Does anyone know where I can find a used yellow side cover for a 74 TY 250? Or maybe someone who sells a reproduction?

Right, after musing over converting my 250 mono into a twinshock I've decided not to bother, I want to ride some of the larger twinshock rounds with my mates next year and the converted mono wouldn't do. My Gas Gas is up for sale and I've decided to look for a TY250 T/S, I've heard lots of negative things about the yam but it's about the only T/S I would like to own within my budget......what are the bikes bad points? what year is best?. Hi has anyone noticed a very nice ty80 whitehawk on evil bay.... seems too cheap, I remember when they used to sell a whitehawk kit that you added to your existing ty80 ,, they were very expensive as i seem to remember,,! i think it took the wheel size to 17" rear and 20" front,, correct me if i am wrong. where is the best place to pick up casings for a ty 250 twinshock? im not looking for new ones.

Im hoping to fit a pair of ty mono forks to my majesty does anybody know if the majesty front wheel can be used or will I need to fit the whole mono front end as at the moment Ive only got the forks

I looking to buy and restore a twinshock yamaha TY 175/250 Have found sites selling basic parts .But what about engine ,gearbox and clutch parts are they still available if so where ?Help please regards phil

I have heard that putting TY forks on a KT make a huge difference in the handling traits. I was wondering if switching the triple clamps would have a similar affect since they appear to have less offset or if the front wheel will eve line up. Anyone ever tried it???

Hi. Advice please. I’ve repaired my gear selector cover on my TY175. All back together again and now I cannot select any gears. It’s as if the selector forks inside the engine are jammed or not moving and won’t move the pinions. After much huffing and puffing I took the clutch off to see the shifter assembly on the end of the gear shaft. The hooks don’t appear to engage with the pinned drum and hence won’t move anything. I tried to rotate the pinned drum manually but it seems to be locked solid. Any ideas?

hi ive got a dilemer with my clutch what it is is that i start the bike up and then pull te clutch in and put it into gear and it pulls away without even letting the clutch out

Hi there, I've just bought a 1978 ty175 "project" to restore and eventually ride here in NZ. It's had a hard life, with many parts flogged out (swingarm bushes, wobbly gear selector shaft, stuffed chain & sprockets, wobbly steering head bearings to name a few) but a sound engine. Anyway, there's a rear sprocket for sale on here (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=148004261) that has 54 teeth, while the sprocket on the bike now has 47 teeth. Would a 54 tooth sprocket be suitable? Presumably it will simply lower all the gearing. The sprocket suits a 428 size chain. Thanks in advance of many more questions .... Ade.

Ever since my TY 175 became 205cc, I have been breaking kickstart levers frequently. Yes they are easily available but it becomes expensive having to keep buying new ones. I have experimented with different home made designs but am not happy with any of them yet. The Mini Majesty featured on page 38 of Classic Dirt Bike Issue 2 (Ted Salmon's bike) has a kickstart lever that resembles the Yamaha item but looks a bit more substantial at the knuckle end than the Yamaha item. Maybe it's just an optical illusion in this case but does anyone know of where TY175 kickstart levers of a superior design are available from? Thanks

I just did a top end rebuild on my '74 TY250 and it is running great. Wanting to make sure all of my settings are correct, I checked my original Yamaha 1974 TY250 service manual (Copyright 1974) for the spark plug gap for the NGK B-7ES. In the specs section, page 4, it says 0.4 - 0.5mm But on page 29 it provides 0.5 - 0.6mm as the plug setting. Trail & TrialsUK sells the B-7ES plug with the notation 0.3 - 0.4 mm plug gap for a points ignition, which I have. A google search did not provide me with any other sources. What say you, and what's the source of your info? Thanks

Hello Gents, I have a '74 TY250 in good running condition. I am in the process of going to pre-mix with it, and therefore removing the autolube pump. I pulled the pump today, and the pump drive shaft came out with it (see attached picture). So, it seems that all I need to do now is attach a block-off plate (I've studied this procedure, and I will be fabricating one) on the case, am I correct? Or do I necessarily need to pull off the engine side case and remove other bits, such as a gear, which was suggested in a previous posting. Not sure what gear that would be, although that member (Tony 76) had a '76 TY250, which appears to be configured diffe…

I've got a question for all you guys who've fitted after market front pipes to your Yamaha TY 250's (Majesty's or not) I see there are basically 3 variations, standard, long (where it exits goes to bike left side up then over and back to right side and short where it exists and comes up through the front framer tubes and back to middle box. What are the pro's and cons of each from a bike response / riding style perspective. Also is it a must to have the WEs mid box with either the long or short variation? Thanks
