Hello, Bought a ty250 as a running bike, saw video of it running ( i live far from where it came from), had it shipped and now i can't seem to get it running. I have kicked and kicked till my foot is bruised, have had it burp and fart a bit, won't start. Tried a bit of fuel directly in the plug hole which got it turn over 3 times but not catch and go. I've spoken with the seller he says he cleaned the carb as well as put new points and condenser on prior to the video. He said he had heard of the condenser packing it in on installation which doesn't make sense as he got it to run. I'm out of ideas, anyone have any insight. PS not sure how much difference this wi…

Hi All, I am back with another question regarding the 1977 TY250 493 I am working on. I am in the process of replacing the crank seals and, I got the left hand side out with no problems, but the right hand side, the clutch side, is giving me problems. I got the crankshaft gear removed with no problems. I have to remove the clutch basket to get to the seal retainer. And I got the clutch plates removed, but I am not sure which hand thread it is on the clutch basket nut. Looking at the few threads that are exposed it looks like a left hand thread, which makes sense since the crank shaft nut was a right hand thread and these turn in the opposite direction. i want to put a set of ty forks on my tlr200 reflex. I found a set of 73 forks from a ty 250. Are these the same as 1980s forks? any good? Thanks

i found an entire clutch assembly from a 74 ty. the fellow thinks it would work in an 84. any thoughts?

Here we go again? What are your thoughts about mounting a tubeless Dunlop 803GP T tire on the rear (tube type) (twinshock DID rim??) When I ordered it- the web page said it was "tube type" but when it arrived, the words "tubeless" were moulded into the sidewall rubber. what atf oil is best for a 74 ty 250.

74 ty 250 was running great for a year then it started breaking up and when you are accellerating it wont rev up. cleaned carb cleaned points and reset timming any ideas Thanks Jim

Guys, So after getting my parts back from Millenium Technologies- new bore on Ebay cylinder and new piston- I noticed quite a bit of vibration. So today I tore it down again and weighed the new piston, pin, upper end bearing and compared those weights to the ones on the original parts. As I expected, the new piston was significantly heavier than the old original piston, even though the piston size was still the same. Old Piston 213 gm New piston 241gm a delta of 28 grams. Old pin 57 gm New pin 60 gm delta of 3 grams The remainder of the parts were too light to measure on the scales I borrowed, so I am forced to ignore those …

This might be a tough request to make, but I have a small dilemma. I have a stock 74 TY 250A and I have had everything rebuilt on the engine. But when I tried to install the piston, it touches the flywheel before the flywheel can rotate all the way around. So either I have the wrong piston or the wrong Connecting rod installed. My measurement for the piston skirt is 68.3 mm from the bottom of the lower piston ring to the bottom edge of the piston skirt. Does this seem to be about right? The piston is a genuine Yamaha, from CMS, part number 438-11631-01-96. If anyone has a loose TY 250A -1974 model piston laying around loose they can measure- it …

The mechanism that pushes the pushrod to disenguage the clutch plates isnt working right and drops a bit. Seems like it is not pushing the pushrod, there is no resistance against it, and it doesn’t return to neutral positions. Do I have to split the cases to get to it to repair it? Any thoughts on what it might be?

Me and my friend are restoring what we believe is a 74 ty250 based on the design on the gas tank but we’re having a difficult time trying to find info on the bike. What’s the name of the engine and/or do any other bikes share an engine or parts, what’s a good place for parts or info??

Can somebody share the torque specs for the flywheel nut on a 74 TY250 motor? I wasn't able to track this down online.

Hi everyone I have recently brought a ty250a to refurb and register but I think the frame has been altered as the side panel and exhaust shield doesn't quite fit properly. Is there any reason for this to be done? Are there any standard frames to change to or any help will be great. Here's a Couple of pictures to explain what I mean

Well I had a wonderful weekend of riding but about 5 minutes before loading her back on the truck I seem to have blown a crank seal. Lot of bottom end noise for awhile and now the carb won't settle on an idle - guess air is getting past the seal on the flywheel side. Will get bearings and seals this week and start in. Have never split the cases on a TY250....... please...... anything I should watch out for ...... any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Alan

Has any one re-covered a ty250 seat. I need to know if the foam has a base inside the vinyl cover to to support it. The factory parts drawing shows the padded piece as a stand alone part that bolts to the fibreglass seat fairing. Mine is not original and it feels like someone has used a piece of plywood inside.

Does anybody know where I can possibly get any of the rear seat brackets from? Thanks

I recently took apart my 74 Yamaha TY250. After putting it back together and with some help, got the motor running great, BUT, the bike will only shift into 1st and neutral. I did not spilt the cases. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
