Hi all, does anybody know if ty125 or 175 mudguards will fit on a ty50, just that the prices for ty50/ty80 guards are a tad expensive(or I'm a tad tight). And that universal figment one seams a bit cheaper. Cheers Andy

Hi. I have a TY175 majesty with a WES exhaust fitted. My right leg gets mighty hot. I've heard people talking about adding a shield to the centre box but I don't think I've seen one. Can someone point me in the direction of an informative photo or provide me with details of what can be done??? Thanks

I have 1 360mm on my Yamaha TY 250 that has seized about half way on the stroke. It will compress but will not rebound. I will be rebuilding both shocks but cant seam to find the oil volume does anyone know how much volume that they hold. Cheers

Hi all, yet again Im looking for more help, I have recently purchased yet another ty50, now I have two.. I'm looking to eventually get her on the road,, I'm wondering if anybody can Shed any light on trying to find out if this one has ever been registered, the only info I have is the frame number,, 1g7-301258. Also I have not had any help what so ever from the useless Dvla,Any help will be much appreciated. Cheers Andy

First off this is not a slam against Sammy Miller Products as I have a lot of them on this bike. It is a request for help solving a problem. This bike replaces my wife's old Montesa 123. She really like the looks of a tank/seat combo so a new one was ordered for the little TY. A US vendor that sells these recommends sealing them so I used a method that worked great on the Montesa tank. The first weekend of riding the bike was great. After it sat for a week it would not run for her and I could tell the pilot was clogged. When cleaning it I found a fair amount of varnish on the slide. After the carb cleaning the bike ran fine for the rest of the day. The next day brough…

Can anyone tell me if the early aircooled mono engines are the same as the TY twinshock engines? I bought a TY250 (twinshock) with a decidedly bad motor in it, I'm trying to find a complete motor and not getting anywhere, so I thought an early mono engine may fit, anybody know? Thanks.

I bought a 1974 TY 175 about a month ago it had no spark, I have fitted electronic ignition. So the only way I get it to run is to remove plug and pour some premix in and it will run very smokey until its burnt the petrol I've poured in then stop. Does that mean its crank seals have gone and need replacing ?

Hi all I have recently go an old ty50, but some loo attic has put the wrong forks on the front running a 21" wheel from something, I'm looking to put this right or at least make it so it doesn't look stupid.. Is there any other forks and yolks and wheel that may fit as I'm struggling to find parts, poss pw80??? Any help and info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers in advance.

A few days ago I stumbled onto a post that had a great photo of an aftermarket set of wide pegs that had a built in pin for holding the peg up so the kick start would clear it. Tonight I have spent over an hour and a half trying to find that post so I could see what brand or source of those pegs were. Can any one please tell me what source of wide pegs for the TY175 has the little pin that holds the peg back? Thank you, Pat

Hi, Iv'e started restoring a Yamaha ty175 1976, this is my first bike and my first restoration project. I'm trying to restore it to its original looks to then bring to classic motorcycle shows. When starting it in the past it has kicked back at me and smashed the cluch/crankcase cover. I have repainted it and now starting to rebuild it but finding it hard to come across parts in my price range will a Yamaha DT175 kickstart and crankcase cover fit my Yamaha TY175. Just fitted one of these, this modification must be the most value for money improvement any beginner can make to a stock set up, if you haven't got one, get one. In 1st gear the bike now goes round corners instead of straight on, balance is better, climbs are easier and more controlled in 2nd and 3rd gears. If doing the job yourself, you'll most likely need a chain splitter, I had to remove a full link or the chain would have been too long. Also you may need to reduce the outside diameter of the sprocket nut captive washer, otherwise it will foul on the chain. Apart from that, it's quite straight forward and the benefits it brings are well worth it.

My old cables are a bit ratty, some kinks and cracks etc. When I squeeze the brake and clutch levers, although they do activate after a fashion; the clutch does the clutch thing and the front brake mildly suggests that it would like the front wheel to slow down some if it's not too much trouble. New brake shoes are on order, however: What I notice is, there seems to be a lot of flex and squirm on the cables as they are applied. It would seem to me that I might be loosing some application force and smoothness with all this movement being used up to pretension my ratty old cables. Back again...no sooner have you guys helped me see the light with my pressure plate, than I run into new issues with the kickstarter. I picked up a new kickstart lever and it's mounting hardware from TY Trials, as well as a new return spring. When I reassembled the unit and closed up the case all seemed well. I could push down on the lever and the starter would activate and the kickstart lever would return to its proper place...i.e. not touching the side case. After a few tentative dabs, the main shaft moved out about a half of an inch and when I pushed down on the lever it did not want to release promptly and when I gave it a couple of jiggles, it appeared to have moved …

Hi guys, I'm looking to get my 1978 ty250 ported as it's very flat at bottom end power,any recommendations where to get it ported/ rebored?

I am closing up my TY and I've run across an issue with the pressure plate. The clutch plates themselves are new and worked well when I put the bike away some 11 years ago...at least I can't remember any issues. Anyhow I was just in the process of tightening the clutch springs, washers and retaining bolts. My manual said to tighten them to 5-7 ft. lbs. I tried that and I promptly screwed all five bolts down tight. They bottomed before I could get a reading on the torque wrench. None of this seems right to me. The springs do not look like they could put up enough resistance to hold 5-7 lb. ft. The springs just do not look or feel that strong. Am I missing something? For…

Hi Guys - hoping someone has some advice please - am restoring a TY250 twinshock, 1978 and have got a new makuni carb from Alan's performance and it just will not rev out. Starts fine, but every time you open the throttle it just will not rev and makes like a 4-stroking sound. Tried moving the needle about but just cannot seem to cure it. My right side crankcase cover needs to be replaced. I've had it repaired but it still leaks at the kick starter shaft and I think that the problem is mis alignment from prior repairs. I've noticed on e-bay that these covers are cheap for the 175/125 enduros (CT/AT models)....and expensive for the TY's...How interchangeable are these covers. They look the same to me. Unfortunately when you buy something off of e-bay you don't have the option of physically comparing the pieces. If any of you have experience using alternative side case covers, please share you knowledge with me. Thanks Miguel

I am rebuilding a TY250A motor but I could not find a manual covering the bottom end. I got the transmission, crank bearings & seals etc. back together & everything seems good except I can't figure out how to reinstall the kick starter shaft. When I took it out, I rotated in counterclockwise 45 degrees & pulled it out, so I figured I could reverse the process to put it back in but that isn't working. Right now the kick starter shaft is still assembled. Do I have to disassemble it & put it in piece by piece or is there a way to put it back in without disassembling it?
