  2. Report Ken O'Brien Fine weather greeted a host of riders 46 in fact from many Centres to contest the Ivan Davis Cup, primarily a Novice event with the best adult performance any class riding the Middle Yellow route taking the pot. Many weeks of clearing was required at the excellent Cox's Farm venue after the winter rains and hot summer months had made for much over and undergrowth. Four laps of ten sections were plotted with hazards ranging from ditch crossings long climbs a rocky stream and shallow muddy slots. Time was of the essence though as an amber flood weather warning had been issued by the Met office and rain was due around 12 o'clock. Luckily the weatherman got it right once again, and with the wet stuff falling heavily on one and all a few marks could be taken from most of the competitors to defy the dreaded tie-break situation. Adrian Steele Beta 250 was victorious once more with a loss of four marks to take the Silverware. Section 3 was causing problems for most and this included Adrian with an annoying three on his last visit , starting with a ditch crossing before traversing along a muddy camber and then the hard bit, an inch perfect drop into a slot with a rooty climb out, the rain had terrorised the bank so a three was a good effort as many failed to negotiate the hazard. Pre race contender Alan Taylor TRS 250 was on gold until rear brake gremlins struck late on and retirement was imminent after frantic temporary repairs had failed. A well represented Youth A contingent was led home by Jack Pettit Beta Evo losing twenty eight marks ahead of Riley Middlehurst also Beta mounted on forty marks lost. Jack put in some excellent rides at section 8, starting with a rooty camber then looping up a slick bank before dropping beside a fallen Oak and then crossing the said Oak with a height of in excess of two feet. The 50/50 Hard/Middle route had some serious contenders for the win with John Cowley 'EM Plus' taking it with a 1 mark advantage over Martyn Wilmore on the factory Beta. But maybe the ride of the day in this class should go to Ben Wilmore who piloted the Beamish Suzuki around for a miserly 7 marks lost, section nine over in Roberts Copse was pretty tough for the older machinery with several rocky cambers and a seriously slick rooted climb to the ends, the Beamish making it look like a main road on all but one occasion. On the 50/50 Easy/Middle route Mark Davidson Beta Evo was on song once again with a tidy win in this popular class just a few points ahead of Jessie Basford on the TRS, both having a sprinkling of dabs at Hurworth's Hill, a hundred yard climb with a shallow bog crossing then a couple of soft turns that were deteriorating fast as this sub was the most exposed of the ten on offer to the twenty minute downpour. On the eased White route a couple of Wycombe club raiders were also on the money today with Tim Roblett Beta taking top spot in the Sportsman class and travelling companion Jim Morris acing the Twinshock class on the beautifully turned out TLR 200 Rothman's Honda. Although two completely different power bands both machines took in their stride the undulating although tricky banks of section one where the rain also made for an exciting watch. Young Freddie Middlehurst was having a great time on the little Beta cleaning section six ' The Gorse Bank ' a very tricky drop on wet clay with a tight turn back up the bank to the welcome ends cards. Oxford Club member Chris Aylott Triumph 350 Twin put in the best performance for the older classic machinery taking the Pre 65 class win ahead of Chris Page, both showing excellent skill and control on the twisting hillside of section 1. Many thanks to all who helped on the day and our next Trial is the ' James ' and ' Thistle Anderson ' Cups at Howe Wood on October 11th 10am start.

  6. It's also there for the benefit of your minders fingers. Competition rules may even require the safety guards be in place if you are competing in a sanctioned event. see: FIM Trial Technical Rule 41.04 ... if you are riding in winter they become a problem with ice buildup and I remove the guard seasonally, but studded tires are crazy dangerous so only crazy people would ride or catch studded tire bikes in winter.
  7. Yes, all the guards are worth fitting , except for when you are a works rider and do not pay to fix the bike.
  8. Just musing about this, mine's pretty knackered. It's looking rough, splits and cracks. I was going to order a new one but then though 'is it actually worth it'? I mean it's flimsy plastic, how much protection can it really offer? Does anyone ride without it?
  9. Hi Stevec , That explains why i might be having trouble with the clutch on my factory sincro , as the bike gets warmer during a trial im'e having to adjust the clutch on the lever more than enough which isn't good ! At first i thought it was the oil clutch / g-box so changed it to putoline ! also bled the clutch to insure no air was present . Plus the clutch is VERY light on operation and doesen't clear well making neutral a pig to find ..So on the back off what you are saying about the pre-load washer in the pic , the clutch may require more pre-load ? is it a matter of spinning the pre-load washer to increase its thickness ? Any information would be much appreciated on this one . Rich

My gp2022 exhaust burned down in andorra event. I totally stripped and cleaned it now so will rebuild it to fresh. Only my heatsheald is loose now. What kind of glue will work for this?

  17. You’ll find everything but the main shaft in the screenshot. The shaft itself isn’t critical and neither is the length. There’s some guessing involved but close is enough. Just make sure the diameter of the 17mm and 20mm tip is correct. Good luck!
  18. RonH. Now I'm being lazy I know, but what were the dimensions you used?
  19. Here is the generic wiring diagram that is the basis of my thought !!
  20. Hi There, I have done a bit more checking with my trusty multimeter. I have tested the resistance on the hall sensor/pick up coil. It measured 23,5 ohms. But what I do not understand is that I get this reading with one probe of my multimeter on the wire from the sensor and the other probe going to earth. Is this correct? In my simple brain the pulse from the sensor/coil will not go to the CDI, but straight to earth. I have also discovered that the damage to the lighting coil was done by my flywheel puller. Thks Bruce

  22. Not an expert on trials in Scotland but you could maybe try Lothian trials club, they seem oriented towards the beginner. Unfortunately most clubs have more presence on FB than having a proper website these days so you're probably best bet is to contact the clubs on FB. https://www.lothiantrialsclub.co.uk/newpage Some phone numbers there you could try
  23. I assume it is running fine at Idle? What happens when you rev it out in Neutral? What happens when you try and rev out under load/in gear?
  24. This site is back by great demand . By the lack of response to questions etc I am not sure by who. Any way here we are . www.braapscotland.co.uk , https://www.sacu.co.uk>get-involved>starting-trials , https:// themotorcyclingclub.org.uk>the-edinburgh-trial
  25. Hi There, I did notice that , but there is no problem with the strength of the spark, it just seems to be firing at the incorrect time. This points me ( no pun intended ) towards the CDI or the Hall sensor. I think I have a long journey ahead. Chrs Bruce

  28. Looks like you have damage on the lighting coil?, potentially also damage to the ignition or pulse coil or even the damaged lighting coil is affecting the other coils. Have you got the resistance values for the various coils?
  29. Hi ...... a complete newbie to trials here. Just purchased a 2022 Beta 2t EVO 200 ..... putting ink to paper tomorrow. Delivery in a coupl of weeks. I stay in edinburgh and understand that I need to join a local club in order to obtain my SACU membership. I have looked at a couple of facebook pages etc but can't seem to find a way to actually apply for membership to these clubs. Im looking for somewhere thst catets for complete beginners with beginner type trials. Can anyone point me in the right direction. As mentioned, my bike wont be here for a couple of weeks at least but I'd like to pop along in advance and meet some folks and see what goes on. I work away mon to friday ( Orkney ) so weekends would suit best. Many thanksin advance for anybody who can respknd with some suggestions. Cheers toto
  30. Hi guys. Would any of you happen to have a Merlin, who could maybe tell me what the complete part number is on the Kokusan CDI. I do know that Merlin used two systems, Kokusan and Dansi. As you can see from my photo, I only have CU 21. There are more digits or numbers after that. Thks Bruce
  31. I had the same problem. After 3 cracked clutch cases, failed waterpump seal, and a very unstable idling engine all within 10 hours of driving I had enough of it. Although everything was very well taken care of by the dealer i wanted a bike without problems. It was my daughters bike and she couldn't drive for several months or we had to share my trs one 250. So i traded it in for 2024 125 one rr. Flawless, no issues, just driving and cleaning....
  32. I miss my '18 125, never should have traded down for this perpetual problem. Not liking any of my options from this point, fix it, flog it, replace it.
