So after some light restoration of my sons ty 80 I've bolted it all back together , gone to start it and the revs are sky high , all the setting are correct , it seems like it may have anoticed air leak or something of that description. It doesn't seem to matter what I do to the carb it does not seem to make much of a difference, the annoying thing is I didn't touch the engine or carb all I did to the bike was a light cosmetic clean up can anyone help please ?

Hi folks the laudies been riding (read crashing) around on a ty 80 borrowed from a good friend. Anyway the front wheel often appears to be pointing in a different direction from where the handlebars would suppose it should be. This being so I need a decent fork brace/mudguard stay or whatever? Anyone out there know if these are available or will I have to cobble something together? Many thanks in advance. Allan

Hi All, I have been picking up useful information from the forum for years but this is my first post. I bought a rough looking bike on Ebay a few years ago knowing that there was a majesty under all the alterations and rust. I took the head of to check if the bike was a 250 or a 320, the bore measurement was 70mm so i assumed that it was a 250. On further investigation the left side crankcase was broken so i managed to find a new replacement on Ebay. Yesterday was the first time i have been able to put the old and new crankcases together, and i noticed the opening on the old case for the cylinder sleeve is larger than the new case. Am i right in thinking that th…

Hi, i bought this bike last week for some extra parts. first i thought somebody did put some big wheels on a ty80 but when i looked closer i found out that also the frame and swingarm have some strange sizes. the frame has a 451 number so that must be a ty80 ( or am i wrong here?) but it's bigger than a normal ty80 and there is a space between the engine and the frame ( see pictures). the swingarm also looks original but it's to long!?? does anybody know if this is a standard factory frame/bike? or is the frame hand made/wasted? thanks D.

I know some bikes are OK and some aren`t on premix. My old T500 had to use the autolube as the oil was fired directly onto bearings. Is premix ok on a TY80?

Has anyone recycled their lighting coil as an ignition source coil? Reason I'm asking is the PO ran without a flywheel cover gasket and everything on the stator plate looks minging. I have a couple of lighting coils on my other TYs which are redundant and I'd like to use as a cheap fix. Thanks, Jonny.

Hi, Im wanting to modify the standard chain tensioner on my 175. Im looking to make a new bracket on the underside of the swing arm (front middle ish). Im wanting to incorporate the new style chain block with the slanted side. Reason been after every time out I seem to be straightening the arm and I need more tension on the chain at all times. Has anyone done this already and is there a standard setup I can buy from another modern bike that will work so I can just design and weld the bracket? (with a little bending of the arm maybe). Cheers Gav

Hi, My Yamaha TY80 manual states the correct gearbox oil as 10W-30. The only oil I can find locally is semi-synthetic 10W-30. Does anyone know if this will be O.K. Or do I ned to keep searching. Thank you in advance.

So this is just an update on my install and first tests of the Clubman ignition from Rex's Speed Shop. I was not sponsored, so this is on my own nickel. This kit has actually exceeded my expectations and I am very happy with the results. The install is very simple and most of the pictures are easy to understand. The first part of the install is to remove the magneto rotor with your special puller tool., swap out the old ignition back plate with the new one and bolt it down with the new hardware provided. I used a little blue Loctite on the three screws just for a little peace of mind. The new ignition plate is way less busy than the stock one as it does not have…

I just split the cases on my TY 175. Everything went smoothly except when I finally freed the crank, the right side main bearing came with it. It is stuck right up against the flywheel. So far I've come up with the following bodges: Put the crank in the freezer before re-installing it in the cases. Warm up the cases and refrigerate the crank before re-installing Use a torch on the case before re-installing. I really don't want to destroy the main bearing, it feels perfect, but I don't relish the idea of trying to pound the crank and the main bearing back together...at least not without so heat and/or refrigeration. Do you guys have any ideas??? As you all know, there…
