I`ve just about finished rebuilding my cub, just need to sort the rear shocks and ignition system. I`ve 2 questions What length shocks will I need? Its currently fitted with a capacitor type ignition which seems to be working well, so should I replace it with an electric ignition? Which ignition is best? as there are 2 types, one which bolts straight in and one which needs posts machining onto the crank case. Thanks for any help.

Would someone who has fitted a Sammy Miller silent block conversion to a Tiger Cub please explain to me how it works. It seems to consist of 2 silent block bushes that locate into the swinging arm and a spacer for the frame but what prevents side to side movement? Is the spacer an interference fit into the frame ?

Hi, I have a Bantam with Wico-Pacy-55 generator and ignition. All coils on the stator have been removed except the Ignition Coil at the top (with HT lead connected). My question is around where the (low-tension) current is generated.... - is it generated in the missing coils, that would presumably also have powered the lights - or is it generated in the Ignition Coil itself (i.e. does this coil generate the current, as well as creating a HT feed when the points open/close). The reason for asking is to understand whether I can forget the missing (lighting) coils, and just run with the Ignition Coil. Yes, I might go down the electronic ignition route at some stage, …

Hi there Apologies for what might seem like an obvious question, but I'm new to Villiers engines ! I want to change the gearbox sprocket on my 8E engine to lower first gear - first glance doesn't look as easy as it is on all the other bikes I have - just thought I would ask advice before I start cheers John

I'm now about to start building a shortstroke 500 Ariel. This afternoon I laid out all the bits I've got so far,so I can make a list of what I need.I then started looking at the 350 crank and rod I bought ages ago,it occurred to me how much of the flywheels is cut away compared to the crank in my AJS. I wonder if anyone has compared the weight of a complete shortstroke engine to the original long stroke ? Must be quite a bit lighter with an inch less of barrel aswell. Also wondering if people use the same carb with similar settings ?

I’ve just acquired a bantam D7 bottom end (everything accept a barrel piston & head) I would like to fit a D14 top end, I presume it’s a straight fit. But did the D14 have any difference to the crankshaft, crankcase volume or transfer port alignment? Basically what I want to know is, will I get the same power output as a D14?

Could anyone tell me what thread the 8 mounting bolts are for the sprocket on a Bantam/Cub hub? They are 1/4 diameter but not sure if they are BSF or cycle thread - or whether there is any difference! Thanks

I'm seeking opinion on the best options for a Matchless engine. Is there any benefit in using the older 350 bottom half of the engine? It is smaller, lighter, and the smaller flywheels may suit modern sections better. Has anyone tried this with the later shorter con rod, which should give better torque? Or is there a better option?
