fresh air.
January 20, 201511 yr To look at this from another perspective, I always thought the bikes idling while in line was great. Keeps all the mayflies, gnats, and mosquitoes from feasting on you while you sit in line.

January 20, 201511 yr IN PULSES he says! Is it not amazing just how them things will hit you with a puff of air randomly and several feet away! I just wish it all smelled like castor oil, gives me wood! And I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
January 20, 201511 yr Perfume and deodorant just about kills me. Castor 927 though is heavenly. Just ask my wife, she`ll tell you I`ve always been that way!
January 20, 201511 yr Castor oil fumes also gives you the trots. Pilots used to suffer from dehydration due to it. Most idling are probably on Beta's, let it cool and the stuck clutch may put you in a hedge on start up :-)
January 20, 201511 yr Would it help if we all ran strawberry scented 2 stroke oil....could be one of your 5 a day... PS: Does that stuff actually smell of strawberries...I've always wondered?
January 20, 201511 yr One thing I've always wanted to try was the candle scents you can pick up in a craft shop. I figure it must be a combustible hydrocarbon so it should mix with fuel. Wouldn't it be nice to pull up to a section and smell something pleasant. Then again the cost of a cylinder and piston make the experiment risky. And no I don't hang around craft shops but when the wife drags me through one I do what I do in any store and start thinking, "How can I use that in trials."
January 20, 201511 yr There used to be a additive called Petal that you could add to paraffin that had a perfumed smell to get rid of the oily smell you got from Parafin Heaters! Couple of drops in a gallon gave it a lavender smell......

Hum, A Castrol R smelling candle now that's my kind of aromatherapy!
