Hi, I have a TY250 mono and have stripped the front fork legs to clean and rechrome or replace the chrome stanchions as they are badly pitted. Having taken the forks apart the internal damper rod is still firmly embedded in the bottom of the chrome tube, with no obvious means of removal. The internal damper tube (the bit with the holes drilled in to allow oil to pass) moves in and out freely, but once it is fully inserted into the chrome tube it feels solid. Presumably from what I have read the internal damper rod should come out through the top of the tube but I cannot see how to release it. what am I missing here? I just installed the clutch cover from a yz125 on my ty175. With the yz125 cover, oil starts running out of the overflow hole at about 500ml (even after distributing the new oil around the crankcase). The fill hole is in a different location and there is no dipstick with the yz125 cover. Instead, it has an overflow hole located near the front of the case and below the primary gear on the crankshaft. Looking at the dipstick on the ty175 clutch cover, it appears the oil level should be at about the top of the kickstarter shaft. I have heard that a common trick for making the clutch easier on the hand is to put on a clutch extension on the arm that's down on the motor. Does anybody know where to get those or how to make one? Thanks

hello esteemed and revered trials friends, i really hope i'm not outstaying my welcome here and asking too many questions but was wondering if one of you super knowlegable vtg TY trialers would be able to offer me some advice on how to tell if i would need new rear shocks? ive heard/read the ty250a can be greatly improved by new shocks, but are the ones i have on the bike ok?- or is it a given that they are 43 years old they should be replaced esp if i will use the bike on the road? pls see pic as hopefully that is a better indicator of condition. they seem to be ok but i am no expert. also (sorry!), with regards the front suspension, when i brake and the forks comp…

TY350 MONO FRAME QUESTIONS I've had this TY350 mono (I am in US) for 15+ years. I rode it quite long as the kids got the modern stuff, but it has been parked about 5 years. I want to get it going for a 'reunion trials' this weekend. Beyond the usual carb, fuel, fluids, etc,, what started out as 'I should check and redo the dog bone bearings' became 'this is really thick dirty greasy and needs cleaning' became 'I found a frame break under the gunk' became 'I may as well lower the foot peg mounts while I have the engine out.' Hi guys, I'm just getting my TY250S (#53Y model) head machined (faced & squish band modified) & am getting the barrel rebored to suit a new Pinky piston & have been advised that it's going to need a bit of an increase in jet sizes when I get it all back together. The original TK carb (28mm) has a 110 main jet and a 48 pilot jet which is different to anything I've read about (this bike has been in our family since new & has never had jetting changed) The bike still has the original flat airbox lid with the 'snorkel' fitted which I believe will also need modifying so it can breathe better. Hi All. I have a yamaha TY175 fairly local to me, which from pictures looks fairly tidy.. I want a bike i can use and not worry too much about cosmetic condition but don't want a rat. The bike in question hasn't been used for 10 years. The seller started it up today and said it is running really well. Now if it hasn't been used for a long time i heard that the engine seals harden and although it may run ok for a few weeks it more than likely going to be a problem in the not too distant future. Hi guys, I'm looking at doing a rebuild on a 1984 TY250S (serial #53Y - red frame/steel tank/fat seat model) which my father in law has had since new with a view to getting back into trials next season. Back in the '80s there were quite a few of us riding these bikes in Western Australia but they've pretty much all disappeared now. Due to a lack of aftermarket parts (& knowledge) back then we all rode them pretty much standard & just put up with the rattling & clanging noises the motors made. hello friends, new here and just got 74 TY. bit of a novice mechanic but feeling more confident as i progress. received some great advice from 'feetupfun' about changing clutch camshaft oil seal which i did today and awesome result. no more leak! thanks so much pal! my next quest is getting it legal for the road in NYC. it already has a title and is registered in NY so its just the inspection/MOT. when i got it, the front headlight didn't have a bulb though the rear tail light worked and the stop light worked fine also. Yesterday I took my B model out to make the final prep for today's friendly competition. I could not crank it, jerk it front and back it did not seem to be stuck, so I tought that the crank was the problem. After all it did start great about 3 weeks ago when I changed the transmission oil. After removing the side cover, everything looked ok, and I could not find the cause of my problem, took the clutch out, all the separate gear where free appart from the one on the end of the crankshaft. Could anyone help me out with swing arm shim dimensions please? Mine are missing, little wonder there was so much play. The bushes seem fine and well greased luckily. I was hoping the local engineering shop might have shims to suit.

Hi chaps, I've been told the later twin shock TYs have lighter engines than the A model. I have read a thread about the crank assembly being lighter but balanced out with a heavier flywheel weight. The spec sheets I've seen state that overall weight is the same for all the twin shock TYs (93kg) so would lead me to believe the engines are exactly the same weight. Anyone had them on the scales?

.Hi All. I'm think I am going to purchase this bike...Link Below...I am wanting a TY250 mono and thought this was good value. The tank decals are wrong but I've also noticed seat looks smaller than normal and also some of the engine bits like grey cover and silver bit up the top of engine looks different to all the bikes I've seen on google. I've been told it is an 86 which is want i want and was going to change the tank decals but now I'm not so sure if this an 86 or if a lot of the parts are wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Hi everyone, new to forum, recently purchased 78 ty250 has a stubborn sticking clutch. Every time I ride it, it takes like 5 or 10 minutes for clutch to free up, than works fine. Any advice on fixing other than disassembly? Thanks in advance, dave from southern Ontario.

I am finally getting to the front forks and am needing some information on what's available out there. Is there a source for new springs for the 175 Forks, I am guessing after 41 years that the old ones are probably pretty well used up. Also the manual says to use 10W30 motor oil in the forks? Is it better to use the modern fork oils in 10W. I weigh about 180 Lbs and ride Novice class.

Doex anyone make weld on parts to relocate the upper shock mounts on TY175? I can make or buy plates to extend the swingarm easily, but the top looks like making four plates and a tube through it, so I am curious if I can buy premade and just MIG onto the tubing of frame.

Anyone with experience with the aftermarket (assuming china copy) petcocks on ebay for $8 to $10? I have lapped my lever portion, but still corroded and I don't think replacing the rubber part (at $12) will solve it. -Do they fit? -do they leak after an hour? -It looks like the lever positions are different.I could live with that thks., kcj
