Yamaha ty175 Just had full engine rebuild but can't get it to spark. Coil / plug works as tried on another bike and has seperate earth wire from coil to engine, so it's got good earth. Points open, condensor is new. Flywheel is magnetic, new woodruff key How can I test generator/ ignition coil. When I use multimeter from black wire to earth I get 1.6ohms . Getting same on a spare unknown ty windings.

Hello everyone, I'm hoping someone can do me a big favor and provide me with the measurements for stock 1975 spokes, front and rear. I have the original 16" and 14" wheels as well as the original 32 spoke hubs. I do not have any of the original spokes. I ordered aftermarket spokes which measure 137mm and 172mm and cannot make them work after many attempts. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  3. Hey all, Hoping I can get some replies here! I’ve have a ‘74 TY250 for about a year. Took it out for a single ride other than up and down the road and around the property (moo), it was so much fun. Can’t wait for the upcoming season. two questions: 1. i purchased it for $1300. It came with an entire other bike’s worth of parts. Wheels and tires, gas tank, etc. All except the engine that was destroyed when it got wrapped around a tree. What’re your thoughts on that price for the bike and parts? I thought it was a steal. 2. I get voltage spikes on throttle and keep blowing bulbs. I replaced the condenser, contact breaker, and spark plug today and the th…

Is the 52500 marked clutch cover the only one that will fit a TY175? I found that the same gasket fits a RT100 so bought one off of Ebay but it is about 10 mm wider. It is also 10 mm wider at the kick shaft area so would at least require a longer kick shaft. https://ibb.co/f2vnmJ6

As purchased, my TY175 clutch worked OK but had a some drag and was abrupt compared to a modern bike when released even with a lever arm extension. At some point in time there was a lot more drag and it became more abrupt. It would even stick when riding such that when you pull in the clutch and there was a delay before disengagement even when hot. I sanded the steel plates but I forgot which roughness of paper used. I filed the clutch baskets mostly flat but not totally flat. I also removed some burrs found on the ears of the fiber plates. All plates looked flat. It was improved and maybe similar to when I purchased the bike but after a small number of rides is b…

hello friends, sorry to be a nuisance but was hoping if someone would confirm that the original gearing on a '74 ty250A is 14/53....i often see it said 13/53 was the original gearing? the bike has 12/53 on it now. my question is, if i put a 14 on the front how many link chain would i need..is it 110 or 114? would the bike then suck at trials tho? seeing as im going through the hassle of getting it road legal be good to keep up with traffic! many many thanks from an mechanically ignorant green horn in NYC!

  11. What other Yamaha dirt bike fork tubes (not stanchions) are identical to the TY250A? I was thinking 74'/75' DT250 might be the same? I would like to replace one of my fork tubes and it might be easier to source other Yamaha dirt bike tubes. Glenn

Has anyone taken a 125 out to a 175 or a similar size? Or what is the max you can out of the standard 125 barrel. I was hoping to locate a 175 barrel and head, seems a fairly rare thing nowadays!

My TY175 frame could do with a quick refresh. Has anyone used smooth silver hammerite spray. And if so, did it wear well - especially where boots rub on the sides?

Hi folks, just bought a TY175 at a fair price and I need some help to find out the bike year (roughly) and other info.. It is unregistered but all numbers are there. Couple of strange things about the bike (to my limited TY knowlege) It has chrome wheels and a different front brake plate to others I see, also a plastic generator case. The rear sprocket is HUGE with 60 (teeth?) stamped on it, After a quick internet search, the engine seems to be from a 1978 DT175MX , likely thats why it needs that big rear sprocket. Engine number begins with *2k4-then 6 digits. Dissapointed that the wrong engine is in the bike, I am positive the previous owner…

Hiya, I'm new to trials and bikes in general to be honest haha and have just bought my first bike, a Yamaha TY175 1981/1982 model to ride and remodel. It's a brilliant wee bike however, it is missing its side stand and I'm struggling to find the complete parts to replace. I seem to only be able to find the springs online. I don't suppose anyone knows of anywhere that could help or if anyone has a spare they would be willing to sell, or even if there is a worthy universal stand that anyone could suggest. Any ideas would be appreciated! I'm located in the UK, near Cambridge. Thank you! 😊

I've been lurking for a long time and have started reassembly of my ty250A. I'm trying to order parts for the rear swingarm and can't find much information using the site's search. Has anybody had success with this kit that appears to replace the stock bushings and dustcaps with needle bearings and brass endcaps? https://www.francetrialclassic.com/en/frame/4963-yamaha-ty-125-175-250-rear-arm-bushing-kit.html I originally noticed an identical kit on ebay but the description was vague and I wasn't sure if it would fit. This seems to be the only trials specific website that lists this kit, everywhere else just carries the oem style bushings and dustcaps. …

  19. Just got the new Electronic Ignition (STK-402L) from Electrex. The old Stator is removed and the instructions say that if you position the plate in the center of the screw holes the bike will run....what I want to know is, is it possible to use a degree wheel to set the timing after you find TDC, or do you need to use a strobe. Second question; how do you adjust the stator plate with the engine running when the flywheel is in front of the plate?.
